Updated Illinois Power 25 Rankings

Illinois Scouting Staff

It was an eventful week across the state, with numerous conference titles being decided, plenty of strong matchups to go around, and much more. Let's take a look at yet another week of IHSA baseball and all of the noteworthy action from across the state

Brother Rice holds down the No. 1 position after a 3-1 week, with their big ticket wins coming against No. 4 at the time St. Laurence (12-2 & 6-2) to claim the Chicago Catholic Blue title.

Two new teams are making their Power 25 debuts after big weeks, and there’s plenty more to dive into.

RISING

+ No. 2 Minooka (29-3): Rising one spot, Minooka takes over the No. 2 position after a 4-0 week. They took down Oswego three times (5-3, 12-2 & 11-6), along with now ranked No. 25 Lockport 9-7.

+ No. 4 McHenry (26-4-1): The Warriors are coming off a 3-0 week, though they will be continuing a game against Prairie Ridge later today that was delayed on Friday. They already beat the Wolves 5-2 last week to clinch the Fox Valley Conference title, and they also took down Jacobs 11-6 and Marian Central Catholic 10-0.

+ No. 7 Fremd (26-1-1): With only one loss on the year, Fremd continues to look like one of the top teams in the state, and they are rising three spots to No. 7. They went 4-0 this past week with a couple dominant wins over Schaumburg (10-3, 8-1), along with wins over Elk Grove 12-0 and Naperville Central 12-5.

+ No. 9 Normal Community (29-4): The Ironmen have been one of the hottest teams in the state since the second week of the season, clawing their way back from a 2-3 record at one point to now sitting at 29-4 (27-1 in their last 28). They went a perfect 3-0 this past week with their best win coming over a strong East Peoria club 1-0 - along with two wins over Bloomington (4-2, 10-0).

+ No. 10 Edwardsville (19-8): The Tigers are looking to be back on track after sliding a bit last week, taking two from Belleville East 7-0 in both games. They have a full slate of games on their calendar this week with five games scheduled, and three of these games will be against No. 18 O’Fallon and No. 6 Triad.

+ No. 12 Providence Catholic (22-11): The Celtics look to be getting hot after a 5-0 week, and this is right about the time we usually see them start to pick things up. They took down St. Ignatius twice this past week (12-2, 11-1), along with St. Rita twice (13-8, 7-6). They capped things off with a 14-7 win over St. Patrick, and will now look ahead to playing in the DISW tournament this week.

+ No. 21 Mundelein (21-6-2): A perfect 3-0 week has Mundelein climbing up to No. 21. They took two from Waukegan in dominant fashion (16-0, 10-0), along with a quality win over Glenbrook North 14-10.

+ No. 23 Nashville (28-1): Boasting one of the more impressive records in the state, Nashville is jumping up two spots to No. 23 after a 4-0 week - taking down Waterloo 3-1, Murphysboro 5-4, Greenville 8-5 and Wesclin 16-1.

FALLING

+ No. 11 Lincoln-Way West (22-7): A 2-1 week has the Warriors falling two spots, with their lone loss coming to now No. 25 Lockport 5-1. They did see two strong wins however, taking down rival Lincoln-Way Central twice (4-3, 6-4).

+ No. 13 Lemont (24-5-1): Lemont is dropping five spots to No. 13 after a 2-2 week. They fell to Oak Forest 2-0 and Reavis 8-4, but they were able to grab a 8-5 win over Oak Forest and a 10–0 win over Romeoville.

+ No. 19 Lincoln-Way East (21-9): The Griffins went 0-2 this past week, resulting in them dropping eight spots with their two losses coming to No. 25 Lockport. They will have a chance to bounce back this week with five games on the schedule (Sandburg, Reavis, Joliet Catholic and St. Rita).

+ No. 20 St. Joseph-Ogden (31-3): The Spartans are falling five spots after finally losing a game, now sitting at 31-3 after a 2-1 week. Their lone loss came to Bishop McNamara 11-3, while their two wins came against Mt. Zion 11-0 and Mattoon 11-2.

+ No. 22 Grayslake Central (23-6): The Rams went 2-1 this past week and now find themselves down to No. 22. They took down Wauconda twice to start out their week (15-5, 10-5), but they would then go on to fall to Stevenson 6-3.

+ No. 24 Teutopolis (24-5): The Wooden Shoes are down a couple spots after going 2-1 as well, falling to Williamsville 7-4 but seeing wins over Altamont 8-0 and Richland County 13-2.
