Each week, our staff updated the Power 25 and provides key talking points from games the week prior. This week, the top team remains the same, as four new teams jump into the fold. Check out some key talking points, as well as winners and teams seeking improvement below.

Talking Points

  • Broadneck continues to roll: The Bruins now sit at 19-1 after yet another undefeated week, including a come from behind win over a talented Chesapeake team
  • Walter Johnson showcases their dominance: A program that has been on a roll as of late, WJ continues to prove that they are the team to beat across MoCo after another undefeated week that included a 7-4 victory over BCC and two blowouts over Gaithersburg and Seneca Valley.
  • Mount St. Joseph makes a statement: The Gaels pick up a huge series win over Archbishop Spalding and slide inside the top 10 at No. 6.
  • Georgetown Prep and Landon split: We finally got to see the matchup we’ve been waiting for, as Prep and Landon locked horns and split their 2 game series, as both get set for the IAC semifinals on Monday. Prep gets St. Alban’s and Landon gets Episcopal.
  • Four new teams enter the fold: Leonardtown, Northern, North Hagerstown, and La Plata all make their way back into the Top 25. Statement wins/weeks include Leonardtown over Chopticon, Northern over Huntingtown and La Plata, North Hagerstown tallies a 4-0 week, and La Plata defeated Chopticon.

Winners

  • John Carroll sweeps a tough and scrappy Archbishop Curley squad and remains right on Calvert Hall’s tail at number 2
  • Damascus turns in another 3-0 week on the year, including two dominant wins over Bethesda-Chevy Chase and Walt Whitman. The Swarmin’ Hornets are firing on all cylinders and look like the team to beat across the 3A classification.
  • Stephen Decatur tallies another undefeated week, including a walk-off winner against a scrappy and talented James M. Bennett team.
  • The Sherwood Warriors pick up an impressive 4-0 week with notable wins over Bethesda-Chevy Chase, Northwest and Quince Orchard.
  • Leonardtown jumps back into the rankings after a 3-0 week that included a win over Chopticon
  • Northern also jumps back in after an eye-opening 4-0 week with notable wins over Huntingtown and La Plata.

Seeking Improvement

  • Archbishop Spalding: The Cavaliers are on the mend after another MIAA series loss as of late, this time losing two games to Mount St. Joseph.
  • Bethesda-Chevy Chase: The Barons had a gauntlet of a week where they lose three games to Sherwood, Damascus, and Walter Johnson
  • Chopticon: The Braves go winless last week and fall out of the Top 25 for the first time since week 3.
