Prep Baseball Report

2025 Prep Baseball Georgia All Underclass Team

Ian Smith
Assistant Scouting Director

We’re back with year two of the All-Underclass and All-Upperclass here in the Peach State.

It’s been my second full spring in the state and the understanding of the overall landscape has grown tremendously over the last two years. There’s real talent in every corner of the state and we try to cover as much of it as possible. Over 250+ games attended so far this spring from our staff.

With that being said, building these postseason teams takes careful consideration of both the “eye-test”, which will forever be a vital part of scouting evaluation alongside the stats and data that also play a large role in the overall profile.

Today we start with the All-Underclass team that features 15 of the top freshman and sophomores in the state, with some more names mentioned in the “Next Man Up” category alluding to some of the depth in Georgia as a whole.

*Stats as of 4/26*

Catcher

Caden Borcherding, 2027, Etowah

Key Stats: .287 AVG, 4 HR, 4 2B, 28 RBI

One of the few two-time members of this All-Underclass squad, Borcherding made some big strides in the power department this spring and continues to build one of the best all-around profiles in the class. Defensively, Borcherding has had to handle premium pitching on a nightly basis the past two years and has sharpened the catch and receive skills to among the best in any class in the state. Bullish on the hit tool matching the budding power potential and there might not be a box that Borch won’t be checking in the profile.

Next Man Up: Beau Bruns, 2027, Cherokee Bluff; Daniel Biondo, 2027, Denmark; Gavin Greene, 2028, Blessed Trinity

Corner Infield

Bryce Fontenot, 1B/RHP, Cherokee Bluff

Key Stats: .381 AVG, 41 RBI, 13 HR, 6 2B, 20/13 BB:K

What Fontenot has done in his first full-season in the lineup has been nothing short of impressive. An outlandish 13 HR for the first baseman with three multi-yabo games for the Bears. The right-handed swing from Fontenot works short to long with ultra-strong hands/wrists and present bat speed that allows for all-fields power fairly easily. It’s not all or nothing at the plate either as the sophomore shows a keen eye for the zone as shown by the BB:K ratio and willingness to work backside. One of the biggest breakout campaigns we saw across the state this spring, and still have plenty till we see the ceiling.

Colin Anderson, 3B, 2028, Etowah

Key Stats: .440 AVG, 44 RBI (School Record), 7 HR, 11 2B, 12/12 BB:K

There’s not much more I can say about the freshman year that Anderson has had. Stepping into one of the best lineups in the state as a fresh 15 year old, and producing record numbers for the Eagles while growing every facet of his game. The power potential is immense for the infielder with 20 XBH this spring including 7 HR and much more to come but the hit tool is showing signs of an above-average floor already. Patience to work deep counts while showing real development to hit spin as the fastball usage during at-bats dwindled. Long-term home on the left-side of the dirt for Anderson as well with quick improving action and present arm strength that already plays from multiple. This is what it looks like, and has a top-of-the-class ceiling.

Next Man Up: Thomas Davis, 3B, 2028, North Hall; Luke Winbush, 3B, 2027, Pope

Middle Infield

Lio Garcia, SS, 2028, Buford

Key Stats: .426 AVG, 31 R, HR, 7 2B, 22 RBI

When you walk into your freshman spring with the swag and poise of an upperclassman, Garcia can catch your attention quickly and backs it up with elite production on both sides of the ball. There’s a blend of advanced bat-to-ball and sneaky power potential that point to an impressive hit/power ceiling. Bat speed is presently plus and still some room to grow in the 5-foot-11 frame. At short, Garcia already proves to be a vocal leader backed by one of the best gloves in the class and a true carrying tool that has plus potential down the line. Already highly-rated in the class but Garcia shows room for significant projection.

Isaiah Galason, MIF, 2027*, Houston County

Key Stats: .482 AVG, 4 HR, 8 2B, 5 3B, 52 RBI, 28 SB, 1:1 BB:K ratio

Galason has played like a man possessed this spring as HoCo has been one of the best teams in the state. The confidence that Zay brings into every at-bat is obvious with advanced pitch recognition showing and the ability to hunt mistake pitches in any count. Filled up the stat sheet in literally every category while batting in the heart of the order for a senior-led squad and finding hard-hit contact consistently. Quality defender at the keystone with ability to play across the infield at a high-level due to great footwork and above-average arm. Galason has an asterisk on his phone cause the sophomore will be reclassifying into the 2026 class post-summer but still earns the nod after an outstanding spring.

Zach Koons, SS, 2028, Greater Atlanta Christian

Key Stats: .385 AVG, 4 2B, 22 R; 1.000 fielding percentage

Replacing an MLB Draft pick at SS as a freshman is no easy task, but Koons has been up to the challenge all spring long. Starting at the 6 from opening day and the glove has been ready since day one while posting a perfect fielding percentage in the regular season. The ability to bend with soft hands and excellent transfers allows for Koons to make plays on the move look effortless. Bat-to-ball is already present and will grow into more pop as the lean frame fills out.

Next Man Up: Ryan Johansen, 2027, Buford; Myles Tate, 2028, Woodward Academy

Outfield

Caden Dawson, 2027, Blessed Trinity

Key Stats: .304 AVG, 3 HR, 5 2B, 3B, 27 R, 17 SB, 26/14 BB:K

The polish at the plate for the top player in Georgia’s 2027 class cannot be understated. Dawson demonstrates immense plate discipline and a keen eye that allows the outfielder to do damage throughout the zone. Dawson has one of the highest hit/power ceilings in the class and will carry the profile forever. An aggressive player both in the outfield and on the base paths as well where the sophomore made big strides in both facets this spring. 2x All-Underclass member.

Brady Little, 2027, Gordon Lee

Key Stats: .450 AVG, 9 2B, 4 3B, HR, 28 RBI, 32 R, 19 SB

Starting with an impressive showing back in January at Preseason All-State, you knew there was a chance Little could breakout this spring and did so in tremendous fashion. The former junior future gamer is a sparkplug at the top of the lineup and absolutely filled the stat sheet up in nearly every category. Compact LH swing allows Little to work short to it with obvious bat-to-ball and sneaky pull-side juice for the 5-foot-8 frame.

Jake Brannon, 2027, Fellowship Christian

Key Stats: .382 AVG, 11 2B, 3 HR, 32 RBI, 12 SB, 14/13 BB:K

Another former junior future gamer and second year in a row with an All-Underclass member from Fellowship Christian. The potent left-handed cut that Brannon possesses shows present hand/bat speed and screams significant power potential down the line. Led the Paladins in nearly every offensive category this spring and just scratching the surface on what kind of impact he can have. Long-term home in a corner outfield spot with present arm strength and good routes to round out the power profile.

Austin Tamborra, 2027, North Cobb Christian

Key Stats: .412 AVG, 7 HR, 12 2B, 3B, 32 RBI, 13 SB, 22/15 BB:K

Tamborra got his season rolling with a big showing at Georgia Dugout Club, and then proceeded to carry that into an outstanding all-around sophomore season. Tools litter the profile with a high-celiling on the hit/power combo and flashes a present above-average run tool already. Bat is through the zone in a hurry with present bat speed as he also stays on-plane extremely well in a compact path. There's some similarites in the profile to one of the top seniors in this year's class in John Stuetzer and could bode extremely well for his future.

Next Man Up: Caleb Hudson, 2027, Carrollton, Will Dimitri, 2028, Harris County, Makayle Moon, 2027, East Forsyth

Pitchers

Hayes Maginnis, RHP/SS, 2027, Newnan

Key Stats: 31 IP, 0.67 ERA, 15 BB, 55 K, 1.09 WHIP; .400 AVG, 3 HR, 12 2B, 16 SB

Maginnis developing into a soon-to-be frontline starter this spring has been eye-opening as well as vital in the impressive spring that Newnan has put together so far. Fastball has made big strides, living 89-92, touching 93 in multiple outings with consistent carry and feel to land anywhere in the zone. Pairs the fastball with a true power curveball at 75-78 that creates whiff-inducing depth from a 12/6 shape and flashes as an above-average offering. Changeup grew in lengths this spring as well with feel and ability to land for strikes often in the low-80s. Another reason the stuff has ticked up so much this spring is the confidence that Maginnis pitches with, and always wants the ball.

Grant Barden, RHP, 2027, East Forsyth

Key Stats: 42.2 IP, 1.49 ERA, 63 K, 1.11 WHIP, 13.4 K/7

A consistent performer every time we’ve seen him, but the progression that Barden made this spring matched with the eye-opening results have earned him a spot here. Armed with a compact, repeatable arm action, the RHP shows big-time arm speed paired with a swing-and-miss combo in the fastball/curve combo. Up to 91 while sitting 87-90 in every outing while generating some ride that plays well in the top half of the zone consistently. Curveball is a future hammer at 74-76 that Barden can land for strikes and in-zone misses seemingly whenever he wants.

Carter Allen, RHP, 2027, Bremen

Key Stats: 42 IP, 3.17 ERA, 61 K, 1 HR allowed

The former Junior Future Gamer has sprouted up to a lean, high-waisted 6-foot-1 frame that shows immense projectability and fits "what it looks like" to a tee. Fastball lived in the upper-80s throughtout the spring with legit hop out of the hand and much more to come as he fills out physically. Flashed two distinct breaking balls with a 12/6 curveball at 76-78 and low-80s slider that generates late sweep to miss bats. Distinct shape with both pitches and budding feel to land for strikes. This is a name that needs to be on your radar and could take another huge step this upcoming summer.

Two-way

Andrew Brech, RHP/SS, 2027, Mountain View

Key Stats: 51.1 IP, 0.27 ERA, 0.68 WHIP, 76 K; .326 AVG, 3 HR, 6 2B, 18 RBI

I'm truly not sure how you allow just TWO earned runs across 50+ innings of 6A baseball, but thats precisely what Andrew Brech did this spring while punching out 76 in the process. The fastball for the talented sophomore is a future plus pitch at 88-91 presently with 'invisiball' traits as its hard to pick up out of the hand with high-spin ride through the zone that freezes batters from both sides of the plate. Slider feel is advanced in the high-70s with ability to land for strikes at will while adding and subtracting sweep at will. Brech will mix in the changeup as well at 82-84 with good arm-side fade that flashes as quality third offering. Everyday SS when not the mound, Brech shows good range in the dirt with obvious arm strength from multiple angles. Offensively, simple actions at the plate allow Brech to find the barrel regularly and has some sneaky pop to the pull-side.

Chubb Jones Jr., RHP/OF, 2027, McEachern

Key Stats: 36.0 IP, 1.36 ERA, 0.97 WHIP, 52 K; .338 AVG, 4 HR, 27 RBI, 1.101 OPS

The Chubb Jones Jr. show has been a sight to see so far in 2025. After showing some impressive, yet raw arm talent last spring, Jones walked off the hardwood this spring and instantly showed possibly the best pure stuff in the state, regardless of class. The high-octane RHP boasts elite arm speed and whip while running it up to 97 this spring and settling into the mid-90s in almost every outing. Slider is quick-developing into a bonafide weapon at 78-81 with huge horizontal that will creates some ugly swing-and-miss. Curveball and cutter have been shown as well, but the low-80s splitter has an above-average ceiling with disappearing action that plays off the fastball extremely well. Jones has legit pop at the plate as well with some real growth in the hit tool this spring as well.

Utility

Liam Collier, 1B/LHP, 2027, Locust Grove

Key Stats: .559 AVG, 7 2B, 19 RBI, 27 R, 14/4 BB:K; 35.1 IP, 2.17 ERA, 41 K

Pound-for-pound, Collier could have one of the most pure hit tools in all of Georgia’s 2027 class. The sophomore has hit north of .500 for the past two years while running a better than 2:1 BB:K ratio over that time. Simple triggers from the left-side with ability to match plane throughout the zone and advanced barrel accuracy to use the whole field with ease. Still plenty of power to project in the frame and can take the batted-ball profile to another level. Collier would bring high-level pitchability into the rotation as well while developing into the game one starter towards the end of the season.
