2025 GHSA Playoffs: Round 1 - 3A-1A Recap

The 2025 GHSA State Playoffs kicked off last week. Playoff baseball in Georgia is some of the best baseball in the entire country and we are lucky enough to get to cover it. We have covered the state of Georgia from as south as Lowndes to as north as Gordon Lee and everything in between. Our staff has watched over 200 baseball games this year and can’t wait to cover playoff baseball.

Here we are going to do a quick recap of round 1 with some in depth breakdowns of games our scouts were in attendance for.

3A

Top Left of Bracket
Harlem, the top seed in the bracket gets 2 quick wins over Mt, Zion (Jones) in 2 games, 15-0 and 13-0. Will Holder tossed 5 innings of shutout ball with 13 strikeouts on 45 pitches. Whitewater beats Long County in 2 games, 8-0 and 8-3 led by Trent Ellington at the dish, going 6 for 9 with 9 RBI.. LaGrange's offense exploded vs Gilmer with scores of 12-0 and 11-1 behind senior Rob Skinner going 3 for 6 with 4 RBI. Pickens did more of the same over Dougherty in 2 games, 16-1 and 12-1. Jennings Allen went 4 for 5 with 8 RBI for the Dragons. This will be one of the bigger match ups in 3A between LaGrange and Pickens.

Bottom Left of Bracket
Oconee County tossed 2 shutouts against Cairo in 2 games by scores of 5-0 and 5-0. Jefferson and West Laurens go 3 games, and Jefferson edges them out with 1 run victories in games 1 and 3 with scores of 11-10 and 4-3. Dawson County drops game 1 to SE Bulloch but bounces back with 2 wins 13-1 and 10-0. Troup County took care of Stephen with scores of 15-0 and 14-0, led by sophomore Davis Moncus. He went 4 for 6 at the plate and tossed 3 scoreless innings. This is going to be one of the more competitive sides of the bracket. This is 4 really similar teams that play well together and know how to produce runs. Both of the Sweet 16 games are going to come down to the pitching.

Top Right of Bracket
There were 4 2 game sweeps in this side of the bracket. North Hall kicked things off with wins over Richmond Academy 5-0 and 12-0 behind Branson Crawford’s performance on the mound and at the dish. Heritage took down Riverdale by scores of 12-0 and 4-1. Cherokee Bluff and Lumpkin County had a tight game 1 where Bluff won 3-2. The offense was able to get rolling in game 2 with a score of 9-3 after a big swing with the bases loaded by KT Thompson. Bubba Coleman had a strong DH and will need to keep that going in the sweet 16. NW Whitfield took down Islands with scores of 10-9 and 10-1.

Bottom Right of Bracket
There was more of the same in the final bracket of 3A. 2 game sweeps all around with Upson Lee taking down Luella as the lower seed with scores of 12-3 and 7-0. Mary Person tossed 2 shutouts against Adairsville with the offense scoring 7 runs in game 1 and 10 in game 2. Gavin Barr led the way with 2 home runs and 5 RBI’s. Bainbridge vs Calhoun was a match up we had our eyes on and Bainbridge comes up with the big wins by scores of 9-3 and 4-0 behind Parker Landrum’s complete game shutout. Finally, one of the 3A favorites, Peach County took down West Hall 8-1 and 13-3. Jackson Peavy had a typical outing with 14 strikeouts in 7 innings.

2A

Top Left of Bracket
The top seed in 2A showed why to open the bracket with Morgan County putting up a staggering 38 runs in two games as they took down Butler 19-0 back-to-back. Hard-fought three game series between Ringgold and Jackson with the Tigers escaping 5-4 in GM 3 thanks to a big day from Logan Moore with 2 RBI. After two close games to open the series, Hart County exploded for 18 runs in GM 3 behind an 11-run 6th inning to upset Thomson and move to the Sweet 16. Big offensive performances from Braye Brown and Nathan Nance helped lead Appling County to a first round sweep of Therrell, 18-3 and 15-0.


Bottom Left of Bracket
Burke County opened this quad with a bang, earning a loud series sweep over Josey to the tune of 16-0 and 13-0. Franklin County would get big GM 3 performances from Ty Peeples and Hudson Huff to advance after a tough series with East Jackson. After Union County would take GM 1 9-3, Stephens County would bounce back with two straight shutouts, 1-0, 10-0 to avoid the first round upset. The Matt Evans show (7-for-8, HR, 4 2B, 5 RBI, 8 R, 11 SB!) would lead Redan to a convincing first round sweep over Rutland.


Top Right of Bracket
Pierce County opens the quad with a series sweep over South Atlanta behind a huge offensive team showing. Cook would follow with another sweep, taking down Hardaway to the tune of 3-1 and 10-2. The trend continued with Crisp County earning the upset and taking the series over Shaw in two games. Columbus and Sonoraville would be a highly-competitive three games series to close the quad with the Blue Devils surviving in GM 3 thanks to some timely hitting from the entire lineup.


Bottom Right of Bracket
Callaway would avoid a first round upset over Coahulla Creek in three games thanks to some quality hitting from 7-8-9 hitters as they produced 5 hits and 2 RBI in a 3-2 victory. Drew Charter picked up the first round sweep with wins of 9-1 and 5-2 over Jordan and sets up a quality matchup in the Sweet 16 with Callaway. Led by the offense of Sawyer Selman and perfect game from Luke Spraggins, Pike County looked outstanding in a round one sweep over Hapeville. The 2nd overall seed in the class closes out the bracket in dominating fashion with Rockmart sweeping Salem to the tune of 15-0 and 19-0.

Private

Top Left of Bracket
Christian Heritage advances past Aquinas in a 2-game series with 11-2 and 10-3 victories. Hungry for a repeat of last year, North Cobb Christian would look strong in the first round with a 2-game series sweep of Athens Academy (11-0, 5-2). Holy Innocents produced a staggering 30 runs in a 2-game series against Savannah Country Day to cruise into the 2nd RD.

Bottom Left of Bracket
Providence Christian would shutout Galloway in the series with 5-0 and 14-0 victories. Kings ridge exploded on offense and cruised to 11-1 and 12-2 wins backed by big offensive performances from Chip Glogorski and Lee Holt. Whitefield Academy advances past Paideia in a 2-game series behind a big-time pitching performance from Peyton Robidoux (CG, 7.0 IP, 1 H). Calvary Day produced 24 runs against Mt. Pisgah in a 2-game series to move on to the 2nd RD.

Top Right of Bracket
Trinity Christian came up with 4-1 and 3-2 wins over Landmark Christian. Backed by a big pitching performance from Dillon Stiltner (CG, 7.0 IP, 8 K, 1 ER). After a GM1 loss, Walker would defeat Fellowship, 7-6 and 7-2 in the next two games to advance to the 2nd RD.

Bottom Right of Bracket
Savannah Christian would explode on offense to produce a staggering 32-runs and move past St. Francis in a 2-game series. Dropping GM1, Mt. Vernon would come back and take games 2 and 3. Backed by solid performances throughout the lineup. Greater Atlanta Christian would make quick work of Darlington in a 2-game series with 11-1 and 8-0 victories.

1A-I

Top Left of Bracket
Gordon Lee would face a scare in game 1 with a 2-1 loss, but bounced back with 5-3 and 11-0 wins over Brantley County. They are the favorite headed into the sweet 16 as the 1 seed and take on ACE Charter who went 3 games with Elbert County. They won the deciding game 3 by a score of 8-7. Banks County and Bacon County also went the full 3 games. Banks would just edge them out in the final game with a score of 8-1. Washington County is a team we have our eye on, led by Auburn commit, Ty Mobley. They took the sweep over Putnam County by scores of 7-1 and 8-1.

Bottom Left of Bracket
In the 1st section of this bracket we see a couple sweeps by Toombs County and Haralson County. Toombs took down Chatooga with scores of 8-1 and 4-0. Haralson County defeated Jasper County 12-1 and 2-0. Vidalia put up 30 runs in 3 games vs Swainsboro. They are led by guys like Veer Patel and Cayden Ridge Nance and stack up well vs Social Circle. They would clinch the deciding game 3 with a score of 17-5. Social Circle has the experience to make a run in this classification. They took care of Berrien 10-0 and 7-1.

Top Right of Bracket
The biggest match up of the whole bracket is taking place in the sweet 16 between Pepperell and Bremen. Pepperell lost game 1 to Thomasville 2-1 but bounced back with big wins 13-0 and 12-2. We were in attendance for Bremen vs Rabun County and the pitching duel in game 2 did not disappoint. Carter Allen and freshman Chase Alonso went back and forth for 5 innings until rain caused a delay for a couple hours. Bremen would overcome the 1-0 deficit after the delay and get the sweep over Rabun County. Fitzgerald and Lamar County went 3 games where Fitzgerald got the final say in game 3 12-2. The Bleckley offense exploded behind Walker Boatright with scores of 11-1 and 14-1 over East Laurens.

Bottom Right of Bracket
In this final bracket we see some of the biggest sweet 16 match ups. There were 2 game sweeps across the board. Model beat Heard County 12-2 and 11-3. Fannin County had a big offensive DH with scores of 13-0 and 13-2. Worth County is a team that made a run last season and will be a threat for Jeff David behind arms like Avery Kilcrease. They beat Dublin 10-0 and 16-2. Finally the 2 seed, Jeff Davis took down Dodge County 11-1 and 5-1. They are a favorite in this bracket and will be the home team vs Worth Counth.

1A-II

Top Left of Bracket
Irwin County takes the series over Towns County 13-0 and 6-5. Baconton shuts out Glascock County with scores of 12-0 and 12-0. Mt. Zion and Schley County go the full 3 games and Schley punches their ticket with a game 3 score of 9-1. Wilcox County sweeps Bryan County 4-2 and 14-6.

Bottom Left of Bracket
Charlton County has an impressive offensive showing in a sweep over Lincoln County, 11-1, 15-2. Johnson County and Pelham go the full three games, with Pelham earning a big upset as a four seed with 7-4 GM 3 win. Trion with an impressive series sweep over Taylor County, 2-0, 15-2. ECI takes the series in two over Truetlen, 9-6, 7-2

Top Right of Bracket
Metter shows a big offense in a series sweep over Wheeler County, 9-3, 16-2. Crawford County explodes for 35 runs over 2 games while shutting out Manchester to take the series convincingly, 15-0, 20-0. Seminole County shuts out GSIC 4-0 in back-to-back games to advance to the Sweet 16. Lanier County sweeps Washington-Wilkes, 6-0, 10-0

Bottom Right of Bracket
Highly-contested three game series with Screven County earning the upset over Hawkinsville, 4-7, 9-3, 17-11. Bowdon with a convincing series sweep over Marion County, 11-1, 11-1. An offensive explosion for MIller County in a series sweep over Georgia Military Academy, 15-2, 15-4. Big-time pitching throughout in a three game series to close the bracket with Lake Oconee Academy coming out on top with 3-2 in GM 3 over Clinch County.
