Last weekend was the third annual Commonwealth Classic held on Saturday, April 12th and Monday, April 14th, at multiple locations in the Richmond area.
Today we would like to announce our All-Tournament 1st Team. Twelve players from some of the different teams that participated in the 3rd Annual Commonwealth Classic.
Pitchers
![]() |
Hayden Reed OF / LHP / ABINGDON HIGH, VA / 2027Competitor, energy, emotion, grit. These are all words to describe the outing from this Virginia Tech commit. While it was a struggle early on with command, Reed did it when it counted. He made big pitch after big pitch in high leverage situations. This began in the first inning and went all the way through his final inning in the sixth. Working mostly off of a mid 80's fastball, Reed was up to 87 in the first and was still grabbing an occasional 87 through the remainder of the outing. Reed contributed eleven strikeouts over the course of his outing.

Kaden Zimorowicz SS / RHP / Gainesville High School, VA / 2027If the new face to the Gainesville had not already made a mark on this team, he has now. Zimorowicz was up to 89 early on and was burying a depth low 80's slider. The fastball was getting chases up and those two pitches together gave hitters fits over the course of his five inning outing. The uncommitted right hander struck out twelve , allowed four hits, walked three, and like Reed, he did not give up a run. It is an electric arm that has a chance for more velo in his future.

Catcher

Joseph Conner C / 3B / St. Christopher's School, VA / 2025Conner was a standout behind the plate, carrying, by far, the best batting average amongst the catchers in this tournament. His .500 batting average came from a four for eight performance for the Saints. Conner drove in three, walked a few times, and had a big double on Monday. While he did reach base numerous times, he does not get credited for any runs scored due to courtesy runners being used to replace him. Conner also caught all three games for the Saints.

First Base

Walter Clevenger RHP / 1B / PRINCESS ANNE HIGH, VA / 2025While Clevenger is more than likely making his way to Lynchburg as an arm, he had some very big swings throughout the course of the tournament. He had an absolute no doubter in the Cavs' game on Monday, as well as a pinch hit triple in their first game that would bring them within one. While it was limited AB's over the course of the tournament, Clevenger did go three for six with three RBI and two runs scored.

Infield
Gavin Genovese 3B / C / Gainesville, VA / 2026Genovese absolutely locked down third base during the course of this tournament. He made play after play at third. In addition to his flaunting some flashy leather, Genovese managed to hit .444 over the course of the three game tournament. Saturday, the Gainesville third baseman was red hot at the plate, going four for six with a double and triple (both XBH's came in the semifinal game). He is an uncommitted player that has made some enormous strides in the last year and a half.

William Hurt SS / C / St. Christopher's, VA / 2025Hurt was another red hot hitter on Saturday, going four for six over their two game stretch. He started off with a backside single and never slowed up the rest of the day. In addition to setting the tone for the offense, the Virginia Tech commit played a solid shortstop for the Saints. The senior infielder hit .444 for the tournament, which also is currently his season batting average.
Aidan McKeating SS / 3B / PRINCESS ANNE HIGH, VA / 2026McKeating continued his trend as one of the hottest hitters in the state since the fall season. The GW commit also hit .444 for the tournament. In addition to his .400+ batting average, McKeating had two extra base hits, including a huge homerun in the semifinal game on Saturday evening. The homerun started the scoring for the Cavs and jumpstarted the offense that would score again that inning, tightening the score. He is a catalyst for this PA offense.

Outfield

Brody Bean RHP / OF / PRINCESS ANNE HIGH, VA / 2026Speaking of red hot, Brody Bean made a name for himself over the course of this tournament. Bean very likely had the best batting average of the entire tournament, hitting .625 over this three game set. The Cavs outfielder had three doubles, two RBI, and two runs scored. He was a bat to ball machine and plays hard. Will be one to watch going forward.
Ian Fournier OF / Gainesville, VA / 2026Saturday was not Fournier's day. The junior outfielder was hitless, but he did manage to score two runs in the semifinal game. One of the best parts about baseball, there is always tomorrow, or in this case, Monday. Fournier delivered when it meant the most, in the championship game. He was three for three during Monday's nights finale and seemed like he simply could not miss. He had two doubles that night, both to the right center gap. Fournier's three hit night accounted for half of the team's offense in that victory.
Matthew Metheny OF / SS / PRINCESS ANNE HIGH, VA / 2025Like his PA counterparts, Metheny also bolstered consistent offense throughout this tournament. He hit .444 for the three game span. He had one double, three RBI, and one run scored for this Cavs offense. Virginia Wesleyan commit.

Utility
Jett Humphreys RHP / 3B / Abingdon, VA / 2025We felt it was extremely appropriate to put these last two players together in the utility section, due to their eerily similar tournament body of work. To start off, Humphreys threw a complete game shutout in their opening game. He struck out seven, allowed four hits, and walked three. Oh, and all of this is coming off of being under the weather for the entire week leading up to the tournament. I guess now it is the "Jett Flu Game". In the semifinal game immediately following his pitching performance, Humphreys went three for three with a homerun, three RBI, and two runs scored. The William & Mary commit was also one for one with two walks on Monday night, reaching base three times more than basically every other Falcons player.
Caden Merritt OF / RHP / Gainesville, VA / 2025Merritt is the straw that stirs the drink for this Gainesville team. They go as he goes. His pitching performance alone in the first game would have propelled him onto an All-Tournament team, but it was also his four for ten offensive performance over the course of the tournament that pushed him forward. In total, Merritt hit .400, hit a homerun, drove in five, scored six, threw seven shutout innings, had ten strikeouts, allowed three hits, and zero runs.
