Today, we put the spotlight on the #215 ranked player in the 2026 class who is sure to rise after this spring season in SoCal '26 C/OF/RHP Jose Borrego from Sultana High School in Hesperia, Calif..  The RH hitting C has been outstanding at the plate so far this spring as a key piece of the Sultans lineup which sits at the top of the Mojave River Leagueb Borrego has been a force posting a slash line of .413/.513/.587 while adding 11 BBs to 8 Ks with two doubles, three home runs, 23 runs scored and 12 RBIs so far in 2025. But, the two-way product has been just as strong on the bump with a starter profile on the mound posting impressive numbers as a key arm for Sultana. With 10 appearances on the spring he has tossed 39.1 innings, struck out 53 hitters while walking 17, posting a WHIP barely over 1.00 and an opponents batting average of .171. Borrego is sporting an impressive 2.14 ERA over all that work withfour wins and three saves on the year. Which backs up an outstanding 2024 Soph. campaign where he slashed .395/.504/.570 with 18 BBs to 8 Ks. He posted seven doubles, one triple, two homers, 42 runs scored and 21 RBIs at the plate. While on the mound he threw 18 innings with 23 Ks winning one game with a 1.17 ERA. In his FR. campaign Borrego posted a slash line of .385/.491/.527 with 14 BBs to 7 Ks with eight doubles, one triple, one homer, scoring 27 runs and driving in 21 runs for Sultana. Throwing 49.2 innings over 12 appearances with 36 Ks, seven wins, and a 3.10 ERA.

Borrego closed his 2024 summer with an impressive appearance at the California State Games event where he showed off his two-way ability throughout the three day event.

Borrego checked in at 5'8 with a wiry athletic frame that flashes some wiry strength to its present 160 lbs. build. He shows present strong athletic ability in his profile with a 6.94 60 time while posting 1.76 10-yard / 3.93 30-yard splits at his best with a 20.4 MPH max run speed. His athletic ability translates into his solid work behind the dish and in the OF with intriguing arm strength. Borrego clocked 90 MPH with carry on his OF throws during the state games and then showed 80 MPH arm strength behind the dish with pop times as low at 2.00.

At the plate it's a compact/direct RH swing that has a solid operation in the box. On Blast Motion the RH hitting Borrgo posted a bat speed up to 67.5 MPH while showing solid present quickness in his hand speed at 20.3 MPH with a turn that generates up to 11.5 Gs of rotational acceleration. During his California State Games batting practice session Borrego demonstrated the interesting RH hitting profile he possesses by posting a top end exit velocity at 90.6 MPH while averaging 84.9 MPH with a 323' max distance and 67% Sweet Spot rate.

Borrego's loud arm strength builds a versatile defensive profile as noted above his profile, but really ticks up with his ability on the mound showing present strike throwing ability, athleticism in the delivery with some room to continuing adding life as he matures. At the California State Games event Borrego lived at 86-89 MPH and touched 90 MPH with high-quality spin on his FB (2453 RPMs average) while adding riding life to the pitch with 22.4" of IVB on average (with 9.4" of avg. horizontal run) playing to a cut-ride FB shape.. His primary secondary is a high quality SLD which flashes two-plane life in its shape (averaged 1.1" of IVB / averaged -11.8" of horizontal break) and strong spin traits (2683 RPMs max / 2448 RPMs avg) living at 73-76 MPH. Borrego complimented his two primary offerings with a softer CB which he throws at 68-72 MPH. He throws all three offerings from a lower release height (5'2" on average for the FB / 4'8" on average for the SLD/CB), but will need to tighten those windows to not tip the offerings in the future.

With an interesting overall skill set that shows a strong foundation both as an offensive prospect and pitching prospect Borrego is a high quality name to keep eyes on from the High Desert region of California.
