Each week, our staff updated the Power 25 and provides key talking points from games the week prior. This week, the top team remain the same, as four new teams jump into the fold. Check out some key talking points, as well as winners and teams seeking improvement below.

Talking Points

  • Calvert Hall remains at No. 1: Picks up two wins over Benedictine and Albemarle but do drop a game to the No. 3 team in Virginia in Miller School. We still see the Cardinals ahead of both John Carroll and Spalding, as the Patriots drop a game in Pennsylvania and the Cavaliers drop three total games last week.
  • Walter Johnson slides up a spot to No. 6: In a jam-packed Montgomery County, the Wildcats pick up three more key wins over QO, Churchill, and Northwest and seem to be firing on all cylinders as we inch closer to playoff time.
  • Walt Whitman slides up five spots: A huge and dominant win over Bethesda-Chevy Chase sees a huge jump for the Vikings, as they finish off their week with wins over Blair and Northwood
  • Chopticon, Reservoir, and Huntingtown all move up a spot: All three teams did what they were supposed to do against struggling squads as they all finished the week undefeated
  • Anne Arundel schools continue to win: Northeast, Chesapeake and Old Mill finish off undefeated weeks and all three see a jump in the rankings

Winners

  • Broadneck continues to ride their winnings streak, now up to eight games as they sit 16-1 on the season and No. 5 overall.
  • Liberty jumps back into the fold at No. 22 after a huge week with wins over Westminster, South Carroll and Century.
  • Clear Spring jumps in for the first time this spring at No. 24. Big wins this spring over Brunswick, Williamsport twice, Catoctin, and Middletown. The Blazers have proven to be one of the top teams across the 1A classification.

Seeking Improvement

  • North Hagerstown is on the outside looking in after two losses to unranked teams last week in Oakdale and Thomas Johnson.
  • Northern dropped the first game of the week to a tough Huntingtown squad, turned around and beat a good Patuxent team before dropping their second game of the week against North Point.
