It was the rubber match between Archbishop Curley and Gilman, and this game certainly had fireworks throughout. Scoreless through three, the Friars would strike for four in the top of the fourth with three straight knocks led by a RBI double off the bat of junior Owen Rossi, a two RBI double off the bat of junior Nico Brownlee, and an RBI single off the bat of sophomore Braedon Rolland. Junior Lucas Dean would add another run for Curley in the fifth on a two out RBI infield single to push the score to 5-0. Gilman would scratch across two in the bottom of the fifth led by a bases loaded walk and an RBI groundout by junior Toby Rosenband to make the score 5-2. Things got interesting in the bottom of the sixth, as Gilman induced four consecutive walks with two outs to make the score 5-3 before two back-to-back errors on an infield pop-up and an error by the second baseman to take the lead 6-5. Junior Collin Roche would answer right back in the top of the seventh for Curley with an RBI infield single to tie the game at 6 a piece. In extras, Curley would strike for one and score on an error to take a 7-6 lead, eventually slamming the door in the bottom half to take the game and the series over Gilman.

Caleb Chesgreen LHP / OF / ARCHBISHOP CURLEY HIGH SCHOOL, MD / 2027The biggest winner on the day for me was the sophomore southpaw. Got the start for Curley on the bump and was masterful through his five innings of work, striking out five with an intriguing pitch arsenal. Possessing a long, lean 6-foot-3 frame, Chesgreen worked out of a smooth, fluid operation on the bump with some quick arm speed through release, showcasing feel for the upper 80s fastball to both sides of the plate and the ability to get whiffs at the top of the zone. The velo held throughout the outing, sitting mostly 84-87 while grabbing an 88 in the 2nd inning. The breaking ball is still developing but did show promise when down in the zone in the upper 60s and should get sharper as feel and confidence in the pitch increases. This is a highly intriguing 2027 arm to watch throughout the rest of the spring and into the summer, and look for this to be a helium guy come summer team across Maryland. |

Lucas Dean OF / LHP / Archbishop curley, MD / 2026I have been a fan of the junior outfielder for some time now, and the hit tool and athleticism continues to spark each time I get eyes on him. It’s a relaxed setup at the dish with the ability to unlock the hips and showcase pull side power while also spraying line drives to the opposite field gap. More power is certainly to come as this frame continues to fill out, and with the high contact rate and mature presence in the box, look for this hit tool to take off as we inch closer to the summer. |

Colin Roche SS / 2B / Archbishop Curley, MD / 2026This Curley lineup is littered with 2026 talent throughout the lineup, and Roche is certainly included in that bunch. Highly athletic operation at the dish with line drive tendencies to the middle with the occasional pull side pop showcased. The hands work quick with fluid actions and the bat speed generated through the zone may surprise some out of the compact frame. |

Owen Rossi 3B / RHP / ARCHBISHOP CURLEY HIGH SCHOOL, MD / 2026I really liked the operation and approach all day long from Rossi. It’s controlled with some aggression and the ability to work counts and shorten up the swing with two strikes stuck out to me. Barrel feel seems to be consistent and the approach looks to sure up the contact rate as his high school career continues. Another uncommitted 2026 to follow as we enter the summer. |

Braedon Rolland 3B / 2B / ARCHBISHOP CURLEY HIGH SCHOOL, MD / 2027Rolland was a guy that our staff really liked in the preseason, and an opportunity for me to get to see the two-way ability in game was something special. At the dish, it’s a shorter, compact swing path with controlled barrel whip through the zone that allows line drives to be sprayed to all fields. The power numbers are certainly on the climb, and as the comfortability in the box and swing decisions increase, look for this to be a 2027 hit tool to grab attention as we enter the summer. On the bump, the fastball sat 82-83, grabbing an 84 early out of the ‘pen for the Friars with strong feel for the downer curveball in the low 70s. The fastball showed feel to the glove side with some ride through that should translate to more velo in the near future. The curveball was the difference maker for me, showcasing solid depth and plenty of promise as the feel continues to increase. |

Dylan Buchalter RHP / 3B / Gilman, MD / 2025A smooth operator out of the stretch, the physical right-hander got the start for Gilman and battled his way through four innings. Gave up four runs, however none of them were earned while striking out four. The fastball sat 81-83 with some life/sink arm side, working well off the slider that played effectively away to right-handed hitters.

Jake Mohler 3B / RHP / Gilman, MD / 2025I saw Mohler earlier this spring and really liked the hit tool, and nothing was different in this one. It’s a physical build with plenty of strength to the middle of the field. The big separator for me is the consistent ability to lace line drives to all fields, especially keeping the hands in and utilizing the backside of the field. Look for power numbers to increase as the big left-hander gets more out of the lower half, and I see this as being a sneaky good hit tool as he progresses to Deerfield Academy as a post-grad. |

Jute Taylor SS / OF / GILMAN SCHOOL, MD / 2026Athletic, projectable with game-changing ability on both sides of the field, Taylor has impressed our staff all spring long and the hit tool continues to get better and stronger in each look. The consistent ability to utilize the whole field sparks interest right away, and the strength and thump that’s showcased to both gaps and alleys is certainly intriguing. Evident barrel feel with some power ceiling, look for Taylor to make a serious jump this summer, as he did in the summer/fall of 2024. |
