Prep Baseball Georgia
Staff

DAWSON COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL -On March 29th and 30th the Prep Baseball Scouting Staff hosted a Georgia Select 14u Weekend that included some of the top talent from the 2028-2030 graduation classes in the peach state. On Saturday we brought the TrackMan for batting practice rounds, and VALD for the 60-yard dash in order to help these players understand a pro-style workout and to collect data from each player in order for us to track their progress as these boys continue to grow and develop as they begin their high school careers. On Sunday, we ran a round-robin style tournament that allowed for the four teams to play each other that also had TrackMan data and analytics collected from the pitchers. Today, we will take an even closer look at the position players from those in attendance with the help of our tech partners, broken down by the categories and leaderboards below.

Quick Hits

Hudson Pursell, OF/RHP, 2029, Wesleyan
Pursell was absolutely locked in at the dish Sunday evening and would put together arguably the best weekend at the dish. As he would collect multiple XBHs including a pull-side home-run that got out in a hurry. The RHH displays simple actions with great leverage through the zone, which results in carry to the pull-side. Showing a good feel for the barrel with budding impact out front, Pursell has sneaky strength to project on within the wiry 6-foot-1 frame. As well as showing a strong arsenal on the mound. Fastball sat 78-80 T81, Slider was spun over at 70, 72, and changeup was thrown at 69-71.

Carson Clark, 3B/C, Cambridge, 2029
One of the strongest days Sunday came via the bat of Clark. As he would compile a flurry of base-hits, and a pull-side home-run that he would carry out of the LF wall in his final at-bat of the event. The strength was present for some of his first BP swings as he would produce a max EV of 91.6. Clark shows simple actions in the box and is aggressive early in the count. Delivers a well-leveraged barrel through the zone with some budding impact out front. As well as showing an upper 70s FB on the mound. There is good projection remaining within the athletic 6-foot-2, 194-pound frame.

Ethan Patti, 3B/C, Mount Paran, 2029
Patti put together a really strong weekend at the plate. As it seemingly felt like he produced a barrel , which resulted in a base-hit each time he stepped in the box. Patti holds an easy rhythm in the box and is always on time, whether seeing velocity or spin. The RHH does a great job of staying balanced through the zone with a strong feel to manipulate the barrel throughout the zone. The approach really stands out for Patti as he is rarely overmatched and is consistently a tough out.

Liam Search, SS/RHP, 2029, Roswell
The switch-hitter produced a really solid round of batting practice. As he would show the ability to spray the ball to all-fields from both sides of the plate. The feel for the barrel is present with compact and quick hands through the zone. As well as showing excellent weight distribution and an easy mover through impact. Search would then carry over the BP performance into gameplay. Where he would find solid barrels from both sides of the plate for a pair of knocks. The bat-to-ball skills really stood out in-game within a mature approach and ability to take what the pitcher gave him. Search would also work with a three pitch-mix on the mound. Fastball at 76-78 T89, changeup 67-69, and slider at 65-69.

Hudson Morris, 1B/OF/ LHP, 2029, Oceanside Collegiate Academy (SC)
The LHH put together a strong round of BP where he showed the ability to spray balls both to the backside and to the pull side. Creating good separation at the plate, Morris is an easy mover through impact with some impact in the barrel. Which produced a max EV of 88.6 in BP. Morris would carry this over into gameplay where he lived on the barrel and collected a flurry of hard hit base-hits. Working to all-fields he shows present feel for the barrel with tremendous fluidity through the zone. As well as showing an intriguing arm talent on the mound with a three-pitch mix. Fastball sat 76-78 T79. Changeup was worked in at 74-76 as well as a curveball at 66-68. There is substantial projection within the frame at 6-foot-2, 160-pounds.

Colton Dabkowski, OF/SS, 2029, Woodgrove High (VA)
The smooth-swinging LHH furnished an extremely impressive round of batting practice. Where he would produce one of the highest EVs of the day at 96.4. The potent swings taken in BP would carry over into gameplay as Dabkowksi would catch barrels at a rapid rate. Staying compact in a quick trigger, Dabkowski showed the ability to spray the ball all over the yard with an aptitude to work backside. Displayed an above-average feel for the barrel backed by present bat speed. As well as being an effortless mover through impact. The lean, athletic 5-foot-11, 177-pound LHH exuded many hitterish traits throughout the weekend. Showing all the early makings of a budding hit-tool there is much more to project upon for Dabkowksi.

Chase Link, C/3B, 2029, Hollidaysburg (PA)
Extremely loud barrels from the right hander all afternoon as the hit tool was on full display. Showed the ability to drive the ball to the opposite field with carry while also showing strong pull-side feel. A physically advanced and strong 5-foot-8, 180-pound frame that moves well and shows athleticism behind the dish with a strong arm and solid footwork. His swing shows a close stance with hands coiled with little elbow flare. Swing mechanics show a good feel for hard and consistent contact. Showed an average of near 90 EV during his batting practice round. He will be a fun player to watch as he continues to develop.

Garrett Hunt, OF/RHP, 2028, Chattahochee
One of the smoothest swings from the left side that exuded confidence at the plate. Showed some above average approaches and a disciplined eye with a feel for the barrel. Battled into some deep two strike counts that he was able to slap the barrel on for back-side base hits and also the ability to sit fastball and adjust to the off-speed was impressive. Also a solid round of batting practice that displayed a well connected swing and pull-side potential. Displayed a relaxed and easy swing, loose hands, simple load that shows a mature swing. Athletic 5-foot-9, 146-pound frame with ability to throw it on the mound as well. FB sat 70-68 and a CV that was in the lower 60’s but showed ability to manipulate.

Jordan Brynteson, OF/RHP, 2029, Dacula
Interesting look from the right side as the hit tool was loud early. Impressive swings that showed controlled aggression in the box and pull-side power. He launched a two-strike fastball into orbit and deep to left field for a no-doubter. His swing showed good separation during his load and a strong bat path that matches plane and can generate backspin with ease. An athletic 6-foot-1, 171-pound frame that showed some range in the outfield as well as a strong showing on the mound. FB got up to 77 and sat in the mid 70’s, a CH from the upper 60’s into the low 70’s with some arm-side fade, and a CV in the upper 60’s that showed good shape. He will be a fun player to watch over the next year as he enters onto the high school scene and looks to do some damage at the next level.

Rylan Long, C/OF, 2029, Mount Paran
Athletic, physical 5-foot-10, 170-pound frame with a high waist. Took mature rounds of BP with excellent feel for the barrel in a well-connected swing that peppered both gaps with a max EV of 89.9. Carried that hot start into game play where he proceeded to catch barrels to both fields with a mature approach showing in every AB. Showed some good defense actions both behind the plate and in the outfield with flexibility and present arm strength. Some quality polish already with projection remaining. High follow.

Jayden Bloodworth, SS/RHP, 2028, Eastside
Bloodworth flashed a strong two-way profile across the two days while showing plenty of projection remaining in the 5-foot-9, 145-pound frame. Switch-hitter with some barrel skills from both sides of the plate and strong pitch recognition for the class. Came through with multiple knocks during game play as well as max exit velocity of 86.0 in BP. Up to 79 with feel for the zone, but the slider was the standout at 66-70 with present feel to spin and sharp sweep that was creating swing-and-miss at will. Already earning varsity time and will be one to watch in the coming years.

Gavin Poteet, LHP, 2029, Cherokee Bluff
The 2024 Junior Future Gamer has big-time projection remaining in the lean, high-waisted 6-foot-2, 177-pound frame. Composed delivery on the mound with a compact arm action and repeatability while finishing with a lower release point. Fastball was up to 83, living 79-82 with some cut/ride action and feel on the inner half. Sweeper looks like a future weapon at 70-74 with upwards of 20” of horizontal break. Flashed a CH as well with some arm-side fade in the low-70s. There’s much more to come for Poteet and will have a chance to be an impact arm early at Cherokee Bluff in the coming years.

Kendel Brown, MIF/OF, 2029, Sandy Creek
Projectability jumps out with Brown, starting with the lean, athletic 5-foot-9, 127-pound frame. Well-connected RH swing with balance and great length in-zone. Peppered balls to the pull-side with ease, Max EV 79.0 with a 78% sweet spot. Good pitch recognition showed in-game, refusing to chase before hammering multiple pitches for knocks to LF. Athletic actions in the dirt as well with present lateral range and willingness to attack balls with confidence.

RJ Westbrook, LHP/OF, 2029, Mt. Paran
Lean, athletic 6-foot-2 160-pound frame. Westbrook put together a strong all around weekend at the plate and on the mound. He ran the fastball up to 79 with feel for the zone and the ability to land the curveball for strikes. He put together strong AB’s all weekend with an easy line drive round of BP with a max exit velocity of 84.4 and max distance of 292ft.

Chase Michelson, SS, 2029, Lovett
Michelson showcased the athleticism in the field all weekend long. He made a couple really top plays to his back hand that were really impressive. In BP on Saturday he posted a max exit velocity of 89.5 and max distance of 325ft. He was a tough out at the dish and came through with multiple hits to the pull side. He also hopped on the mound and ran the fastball up to 79. He is going to be one to keep an eye on as he heads into Lovett next year with a chance to make an early impact.
