Each week, our staff updated the Power 25 and provides key talking points from games the week prior. This week, we see the No. 1 and No. 2 teams hold steady with plenty of movement throughout, including two new teams jumping into the fold

Talking Points

  • Top two matchup. The top two remain the same following a series win by #1 Archbishop Spalding over #2 John Carroll. The Patriots handed Spalding just their 2nd loss of the season on Wednesday behind a strong start on the bump by Brooks Mueller going 6.1 innings pitched while punching five, as Frostburg State commit Drew Jourdan added six RBI at the dish to lead the offense.
  • The Hoyas are rolling. Georgetown Prep has been rolling as of late and now sit at 10-5 after six consecutive wins and a move up to number five in our Power 25. Another big week for the Hoyas has them vying to keep the winning streak alive, as they have St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes for two and Gilman on Saturday.
  • The Swarmin’ Hornets get back to their winning ways. Damascus now sits at 7-2 following two notable wins over Poolesville and Sherwood, jumping into the top ten at number ten in this latest update. Following an upset loss to Magruder last Saturday, the Swarmin’ Hornets got back to their winning ways behind strong pitching performances by William Heyse (5 IP, 0 ER, 10 K’s vs. Poolesville) and Mason Walter (7 IP, 1 ER, 7 K’s vs. Sherwood).

Winners

  • Bethesda-Chevy Chase continues their undefeated streak and now sit at 8-0 after a win against Churchill. A team that has taken MoCo by storm behind dynamite pitching and a consistent offense 1-9, the Barons have solidified their place as the top public school to beat across the state.
  • Walter Johnson jumps to number six after a huge win over Whitman in their rematch and a dominant win over Blair last week. The Wildcats have officially hit their stride and taker their four game winning streak into Spring Break.
  • Stephen Decatur jumps just outside the top ten after another 2-0 week and now sit at 8-1 heading into a huge week that sees them matchup with a cross-county rival in Sherwood during Spring Break.
  • Northeast-AA is one of the hottest teams in the state, and after a 3-0 week that included a rematch win over Severna Park has the Eagles steamrolling up the Power 25.

Seeking Improvement

  • Brunswick: The Railroaders drop a tough one last week to Oakdale and look for more consistency on both sides of the ball as we head into the break. The defending state champions are still the team to beat in 1A, however, more consistency is needed if Brunswick will repeat
  • Leonardtown drops a game to Huntingtown and sees themselves just outside the Power 25 as we head into the break. A huge week ahead that sees the Raiders matchup with top tier teams in Patuxent, Urbana and Chesapeake.
