This Thursday, Prep Baseball staff attended a matchup of two teams off to hot starts, as 10-0 Decatur faced 9-3 Peninsula. Both teams have a combination of varsity experience and intruiging underclassman. The bats stole the show in this one, as Decatur won it 10-3 to move to a perfect 11-0 on the season. Below are scouting notes on standout prospects from the game.

Decatur vs. Peninsula (4.17.25)

Decatur

'25 OF Eric Havili (Uncommitted)
Dynamic athlete in the leadoff spot and in CF has gotten off to a torrid start, hitting .441 with 2 HR and 9 total XBH to this point. Compact RH swing with some pull power present. Strong, athletic 6'0 frame covers ground in the OF, closing the gaps multiple times. Was a sparkplug all afternoon, finishing 2-3, 2B, HBP, 3 R, RBI overall. Impressive performance.

'27 RHP/INF Ethan Flavel (Uncommitted)
6'2 sophomore started the game catching defensively and hit in the three hole, but showed his most exciting potential on the mound despite some mixed results. FB sat 82-85 with some cutting action from a short delivery with a 3/4 slot release. Strong frame could see more success coming on the mound with increased ability to stay behind the ball and locate. Still has an arsenal to get quality varsity hitters out. Final line of 3 IP, 2 R (0 ER), 2 BB, 4 K.

'25 INF Spencer Holloway (Uncommitted)
Another senior that led the way offensively, Holloway showed some power to the gaps with two doubles in Thursday's game. Multi-sport athlete showed range to both the forehand and backhand as well as a strong arm from the SS position. Offensively, keeps the hands tight to frame with an abbreviated finish. Finds the barrel with ease. Went 2-4, 2 2B, 2 R, 2 RBI in his productive afternoon. Key part of the Gator's 11-0 start to the season.

'27 OF Cervantes Gatterson (Uncommitted)
Twitchy sophomore went 1-2 with 2 runs scored as a part of Decatur's big offensive afternoon. High energy player when locked in, with a pull oriented approach from the LH side. Gets the most out of compact frame with some quickness in the bat. Short strider was in RF in this one but has enough athleticism to stick in any of the three OF spots. Developing arm strength. Part of a strong sophomore class for the Gators.

'26 1B/RHP Dylan Reano (Uncommitted)
Physical 6'2 power bat has a pair of HR's and is tied for the team lead in RBI to this point. Uphill bat path with real bat speed due to frame. 1-3 with 2 RBI and a BB from the cleanup spot. Threw a scoreless final inning to secure the victory. Some ride on a FB up to 86 MPH played up in the zone and induced multiple whiffs in his short stint. Allowed a hit and a walk but struck out two in the inning of work. Impactful game with loud power tool.

Peninsula

'27 C/INF Pete Browand (Uncommitted)
An impact player from the start of his freshman season, Browand continued to look the part of a top-10 ranked player in the '27 state class in this look. Sinks deep into lower half with a flat RH swing that produces loud results. Finished 1-4 with an RBI. More gap power currently but steady increases in physicality shown. Aggressive on the base paths with 2 SB. Typical catcher got the start at SS and handled defense well, including a ranging play in the 5/6 hole early in the game. Player to circle this summer.

'25 OF Isaac Schultz-Tait (Uncommitted)
Long-levered 6'4 player hit leadoff and manned CF, showing some nice progression in his overall game since previous look. 1-4 with a run scored at the plate, with a line drive to left showing the potential of the bat when on time. Long strider in CF with some arm strength. Multi-sport athlete.

'25 1B Matthew Sleeter (Uncommitted)
Arguably the best offensive performance of any Seahawk, reaching base 3 times overall. Took an outside pitch deep in the gap the other way for a triple, the lone XBH for Peninsula. Finished the game 1-2 with 2 BB's. Made the routine play defensively at 1B and had a couple of nice digs on throws in the dirt. Productive performance

'27 INF Kainoa Coit (Uncommitted)
Sophomore has had a great start to his 2025 and went 1-2 with a run in this look. More of a contact-over-power approach to this point, but bat-to-ball skills certainly shine. Compact, stocky frame defensively may transition to a corner spot down the line. Been an on base machine through 12 games, hitting .467 with a .564 OBP.
