With than in mind Prep Baseball California is continuing to highlight some of the top uncommitted class of '26 athletes for college programs to be following throughout the remainder of the spring schedule and into the summer. The player featured today is one of the top players in the state of California and figures prominently in our Class of 2026 Rankings.
We invite you to get to know them through the eyes of our Prep Baseball California staff of scouts both through our in person looks at players and/or the data-backed numbers collected at our events with our partnered companies. TrackMan, Blast Motion, and VALD Performance provide comparable data to project and evaluate players. All of these systems come together to give a clear picture at what colleges will get when a players steps onto their campus.
Today, we put the spotlight on the #48 ranked player in the 2026 class in SoCal '26 INF/RHP Jack Champlin from St. John Bosco High School in the Bellflower, Calif.. The RH hitting INF defender also adds an intriguing pitching profile and has been outstanding on the mound. In the spring of 2024 he played a prominent reserve role for the Braves who made their way to the CIF-Southern Section D3 title game and Champlin posted a solid stat line in the repetitions he earned. Slashing .385/.407/.462 with two doubles, two RBIs, and seven runs scored in 28 plate appearances. On the mound he made nine appearances totaling 19.1 innings while earning two wins with a 1.81 ERA out of the Braves bullpen with 15 Ks. Now to open his JR. campaign the talented two-way is posting solid numbers again. At the plate again filling a role for the Braves as a RH hitter he has slashed .250/.321/.375 over 26 plate apperances with one homer, three RBIs and six runs scored. But, on the mound the profile has taken a step forward in the early part of the spring posting 28 Ks in 26 IP already with a 1.88 ERA, two wins (including one over the powerhouse OLU program) and has allowed just 12 hits and four walks over those 26 innings.
His solid season as a Soph. earned him a spot on Team California at the 2024 Prep Baseball Future Games where he had a solid showing as an INF at LakePoint. Then in January of 2025 I had the chance to see him work on the bump at the UCSB team camp where his lively FB/SLD combination was impressive. The FB worked at 84-86 MPH touching 87 MPH multiple times on a cold evening and reports have him up to 88-89 MPH on the FB this spring. Champlin spun his SLD at 76-78 MPH with sharp two-plane shape inducing whiff/chase from hitters.
Champlin checks in at 6' with a wiry athletic frame tha is adding strength to its present 160 lbs. build. He shows present solid athletic ability in his profile with a 7.05 60 time while posting 1.76 10-yard / 3.95 30-yard splits at his best with a 19.8 MPH max run speed. His athletic ability gives him solid 3 position versatility around the INF to go with solid present arm strength that has room to develop more as he continues to mature and get stronger posting a 85 MPH INF arm velocity and he is a solid defender at SS.
At the plate it's a compact/direct RH swing that has a simple operation in the box. On Blast Motion the RH hitting Champlin has posted bat speed up to 73.7 MPH while showing high quality hand speed at 20.8 MPH with a turn that generates up to 7.1 Gs of rotational acceleration. During his Future Games batting practice session Champlin demonstrated an interesting RH hitting profile. He posted a top end exit velocity at 91.7 MPH while averaging 85.8 MPH with a 338' on his max distance. His swing path and approach showed a flatter path that generated 50% Fly Ball/Line Drive rate during that batting practice which suits a profile geared for line to line hard contact at the plate with pull side HR impact.
With a solid two-way profile that has performed at a solid rate on the varsity level early in his High School career there is plenty to like about the present with Champlin. But, with defensive versatility and an ever emerging profile on the mound the ceiling for his future is intriguing and makes him a strong name for college programs in the 2026 class.

Jack Champlin, St. John Bosco High School (CA), 2026
Positional Profile: SS/2B Athletic middle of the diamond defender who shows SS potential while adding quality bat to ball RH hitting approach
Body: 5-11, 143-pounds. Smaller lean frame with length and room to fill
Hit: RHH. Narrower set up with knees under shoulders and feet slightly wider has bend in his rear knee sitting weight slightly back on back leg with a straighter front leg. Minimal hip hinge in set up with hands set just above rear shoulder at same depth and off his body with low back elbow and barrel tipped forward over his head aimed at pitcher. Uses a forward move to get to a 50/50 balance position at launch with minimal hand load while staying on the taller side at launch. Bat path is direct to the ball with a flatter swing path generating more line drive leverage while maintaining his balance in the turn process. Relies more on the quickness of his hands and direct bat path than generating torque through the lower 1/2.
Power: Profiles currently as a high contact hitter with a middle of the field doubles approach who shows ability to elevate with impact to the pull side of the field with HR potential.
Arm: RH. INF-85 mph. Consistent transfer with arm working back and up to release from the ear, but does show ability to throw from different slots. Ball carries out of hand with accuracy profiles to handle SS.
Defense: Body control with good feet and easy actions moving around the INF dirt. Hands are soft with feel to play both 1 and 2 handed with confidence. Projects as SS potential defender.
ATH: Upright runner who builds speed as he goes with length and ease to his strides.
