Each week, coaches throughout the state submit their nominations for the Prep Baseball California Player of the Week for both NorCal and SoCal. Week 9 Players of the Week honors went to John Kasten (Clovis, 2025) and Cooper Berger (Santiago, 2025). Kasten hit .636 on the week, going 7-for-11 with eight walks, while adding a triple, two RBI, and nine runs scored. Berger threw six shutout innings in the win over Corona on 67 pitches, allowing just one hit, striking out two, and walking one.
With several other notable performances this past week that were in the mix for both awards and deserve recognition, here is a rundown of some of the other standouts of the week.
WEEK 9 DIAMOND NOTES
+ Brock Dixon, C/1B/OF (Temescal Canyon, 2025)
Dixon was an impact bat in the middle of the order for Temescal Canyon to help lead the Titans to a perfect 3-0 record on the week. Dixon went 6-for-9, with a HR, a 3B, a 2B, 6 RBI, and 4 runs scored across the three games. Dixon is now slashing .373/.474/.644 on the season, being a consistent driving force of the Titans' offense.
+ Gannon Gonzales, RHP/2B (Temescal Canyon, 2025)
Gonzales shined in the win in one of the two wins Temescal Canyon had over West Valley. In the second of a two-game set, Gonzales tossed a two-hit shutout on 85 pitches, striking out 11 and walking only 2. Gonzales is now 5-0 on the season, with a 1.13 ERA in 31 innings, 40 strikeouts against 4 walks, and only 15 hits allowed.
+ Ryan Hubbard, C/OF (Oak Ridge, 2026)
Hubbard delivered a 2 HR game in the 10-0 win over Cardinal Newman at the Boras Classic as part of a stellar week at the plate. The junior went 5-for-12, with 2 HR, a 3B, a 2B, and 6 RBI to help lead Oak Ridge to a 3-1 record on the week. Hubbard now leads the Trojans with 3 HR on the season.
+ Noah Irwin, RHP (Gahr, 2025)
Irwin would deliver two scoreless appearances in wins over La Mirada. After striking out 3 over 2.1 scoreless innings out of the bullpen on Tuesday to earn the win, Irwin would toss a shutout on Friday. The senior gave up only 2 hits and struck out 1 over his 7 innings of work. Irwin is now 1-0 on the season, with a 1.27 ERA in 11 innings, 6 strikeouts, and only 6 hits allowed.
+ Gus Cooper, LHP (Arcadia, 2025)
Cooper dominated on the mound in the first of a two-game set versus Burbank. The senior struck out 9 and walked only 1 in a one-hit shutout over the Bulldogs. Cooper brings his season ERA to 0.36 over 39 innings, with 36 strikeouts against 7 walks, 21 hits allowed, and a 6-0 record.
+ Ayden Katuszonek, RHP/1B (Rosamond, 2027)
The Rosamond righty shined on the mound in a complete game win over Lone Pine. Katuszonek scattered 3 hits over his 7 innings of work, struck out 16 of the 29 batters he faced, walked only 3, and allowed 1 unearned run. The sophomore would also go 1-4 at the plate with a run scored in the victory.
+ Brady Estes, LHP (Whitney, 2025)
Estes was lights out in game 1 of the Boras Classic, tossing a shutout in the win over Liberty. Estes struck out 13 over 7 innings, allowed only 2 hits, and walked just 1. The Cal Poly commit is now 3-1 on the season to go along with a 2.14 ERA in 36 innings, 54 strikeouts against 22 walks, and 23 hits allowed.
+ Stevie Jones, LHP/OF (Corona del Mar, 2026)
Jones delivered on both sides of the ball to lead Corona del Mar to a three-game sweep over Marina. After a scoreless inning on the mound to earn the win on Tuesday, Jones delivered 6 shutout innings on Friday to cap off the sweep. On the mound, Jones combined for 8 strikeouts over 7 scoreless innings, giving up only 4 hits and walking just 1. At the plate, Jones went 5-for-10, with 3 RBI, a run scored, and a walk across the three games.
+ Hugo Marks, RHP/3B (Washington, 2026)
The Washington two-way player would excel on the mound and out of the three-hole in the win over James Logan to split a two-game series. Marks scattered 5 hits over a complete game, struck out 6 against 3 walks, and allowed only 1 earned run. The junior would help his own cause at the plate, going 1-for-4 with 2 RBI on the day.
+ Gunner Santillo, SS (Villa Park, 2026)
Santillo was a standout bat for Villa Park in the two-game sweep over El Modena. Hitting 5th in both games, the junior combined to go 5-for-7 with 3 RBI across the two victories. Santillo is now batting .429 on the season, with a 3B, 2 2B, 11 RBI, and is tied for a team-leading 24 hits.
+ Paul Dominguez, RHP/1B (Cypress, 2025)
Dominguez swung a hot bat for Cypress in a two-game sweep of Foothill. Hitting 3rd for Cypress in both games, Dominguez crushed a 3-run HR in game 1 and delivered 2 2B and 2 more RBI in game 2. Dominguez would combine to go 3-for-6 across the two victories with a team-leading 5 RBI. The senior is now batting .429 on the season, with 4 HR, 6 2B, 16 RBI, and 11 runs scored.
+ Cole Studt, C (Highland, 2026)
Hitting out of the 3-spot, Studt put up a perfect day at the plate in the win over Quartz Hill, going 4-for-4, with an RBI and a run scored on the way to a great week at the plate. The junior would play a key part in Highland's 3-1 record on the week, combining to go 7-for-10, with a HR, a 2B, 4 RBI, and 4 runs scored across the four games. Studt is now batting a team-leading .469 this season, with 3 HR, 6 2B, 22 RBI, and 21 runs scored.
