On Monday, March 31st, the Prep Baseball Ontario staff hosted it's first of two Rising Stars ID's with the Sold Out Toronto Rising Stars ID hosted at the The Yard, in Oshawa, Ontario.

This event featured 60+ prospects in the 2029 - 2030 classes and for an introductory showcase that allowed the young athletes to compete in their first showcase with players stricly within their age group. Rising Stars ID's also serve as identifiers for Canada's Junior Future Games Team that will compete at LakePoint Sports in late July against top players from each U.S. State.

All player ran through a full workout that included batting practice and bullpens captured on our TrackMan, as well as 30-yard springs captured by VALD Performance and positional drills including velocities. Over the next several days we'll be highlighting top performers from the event within our post-event analysis. Stay locked into our social media channels over the next several days as we continue to push out video, leaderboards and more.

Christopher DesLauriers RHP / 3B / Pickering High, ON / 2029

DesLauriers (Whitby Canadians) was the big winner at the Toronto Rising Stars ID and is an easy standout with his size and arm strength which are both above average for his age of 14. Already some strength in the frame at 5-foot-11, 185-pounds and showcased best on the mound where he has a quick arm that allowed him to sit 80-82mph with above average spin (2448 max/2372 avg). The secondary stuff included a tight breaking ball at 65-67mph (-2.5 IVB/-8.0 HM) with some bite and a changeup at 72-73mph. At the plate, the left-handed hitter found the Sweet Spot at a clip of 63% to go along with a peak exit velocity of 83.2mph. DesLauriers was also up to 82mph on the infield. Highly intriguing young talent in the Durham Region area and name to know in Ontario’s 2029 class.

Jackson Batstra OF / RHP / Brooklin School, ON / 2029

2029 OF/RHP Jackson Batstra was another standout from the Whitby Canadians program. One of the more physical players at the event, standing at 5-foot-11, 174-pounds and put some of the louder metrics on both sides of the ball. There’s arm strength that allows him to excel on the mound and was one of the better movers during bullpens as he sat 78-80mph with the fastball. The secondary stuff included a curveball at 70-71mph and a changeup at 71-74mph. At the plate, the right-handed hitter was able to work to all parts of the cage with line-drives and a Sweet Spot % of 55%, to along with a peak exit velocity of 87.9mph and peak distance of 275ft.

Austin Robins 1B / RHP / Cobourg Collegiate Institute , ON / 2029

Robins (Vaughan Vikings) was another player who physically stood out with a towering frame and some present strength at 6-foot-2, 215-pounds. The ball was jumping off the right-handed hitters bat when he was able to find the barrel as he showed his strength with a peak exit velocity of 90.3mph (84.9 avg), peak distance of 265ft and Sweet Spot % of 78%.  On the mound, the Vaughan Vikings product sat 76-78mph along with a curveball at 61-64mph and splitter at 63-65mph. Plenty of potential here as Robins continues to develop and refine his game.

Nolan Landry OF / RHP / CCI in September , ON / 2029

2029 OF/RHP Nolan Landry (Whitby Canadians) was another two-way standout in Oshawa and there’s tons of potential going forward as he matures and grows. It’s a clean left-handed swing that was able to work to all fields and it’s easy to project on the offensive capabilities. Landry put up a peak exit velocity of 84.6mph and peak distance of 277ft. On the mound, Landry filled up the zone with a fastball that sat 76-77mph and partnered it with a curveball at 62-65mph and changeup at 68-69mph. Another highly intriguing prospect in the Durham Region as he progresses towards high school.

Owen Poliziani 1B / 3B / st. Joan of arc Barrie , ON / 2029

INF/RHP Owen Poliziani (Team Ontario Astros) stood out with his size and metrics at the Toronto Rising Stars ID. XL frame with present strength at 6-foot-1, 230-pounds and allowed him to drive the ball during BP as the right-handed hitter put up the top distance at 317ft and 2nd-best exit velocity at 90.2mph. There’s also potential for Poliziani on the mound where he ran his fastball up to 78mph, along with a slider and changeup.

Atticus Feng C / OF / Markham District High School, ON / 2029

‘29 C/OF Atticus Feng (Toronto Mets) was a catcher who really caught our attention at the Toronto Rising Stars ID with quick actions and transfer behind the dish. Still just 13-years-old, Feng is athlete behind the dish and had a best pop-time of 2.37 with a velocity of 63mph. The right-handed hitter was able to utilize the middle of the cage and its still a line-drive/spray approach as he continues to gain strength. An intriguing young catcher as Feng continues to mature, gain strength and get more reps.
