We invite you to get to know them through the eyes of our Prep Baseball California staff of scouts both through our in person looks at players and/or the data-backed numbers collected at our events with our partnered companies. TrackMan, Blast Motion, and VALD Performance provide comparable data to project and evaluate players. All of these systems come together to give a clear picture at what colleges will get when a players steps onto their campus.

Today, we put the spotlight on the #121 ranked player in the 2026 class in SoCal '26 C/INF Michael Nonis from Corona Centennial High School in the Corona, Calif..  Nonis is an interesting LH hitter who shows a strong approach with plate discipline and emerging impact in his bat while showing feel to drive in runs and has turned into a solid to strong defender at the premium defensive spot of catcher. During his Soph. campaign at Centennial High School Nonis produced an impressive stat line playing consistently on the varsity level with a .360/.476/.500 slash line over 63 PA (50 ABs) drawing 10 BBs to 9 Ks while posting four doubles, one homer and driving in 16 runs. To start his JR. campaign Nonis has continued to show the plate discipline to be an on-base machine while flashing impact posting a .250/.435/.409 slash line in his first 62 PA (44 ABs) with 12 BBs to 9 Ks, homering twice with a double while driving in 14 runs. Nonis currently leads or is tied for the lead amongst regulars in the Huskies lineup in homers, RBIs, BBs, OBP on the 2025 spring.

His solid season as a Soph. earned him a spot on Team California at the 2024 Prep Baseball Future Games where he had a solid showing behind the plate and picked up multiple RBIs and drove a loud opposite field double to LCF in the game against Team Select. Nonis has stood out across a multitude of Prep Baseball California events beginning in 2022 with the IE Rising Stars ID and SoCal Rising Stars Game, then in 2023 at the IE Preseason ID, followed by an outstanding 2024 beginning with a standout performance at the SoCal Preseason All State Underclass into the Future Games Tryout: Orange County before heading to Georgia with Team California. To kick off the 2025 year Nonis again was one of the Top Performers with his performance at the Inland Empire Preseason All State event.

Nonis checks in at 5'6" with emerging strength in his compact frame that is a present 165.8 lbs.. His defense behind the plate has been on a steady upward trend and he posted personal bests in his catcher arm velocity at 80 MPH with pop times as low at 1.93 while consistently sitting in the 2.0 range with accuracy. He is an adept receiver with his compact frame able to present low targets and adeptly block balls in the dirt looking the part of a long term backstop who will be a solid defender with strong potential back there.

At the plate it's an impressive LH swing that has a simple operation in the box with an innate feel for hard contact. On Blast Motion the LH hitting Nonis has posted bat speed up to 74.3 MPH while showing impressive hand speed at 24.1 MPH with an aggressive tight turn that generates up to 28.1 Gs of rotational acceleration. During his various Prep Baseball California batting practice session Nonis has demonstrated his high level LH offensive potential. He has posted a top end exit velocity at 92.6 MPH while averaging 86.5 MPH with a 336' on his max distance with Hard Hit rates up to 43% and Sweet Spot rates up to 63% while consistently showing feel for contact in the air with Fly Ball/Line Drive rates in the 60-75% range across his various TrackMan Batted Ball data sessions.

With a solid defensive profile at a premium spot and an intriguing LH hitting profile with impact and on-base skills Nonis is a talented 2026 uncommitted who college programs would be well served to keep eyes on for their recruiting classes.

Scouting Report

2/24/25

Nonis continues to prove why he is a name to keep an eye on through this season as he keeps it rolling to help Centennial not only win this game big, but also capture their 4th win of the season. He gets his team on the board first by driving in two runs with bases loaded, showing his maturity at the plate by staying on the attack up in the count and drives this ball over the first baseman’s head to right field. His next two at-bats he would fly out deep to both center and right, further showing how well he is seeing the ball right now. One of those fly outs would net an RBI, getting a job done for his team with runners on. Beyond his strong performance on the field, Nonis also stands out for his leadership and character. He is consistently the first person out of the dugout to greet his teammates after a big play or a tough inning. His energy is infectious, and he creates a positive atmosphere on the field.

1/05/25

Nonis has slimmed down and added strength since we last saw him and the improved physique has elevated his overall game significantly. The sweet left-handed swing shows a little more consistent thump while the improved athleticism is allowing him to get to balls he may not have gotten to in the past. The most significant improvements are visible defensively where he’s moving and reacting more freely and quickly with a presently strong, accurate arm.
