LOS ANGELES, CALIF. - Each week during the high school season we will announce the California Player of the Week covering the action from the previous week. Numerous players across the state continue to put up impressive numbers both as position players and pitchers on the mound. This year we will be selecting a Hitter and Pitcher of the Week based on recommendations from high school coaches from around California. 

Continuing from previous seasons, we will also be highlighting others players from across the state in our Prep Baseball California Diamond Notes which will be released weekly. Our Diamond Notes will highlight other players nominated by high school coaches who are deserving of recognition but were not named Hitter/Pitcher of the Week.

HITTER OF THE WEEK

2025 RHP/INF John Kasten of Clovis High School has been named the California Hitter of the Week after a monster offensive week that helped Clovis go 3-1 in the Fresno Easter Classic last week. 

The University of North Carolina pitching commit was clutch all week in big spots at the plate for the Cougars who look to carry their tournament momentum into second half magic in the TRAC Conference. A bases loaded two out bases clearing hit to give Clovis a 3-0 lead over Stockdale was just one of seven hits on the week for Kasten who also drew eight walks. He added a triple, two RBI, and nine runs scored as he proved to be a one-man wrecking crew. 

The stats are nothing new as Kasten has been swinging a smoking hot bat all season. Kasten is slashing .525/.729/1.375 so far this spring. He’s also sporting a .646 on-base percentage meaning that Kasten, when not on the mound where he’s thrown limited innings this season, is still having a major impact on Clovis.
