Last week we were on hand for a huge match-up between the 3x defending 6A State Champion West Linn Lions vs the surging #2 South Salem Saxons. In a tightly contested showdown, South Salem came out on top in walk-off fashion by a final of 5-4. Here are some player notes and video from the action.
West Linn
'25 LHP Carson Boyer
Boyer showed a 3 pitch mix from the left side, coming at hitters from a ¾ arm slot which produces late arm side run. Living in the zone early in the count with an 83-84, T85 mph fastball, tunnels the breaking ball from the same arm slot well and gets swing and miss with his depth on the slider late in counts. On a cold day, the velocity was down a tad from previous looks but Boyer showed the ability to pitch on both sides of the plate to miss barrels. Gonzaga Commit
'25 OF Danny Wideman
A physical athlete that showed multiple tools in this game. Had 2 hard hit balls, one going for an early 2B. Wideman showed his speed to extend both plays into extra bases. Tracked down tough flyballs in the outfield while moving like an above average defender. Oregon Commit
Being a catalyst for the West Linn Lions was ‘25 OF Danny Wideman (West Linn/ @OregonBaseball commit) showing off his running ability to get multiple innings started.

‘26 INF Hank Curdy
Was one of the major contributors for the Lions, hitting 2 balls hard, showing the ability to go to all parts of the field. Starting with a more upright stance from the left side. Curdy has a calm load and smooth downward approach to the ball. Both of his balls coming off of 86+ MPH fastballs. Showed no issue handling higher velocity. Uncommitted
South Salem
'26 C Teagan Scott
Strong, physical and toolsy catcher. #1 prospect in Oregon 2026 class. Multiple hard barrels on this look. Hitting from the right side, Scott has an upright stance with his hands in the loading zone early. He has a small leg kick to get the swing started and showed off his ability to stay on the zone for a long time on both of his balls that went opposite field. Oregon State commit
#1 ranked player in Oregon ‘26 C Teagan Scott (South Salem/@BeaverBaseball commit) driving balls to all parts of the ballpark. Scott loud contact in multiple AB’s, reminding everyone why he is the top guy.

'25 OF Gavin Price
Put together one of the more impressive performances of the day in a game full of college prospects. Projectable frame with fast hands offensively and the ability to drive the ball to all fields. Price had multiple hits that went for extra bases while taking advantage of pitches he could handle up in the zone. University of Louisiana Monroe commit
Who else would the @SSaxonsBaseball want at the plate in the bottom of the 7th. ‘25 OF Gavin Price (South Salem/ @ULMBaseball commit) drives the ball to RF with the walk off double to beat the Lions in a great early season matchup. @SSaxonsBaseball pic.twitter.com/F25JgsA3L6

'27 RHP Harrison Buckingham
Projectable athlete with exciting upside on the mound. Buckingham’s pure stuff has progressed tremendously over the last 2 years and is now being asked to shoulder crucial innings as a rising sophomore. Comes at hitters from a high ¾ arm slot with a full, clean arm action..Used a steady mix of high RPM FBs with carry & his CB/CH combination to navigate some tight situations. Flashed multiple breaking balls that had depth and tight shape, generating consistent swing and miss when at its best.
'25 OF Noah Scharer
Scharer showed a high level approach at the plate drawing multiple walks and going 1-1 on the day with a hard hit ball into RCF. Athletically built OF prospect possesses present strength and has the frame to carry more weight and add more power as he continues to develop. Linn Benton CC commit.
