2025 Spring Team Preview: Cheshire Academy (CT)
CHESHIRE, Ct. - A trio of top-level pitchers brings a lot of promise for the 2025 campaign at Cheshire Academy.
“I think with our pitching and our ability to put the ball in play to go along with our speed, we should have a pretty decent season,” admitted head coach Anthony Giano.
The Cats will be strong where it’s needed most - on the mound - with the return of Tyler Stone, Garret Snyder and Dan Margolies. All are senior Division I college commits and each is a two-way player aiding with depth on the field.
Stone, the 16th-rated 2025 right-handed pitcher in New England, is a Virginia Tech commit who will play second base when not pitching. Snyder, the third-ranked senior RHP in New England, is a Notre Dame signee that will be at first base when not on the mound. Margolies, the number one senior left-handed pitcher in New England, will also play in the outfield for Cheshire, before heading to pitch at Clemson next year.
Chase Mendela, the 15th-rated senior shortstop in New England who is committed to play at Bentley, gives Cheshire Academy an anchor in the infield at short.
A program “known for putting a lot of kids into college and having strong pitching” according to Giano, will have big shoes to fill with the loss of a large group of graduates from a 15-4 squad that lost 3-1 to Salisbury in the Western New England Prep Baseball League semifinals. Cheshire lost to Salisbury in the finals a year prior.
Jaden Novack (catcher) is now at the College of Charleston, Pat MacKenzie (outfielder) at Villanova, Dylan Kennedy Fujah (outfielder) at St. John’s, Christian Rasmussen (RHP) at Hofstra, Evan Clark (LHP) at UMass Lowell, Zach Worzel (LHP) at UConn, Brian Hersh (catcher/3B) at Bentley and Mason Erwin (catcher) at Lesley.
