AIA Playoff Coverage: Play-In Round

The Arizona Scout Blog shifts into playoff mode as the AIA State Tournament gets underway. Throughout each round, the Prep Baseball Arizona staff will be on the ground covering matchups across all classifications, highlighting standout performances and key prospect evaluations. Player Notes:

Colin Murphy, 2027 C/UTIL/RHP, Chandler HS, uncommitted
Colin showed his competitiveness at the plate by driving a hard ground ball through the 5-6 hole for a single, igniting Chandler's offense in the first inning. He also displayed good instincts on the base paths, tagging up and scoring later in the inning. He's a versatile player who brings value on both offense and defense.

Marley Chancey, 2026 OF/RHP, Liberty HS, uncommitted
Marley continues to excel in the leadoff spot for Liberty. He consistently puts together tough at-bats, making pitchers work hard. He sets the tone for their lineup and is a difficult out, demonstrating strong plate discipline and a good feel for the game.

Hunter Kuczkowski, 2025 INF, Liberty HS, Chandler-Gilbert CC commit
Hunter had a significant impact for Liberty, driving in two runs with a well-hit ball to left-center. He finished the game strong, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, a stolen base, and two RBI. His two doubles were a new personal best. He's a clutch hitter with a reliable bat and good awareness on the bases.

Abram Sherrin, 2026 SS/RHP, Liberty HS, UC Santa Barbara commit
Abram continues to impress with a maturity beyond his years. He consistently puts together high-quality at-bats in the middle of Liberty's order. His balanced approach and confidence at the plate are key to their offensive consistency.

Troy Tewers, 2028 INF/RHP, Liberty HS, uncommitted
Troy is making a name for himself as a significant freshman contributor, even in a playoff environment. With advanced baseball instincts and a tough approach, he has earned a regular spot in the Liberty lineup. He's definitely a young player to watch closely as he continues his development.

Game Recap:

Liberty secured a 7-2 victory over Chandler in Wednesday’s Play-In game, matching their previous run total. This win marks their third consecutive victory against Chandler, improving their season record to 17-11. Hunter Kuczkowski led the offensive charge with a three-hit game, including two doubles and two RBI, while Ervey Quijada added a solo home run. Chandler finishes their season with a 13-14-1 record. Liberty advances to face the Hamilton Huskies in Round 1 this Saturday, May 3rd.
