E4M Invitational: Recap Stories and Top Performers
May 5, 2025
The inaugural E4M Invitational was hosted at Spotswood High School on Saturday with three marquee matchups. The E4M event was started by Spotswood head coach Glenn Fredricks in honor of former Spotswood player Matthew Carlson, who tragically passed away in an accident in 2022. Fredricks brought together some of the top teams in the area for a special event in conjunction with the opening of Spotswood's new, state of the art turf field.
Spotswood tops South Plainfield 8-4
In game one, the Spotswood Chargers defeated South Plainfield 8-4, led by John Lubin’s three hits and stellar play by Arcadia commit Will Buchan.
South Plainfield got the scoring started in the top of the first, but Spotswood responded in the bottom half, taking a 2-1 lead as Brandon Rivera’s groundout and Lubin’s single to center each drove in a run.
In the second, Buchan’s single to center added a run for Spotswood, making it 3-1. The Chargers broke the game open in the fourth, scoring five runs on four hits. Freshman Tyrus Lazar drew a walk to score a run, Lubin and Leo Carone each singled for an RBI, and Sebastian Saracino doubled to drive in two.
Buchan earned the win in relief for Spotswood, pitching one inning with no hits or runs, striking out two and walking one. Leo Carone started, allowing four runs (two earned) over six innings, with three strikeouts and two walks.
Spotswood collected 13 hits, with Lubin, Carone, and Ryan Orth each recording three. Lubin and Saracino drove in two runs apiece, while Buchan went 2-for-2 and Lazar drew two walks.
Immaculata Blanks Sayreville, 2-0
Uncommitted 2025 Robert Sikorski (Immaculata) tossed a complete game shutout for the Spartans, allowing just three hits and striking out five. The senior topped at 81 mph and mixed and matched with solid fastball command and was able to keep Sayreville on its toes by consistently landing his breaking ball for strikes.
Babson commit '25 Jayson Labrador and Fairfield commit '26 Owen Schilling each delivered RBIs in the first inning, which was all Sikorski needed to give Immaculata a hard fought win.
'28 Luca Catanzarite continued his masterful freshman campaign, consistenly being on the barrel throughout the game and proving why he's one of the top freshmen varsity contributors in the state.

St. Joe's (Montvale) tops St. Peter's Prep, 4-3
In the nightcap, St. Joe's (Montvale) topped St. Peter's Prep 4-3 in an exciting affair of two of North Jersey's top parochial programs. The matchup could provide a solid foreshadowing of what's to come when the state tournament gets underway later this month.
St. Peter's got the scoring started on a first inning single by Axel Martinez. St. Joe's quickly responded by tying the game in the top of the second inning.
A single by NJIT commit Lorenzo Camilleri gave St. Peter's Prep the lead again, 2-1, in the bottom of the fourth.
The Green Knights scored three 4-2 in the top of the fifth after Myles Gomez singled, scoring one run, and '26 Lorenzo Zeccardi's 2-RBI double.

Uncommitted 2027 Logan Jarer kept the St. Peter's offense at bay for most of the game. The lanky right hander allowed five hits and two runs over five innings, striking out eight and walking two. Jarer had a solid mix of a sinking fastball, topping at 80mph, along with feel for solid 11/5 breaker for strikes. Loose, whippy arm action and expect a jump in velocity this summer as he continues to notch innings under his belt.
SPP's exciting freshman, Anthony Huaranga, the No. 1 ranked player in the class for New Jersey, went 4.1 innings, allowing seven hits and stirking out six. He was consistently 86-88 touching 89 early on and mixed in a slider at 76-77, too. Impressed with his poise as just a freshman going up against one the state's premier programs.
St. Joe's improves to 11-6 on the year while St. Peter's Prep drops to 13-5.
