Wisconsin Power 25 Update
May 5, 2025
Our Power 25 had a pretty solid week, so there’s not a ton of change, although there’s some dramatic change at the top – we’ve got a new No. 1-ranked squad in the state. This was a week in which there are a few cases to be made for the new top overall team in the state, after our previous No. 1 dropped a couple games, so it wasn’t an easy choice.
We’ll dive into our thought process below, while discussing the rest of the movement within the top-10, as well as the three new teams that are ranked on the top-25 this week.
WHO’S NO. 1?
After Monona Grove’s (11-3) 1-2 week at the top of the board, there wasn’t an overwhelmingly obvious choice for the new No. 1 in Wisconsin. Here’s how we ended up breaking it down:
+ No. 1 Hudson (12-3): We think Hudson has the right combination of seniors, mound depth, and impact bats, although they haven’t won a ton of the interesting non-conference action they’ve scheduled and they haven’t been pitching it quite as well as we would have expected them to at this stage inside their conference. Still, LHP Mark Susa (2027), RHP Myles Howe (2026; uncommitted), and RHP Mitchell Anderson (2025; Bethel commit) have really begun to pitch well these last few weeks especially, with the sophomore southpaw effectively operating as the team’s ace right now. Susa has 27 Ks in 19.2 innings so far in 2025, with 12 walks, nine hits allowed, and just three earned runs. Meanwhile, Howe dominated his start last week against Eau Claire Memorial while Anderson got them the big non-con win at No. 6 Kimberly on Saturday, and he has 26 Ks in just as many innings as Susa this year.
Offensively, the Raiders are hitting .301 as a team led by another sophomore, C Logan Hagman, who has an OPS of 1.414 this year with 13 extra-base hits so far. Not far behind is breakout junior SS/RHP Jace Mataczynski (2026; uncommitted), who homered twice in their win at Kimberly over the weekend.
SS/RHP Jace Mataczynski (Hudson, 2026) is one of the most talented @PB_Uncommitted athletes in the state.

6-foot-3, 182 pounds with MIF actions, bat speed, and four HRs this spring – including two today.

In that same Kimberly win, OF Sam Manchester (2026; uncommitted) also slugged two homers from the left side, and he’s now third on the team with 16 RBIs in the team’s 15 games. INF Sam Abrahamson (2026; St. Thomas, MN) hasn’t yet ignited his bat, but he’s still reaching and making plenty of contact, hitting .353, just without many extra-base hits to this point, but those are surely coming. There’s also a senior foundation here that we really like, set by RHP/1B Bennett Brathol (Concordia-St. Paul), OF Steele Homme, 3B Silas Heisler (Northwestern-St. Paul), OF Hunter Oswald, and RHP Nick Hirsch (Wabash Valley JC) that really helps envision this team holding it down as the top-ranked team in Wisconsin.
+ No. 2 Sun Prairie East (10-2) & No. 3 Madison Memorial (11-2): These two are neck and neck with each other, having split their season series a game apiece a couple weeks back, looking even on talent in the process. It was a light week for them last week, as the Cardinals handled Madison East in two games while Memorial beat La Follette once and was en route to a second win before it was rain-shortened and postponed.
+ No. 4 Monona Grove (11-3): Two narrow games against a competitive Milton squad, a 5-4 win and a 5-4 loss, followed by a 4-1 loss to Verona over the weekend pushes the Silver Eagles out of the top spot. We wouldn’t be surprised to see them return as the No. 1 overall team in Wisconsin, but the bats have gone a little quiet here and there, so we’ll wait for them to return.
+ No. 5 De Pere (9-1): Weather has really affected the Redbirds’ spring but they were finally able to get three games in last week that includes a 1-0 win over an undefeated Manitowoc Lincoln squad. It took eight innings to decide that huge Lincoln matchup, but senior OF Ryan Wettstein (Minnesota-Duluth, football) scored on an error after reaching on his single. He’s been the team’s best bat through 10 games, 17-for-27 this season with five doubles and 13 RBIs. OF Mason Sequin (UW-Whitewater) has been very good himself, hitting .324 with two doubles and a homer that’s helped him drive in 11 runs. Senior C Trenton Kriewaldt (uncommitted) has also been productive from the middle of the lineup, with two homers this season and third on the team with 11 hits so far.
They’re also getting quality innings from RHP Lucas Koskey (uncommitted), RHP Isaac Poehlman (Dakota County Tech JC), and RHP Caden Krutz (uncommitted), which has made another run to state feel even more attainable despite fielding such a new-look roster from 2024’s championship year.
ELSWHERE IN THE TOP-10
+ At No. 6 and No. 7 this update, Kimberly (8-3) and Pewaukee (14-1) are each technically moving down a spot, but we’re still very high on these two. The Pirates swept West Allis Central and they continue to stifle opposing lineups – WAC actually didn’t record a hit in either game, for reference. They also beat the new No. 10-ranked team in a really close non-conference battle Saturday that helps them look like the top-ranked Division 2 team in the state at this stage.
As for Kimberly, they shut out both Kaukauna and Oshkosh North last week prior to a 6-0 loss to our new No. 1 Hudson on Saturday. This is still a deep roster that plays a fundamental game which will always challenge opposing teams to play their best brand of baseball when they face the Papermakers.
+ No. 8 Arrowhead (9-3): The Warhawks feel like they’re on the brink of really putting it all together. This was a huge week for them, as they swept both No. 14 Waukesha North and a preseason rank in Waukesha West to go 4-0 and 9-3 overall this spring. The North series was a really close one, and after a near-miraculous comeback last Monday, LHP Tanner Buhlmann (2026; UW-Milwaukee) helped them to another one-run win against the Northstars the next day. Against the Wolverines, Arrowhead’s arms were on point, limiting them to just one run in the two games. RHP/OF Cameron Carter (2026; UIC) K’d six in five dominant innings in the first game Friday, and then RHP Jack Roventini (2025; Chandler-Gilbert JC) and RHP Mason Chirafisi (2026; uncommitted) combined to no-hit them in game two.
There are quite a few competitive at-bats in this lineup, even if the offense has been hot and cold at times. Carter has been one of the most clutch bats for them this spring, while OF Yamato Takahashi (2025; MIT) and SS Brendan Foley (2026; uncommitted) have each represented a hard-nosed approach at the plate that Arrowhead has subscribed to as a team so far this season.
Next up is a critical game today at home against Muskego, followed by a series with a tough Mukwonago team and a non-conference matchup with a streaking Menomonee Falls squad Friday.
+ No. 9 Hortonville (11-2): Built similarly to Arrowhead, actually, the Polar Bears are rising way up the rankings after a huge 8-2 win on Friday against the now No. 1-ranked Hudson, a perfect end to a 3-0 week overall. They continue to get huge innings out of every arm they deploy each gameday, headlined by go-to junior RHP Braylon Brantner (2026; uncommitted), who pitched six shutout innings against Fondy last week Tuesday. RHP Tavien Gass (2025; McHenry County JC) is capable of being an ace on most squads, and he’s pitching like it on this one too. He did go the distance against Oshkosh West in a close 1-0 win on Thursday, finishing with seven innings and no runs allowed on two hits, one walk, with six Ks. Then, against Hudson, it was junior Noah Jentz’s (uncommitted) turn to start and actually RHP/OF Kaden Kreski (2025; uncommitted) tossed the final five shutout frames to secure that big win. The two held the Raiders to just five hits total and Kreski K’d four in his excellent relief work.
Hortonville’s pitching staff is going to make them a formidable contender in the postseason, and it helped them break into the top-10 for the first time in this week’s update.
+ No. 10 Sussex Hamilton (14-2): The Chargers are one of the stories of the season so far, as winners of 14 of their first 16 ballgames. And although they lost their most recent game, a 7-6 defeat to Pewaukee over the weekend, Hamilton looks like more than just the present pick to win the Greater Metro. The narrow loss is actually a quality one, when you factor in that it was the Chargers’ fifth game of the week, and the first four were sweeps of conference rivals Marquette and Brookfield Central. The four GMC wins gives them a three-game lead in the conference, at 12-0 in the standings, while no other team has fewer than three losses.
Senior RHP/CIF Ethan Hibicke (UW-River Falls; video below) has been, arguably, the team’s most valuable player through 16 games. He’s pitched 26.1 innings with a team-high 33 Ks and a 1.06 ERA all while hitting .356 with a team-high 15 RBIs. Junior RHP Jacob Osmanski (uncommitted) has impressed in his first year on varsity with a 1.40 ERA in 30 innings with 29 strikeouts. At the plate, catchers Luka Tusic (2025) and John Arnold (2026) are sharing duties behind the plate while leading the team offensively. Arnold is hitting .421 and leads the team with five doubles and 15 walks (.569 OBP) while Tusic is hitting .419 with a team-high 18 hits. Seniors OF Luke Lehnen (Concordia-St. Paul) and MIF Nathan Glapa (UW-La Crosse) are pulling more than their weight on defense while manufacturing runs in different ways – like Glapa’s 16 stolen bases this season already, for example.
There’s still room for them to move even higher up this board, too.
ON THE RISE
+ No. 12 New Richmond (12-0): Undefeated this spring still, the Tigers swept River Falls last week for two more crucial Big Rivers wins, including the second game of the series against one of the top right-handers in the state’s senior class. In that same contest, they got an excellent outing from RHP Nick Stellrecht (2026; uncommitted), who K’d seven over seven shutout innings with just four hits and two walks allowed. The first game of the series was a nail-biter that required rallies in the sixth and seventh frames, as INF Reagan Driscoll (2025) ended it finally on his walk-off single. The eight runs they allowed in that first game against the Wildcats were actually the most they’ve allowed all season in a game – they’ve recorded three shutouts and they’ve limited their opponents to three runs or fewer in 10 of their 12 games played.
+ No. 19 Hartford Union (10-4): The Orioles have won eight straight games since their rocky start to the spring, and they look like contenders in the North Shore once again. On Friday, they handed Slinger the Owls’ first conference loss of the season, 4-3, thanks in part to a big start from 3B/RHP Carter Kutz (2025; Nebraska). The offense has been ticking up too with the help of talented uncommitted juniors like MIF Aidan Kolb and OF Kaiden Romens, as well as sophomore INF Brady Helms (video below), who’s been one of the team’s most consistent bats all spring. Hartford’s also benefiting from seniors INF/RHP Joe Landgraf and LHP Jack Perkowski, who have been dependable arms giving the Orioles some real depth on staff.
+ No. 21 Manitowoc Lincoln (12-1): The Shipbuilders pushed De Pere scoreless to the extras but a passed ball and an error allowed the Redbirds to deal them their first loss of 2025 – and yet, we’re really impressed with the start by Lincoln this spring. In that game, senior INF/RHP Brayden Steinbecker (St. Cloud State) K’d eight in 7.1 innings with five hits, one walk, and one unearned run credited to him. And he and senior 1B Vance Schroeder make up one of the most productive duos in the middle of any order.
WELCOME...
+ No. 22 Oconomowoc (10-3): The Raccoons have won seven straight games, and since their last loss their pitching staff is allowing less than 2.5 runs a game. LHP Ryan Brennecke (2025; Wake Forest) is obviously a true ace as the top-ranked left-hander in the state, and he's pitching like it, while RHP Jaiden Delaney (2025; MSOE) has looked sharp along his team's win streak too. Meanwhile, the offense is really starting to fire up, behind C Marek Bolson (2025; Kent State) and 3B Cooper Schaefgen (2027; Louisville; video below), who's been one of the best hitters in the state this spring, and not just among sophomores. SS/RHP Luke Schlosser (2025; Rock Valley JC) is having a breakout senior spring too, and on both sides of the ball. There are a lot of role players making impacts on Oconomowoc as well, which has put them in a place where they're capable of winning the Classic Eight this spring, having already split with conference leaders Arrowhead earlier this season.
+ No. 23 Brookfield East (12-4): Since mid-April, the Spartans have been playing like one of the top teams in the Greater Metro. They won eight straight games before splitting their season series with Marquette last week, but they ended the week on a high note nonetheless with a non-conference win over No. 24 Wisconsin Lutheran, 6-5. RHP Noah Melby (2026; uncommitted) has been one of the top arms in the WIAA so far this season after really coming out of the offseason strong at the West MKE ID in February. And this offense can generate runs and we think it still has another gear to get to, led by OF Jack Murray (2026), OF Cooper Haas (2027), 1B/OF Zachary Steichen (2027; video below), and INF/RHP Sam Wells (2026; uncommitted).
+ No. 25 Franklin (10-2): The Sabres just took two of three from Oak Creek after beating ranked Muskego, 9-8, in the week prior to give them a few quality wins this spring, rebounding nicely from an opening day loss at Racine Case. RHP Samuel Ortiz (2026; uncommitted; video below) leads them from the mound with 20 Ks in 15.1 innings to go along with a 0.46 ERA, as does senior RHP Cameron Lund, who has allowed just nine hits in 18.2 innings this season, with 12 Ks. OF Onyu Lee (2025; uncommitted) has done it on both sides of the ball for the Sabres this spring. He's pitched well, but he's also hitting .387 with three doubles. Freshman backstop Tavin Nass is looking like a player to know for the future, as he's hitting .379 with a pair of doubles and 12 RBIs this season.
DROPPED OUT
We had to make some particularly tough decisions this week, as all three of these teams had cases to retain their spots on the top-25. Reedsburg lost a tough 2-1 ballgame against one of the conference’s top senior righties while Waupun dropped one to an up-and-coming Kewaskum squad. They still look like two real-deal D2 contenders.
