Colorado 2028 Class Rankings Update: 5/19/25

Cash Carpio SS / RHP / Rampart, CO / 2028

Carpio presented some advanced tools for his age during this year's Colorado Springs Preseason ID. The freshman posted a 101.5 mph top exit velocity with an 82 mph fastball on the mound. Carpio has a frame around 6-foot that bodes well for his future development, but he has already shown he can compete at the varsity level in 2025. This spring, Carpio hit .353 with 4 extra-base hits, and a 1.059 OPS across 44 plate appearances (5A). The athletic and strong prospect has a high ceiling as long as he continues to develop. 

Jake Orvis SS / 3B / Broomfield, CO / 2028

Orvis is a switch-hitting freshman who has gotten some quality time with the Broomfield Eagles' varsity squad this spring. In fact, the Prep Baseball Colorado staff got to see Orvis on hand for Broomfield's playoff regional host where they took on Fort Collins and Cherokee Trail on Saturday, May 17th. Orvis presented some intriguing looks from both sides of the plate with twitch and overall feel. The infielder went 3-5 on the day and racked up the quality at-bats in the Eagles' two wins to advance to 5A State. Orvis is now hitting over .400 across 61 plate appearances this season and is certainly a prospect to keep a close eye on.

Kolten De Groot 1B / RHP / Arvada West, CO / 2028

De Groot is a high ceiling right-hander that comes with a 6'6'' frame. The freshman has already gotten to cut his teeth at the 5A varsity level in 2025 thanks to tossing 23 innings with 41 Ks, just 6 walks, and a 3.04 ERA allowed. De Groot has also showcased a fastball up to 86 mph in events with pitchability and feel for spin. The tall and athletic arm has a chance to make some more noise this spring in the 5A State Tournament, and over summer. 

Jameson Wheeler 3B / RHP / Palmer Ridge, CO / 2028

Wheeler is a Junior Future Games alumni who did quite well in a full-time role for his 4A Palmer Ridge Bears' program this spring. The freshman has a natural hit tool with some developing strength that helped him bat .302 with 2 homeruns, a triple, and 4 doubles across 69 plate appearances. Wheeler has posted a 96 mph top exit velocity in past events and is now a top 10 ranked player within the state in his class. 

Holden Goodrich C / OF / Arvada West, CO / 2028

Travis Kenz SS / RHP / Valor Christian, CO / 2028
