Prep Baseball opened up the summer of 2025 evaluation season with multiple events at USA Baseball's National Training Center on Tuesday May 13th. Two scout days combined with a Summer ID to bring 20 players, ranging from the 2026 - 2028 graduating classes. Players were run through a full pro-style workout with Prep Baseball Scouts recording stats, metrics, and evaluating the players throughout the evening.
The workout began with a laser timed 60 yard dash. 10 yard and 30 yard splits were recorded using the VALD laser timing system as well. Hitters then went through multiple rounds of BP with TrackMan capturing ball flight data off the bat. Defensive workouts followed with each player working out at their defensive position, showcasing movement, arm path, release, carry and accuracy. The day finished with pitchers throwing bullpens where TrackMan was again recording the ball flight data out of the hand.
The Marucci Warriors and Orange County Crushers each brought players from their organization for the Scout Day. Scout Days allow for organizations to setup a workout for their players, giving them verified metrics and professionally edited video to host on their Prep Baseball player profile. The Team Carolina Summer ID provided an opportunity for high school players to update their Prep Baseball profiles as well. Players evaluated are eligible for selection to Team Carolina events which include the NC/SC Border Battle, Future Games, Sr. Future Games, Jr. Future Games, Super Sophomore Games and the Top Prospect Games.

TrackMan Pitching Metrics
FASTBALL STATS
Peak Velocity
Average Effective Velocity
Effective velocity is taking into account the velocity of each pitch, its release distance, the pitches time to the plate / hitting area, and the pitches movement. With all of this information, Effective Velocity is allowing coaches and scouts to more accurately compare how a pitch is affecting a hitter.
Peak Spin Rate
Average Spin Rate
Average Induced Vertical Movement
Induced vertical movement tracks how the ball rides through the zone, or sinks through the zone. For the purpose of this board we are tracking which fastballs showed the most ride, typically leading to more swing and miss opportunities
Average Horizontal Movement
Horizontal movement is often referred to as run. This measurement does not distinguish between early and late movement, just the overall amount the ball tracks to the arm side out of the hand.
Peak Spin Score
The Spin Score is a measurement linking velocity and spin. It is calculated by dividing the spin rate by the velocity of each pitch.
CURVEBALL STATS
Peak Velocity
Peak Spin Rate
Average Spin Rate
Average Induced Vertical Movement
This is a measurement of how much the ball drops from its original position and trajectory. It does not measure how late the movement happens. This can be referred to as depth on a breaking ball.
