It was another talented VISAA tournament that displayed talent all over the diamond. Here are a few standout performers that showed well throughout the VISAA tournament.
Cape Henry

Reid Downs OF / LHP / CAPE HENRY COLLEGIATE SCHOOL, VA / 2025Downs impacted the Dolphins offense throughout the VISAA DI tournament as he jumpstarted the offense in the middle of the order as a spark plug. He tallied four hits in two games including a three hit performance against a talented Miller team. His ability to spray the ball to all fields and use his speed was impactful throughout the tournament.

Colin Lebel RHP / SS / Cape Henry Collegiate, VA / 2025The two-way ability was shown throughout the tournament as Lebel was impactful on the mound as well as at the plate. He got the start in the first tournament game and worked into the sixth inning picking up nine strikeouts and only giving up two earned runs. In the two games he picked up four hits and four runs batted in the contribute to the offense. The ability to find different ways to contribute to the team was important in this tournament and throughout the spring.

Harley Matela OF / RHP / Cape Henry Collegiate, VA / 2028For a freshman being in a competitive setting against some high-end talent, Matela looked really comfortable throughout the tournament. It was a multi-hit tournament as he turned in some competitive at-bats against some quality arms. He showed adjustability and confidence to hit in any count. There is offensive upside to go along with the present ability that showed well during the tournament.

Greenbrier Christian Academy

Thomas Conrad OF / 3B / Greenbrier Christian, VA / 2025If you are looking for someone that can impact the game and be a headache to opposing pitchers then this is your guy. He was impactful in the leadoff spot for the Gators as he was ability to find his way on base and create havoc. He picked up multiple hits in the tournament and was an immediate threat on the basepaths. He stole five bases in two games and was always a problem for pitchers and catchers when he got on base. He is the guy that if you let him get on base you can expect the wheels to get going and find himself in scoring position in just a few pitches.

Highland School
|
Benjamin Cardone C / SS / Highland School, VA / 2025Cardone was one of the toughest outs to get throughout the VISAA DII tournament. He had six hits with two of them being homeruns throughout the tournament. He was aggressive at the plate and showed his ability to impact the baseball with multiple extra base hits. He is the guy that plays hard with versatility that is willing to do whatever it takes to get the win. When he steps on the field, he is one to keep an eye on throughout the game because of the energy and passion he plays with.

Joey Rogers / RHP / Highland, VA / 2025Rogers was a staple at the top of the order for the Hawks in the tournament as he racked up seven hits in three games. He got the offense started and found his way on base to help produce some offense for the Hawks. At shortstop he made plays consistently up the middle as throughout the tournament. It was a strong tournament for the senior as he finishes his career with a state title.

Justin Summers C / 1B / HIGHLAND SCHOOL, VA / 2025It was a strong offensive showing throughout the VISAA DII tournament for Summers as he had multiple hits in each game of the tournament. Being one of the big bats in the Highland offense, he played a big role being a run producer in the heart of the order with four runs batted in during the tournament. It was some of the offensive production that was needed to help win the state title.

Miller School

Mandela Browman OF / Miller School of Albemarle, VA / 2026Browman has tools that are game changing and he used every single one of them throughout the VISAA tournament. He had multiple hits including three extra base hits. His speed was on display on the basepaths and in the outfield tracking down baseballs for outs. He showed patience at the plate with good pitch recognition drawing three walks and having zero strikeouts. His ability to impact the game is evident and it helped the Mavericks capture the VISAA DI state title.

Evan Hankins 1B / LHP / Miller School, VA / 2025It was a strong showing for Hankins as he put on an offensive clinic in the VISAA tournament. He totaled seven hits including a four hit game in the championship game. He was able to impact the baseball and be a run producer with ten runs batted in in three games. The future Volunteer capped off his senior season with a big time playoff performance.

Drew Lucy C / Miller School of Albemarle, VA / 2025It was a strong VISAA tournament for Lucy has he tallied seven hits. He brought an aggressive approach to the plate and took advantage of the pitches that were made. He was strong behind the dish as well as being a leader and handling the pitching staff throughout. Throughout the spring he's been a reliable backstop and the offense thrived in the big moments to help capture a state championship.

Paul VI

Carter Perdue RHP / 3B / Paul VI, VA / 2026It was another spectacular outing from Perdue as we are used to seeing in the VISAA DI semifinals. He carved his way through the St. Christopher's lineup for seven strong innings in the complete game shutout. He had the slider working that had late depth generating some swings and misses. He is the guy that you want to give the ball in big games because he has the stuff and competitive edge that gives you a chance to win.

William Hurt SS / C / St. Christopher's, VA / 2025Enter Analysis Here It was a strong showing in the VISAA tournament from Hurt as he continued to tear the cover off the ball as he did all spring. He picked up four hits in two games including a big hit in the quarterfinals that helped them beat Flint Hill in the late innings. The offensive has been consistent throughout the spring and has stepped up in the big moments for the Saints.

Walsingham Academy
|
Chandler Howlett SS / 2B / WALSINGHAM ACADEMY, VA / 2027Howlett was instant offense at the top of the order for the Trojans throughout the tournament. He brought high energy and excitement to the offense that was a threat on the basepaths when he got on. Defensively he was the man up the middle and made plays to help out his pitcher on the way to their seventh straight state title.

Matthew Swanson RHP / 3B / Walsingham, VA / 2026Swanson got the ball in the VISAA DIII championship game and threw a gem. He threw a complete game and picked up twelve strikeouts. He attacked the strike zone early and often and made his way through the Life Christian lineup. It was the outing that the Trojans were looking for as they captured another state championship.
