Unsigned Upperclass Spotlight: SS/OF Hurley Soong
May 11, 2025
The high school season is coming to a close as players now shift their focus to the summer circuit. The 2025 preseason showcase schedule featured the first-ever Hawaii Preseason Invitational—an eight-team tournament to kick off the year that saw all positional players run through a pro-style workout alongside our tech partners, while we also collected updated TrackMan pitching data on all arms during gameplay.
Our staff had eyes on over 100 players, and with the summer just around the corner, there is still a ton of quality uncommitted talent available in Hawaii’s upperclassman group. Over the next couple of weeks, our staff will begin highlighting some of these names who need to be on the radar of college coaches as the summer gets underway.
We continue our Top Uncommitted Upperclass Spotlight Series with '26 SS/OF Hurley Soong out of the Waiakea High School program. Soong is a versatile athlete who shows clean actions at multiple positions. He has also ran his fastball up to 85.5mph off the mound. The switch hitter will certainly be a player to keep an eye on as he gets ready for his summer season.

Scouting Report
Switch-hitting, tooled-out, true DI SS's are few and far between. As a DI recruiting coordinator, you're excited to say the least when you find one. That's Hurley Soong. Plus-athlete with plus-plus projection who could end up with above-average to plus tools across-the-boards.
Love the actions at SS but arm is his best tool. Excellent arm action with 86 infield velo with minimal effort at 5-11/155. Easy to project 90+ and a plus arm. Always stands out at Prep Baseball Hawaii's events during the defensive portion as the player who looks like a true SS and everything is slower for him.
Defense is slightly ahead of the bat but there's a lot to like offensively. Soong already possesses a good swing both sides, add strength to the frame of the most projectable 2026 Hawaii SS and MLB scouts start taking notice.
DI coaches know who Soong is after a eventful 2024 summer and fall with Big Island Wood Bat Academy and circled him as a potential spring or summer DI offer guy.
