Texas Scout Blog: Standouts from Across the State
High school baseball in Texas is special. The combination of talent, competition, and passion for the game is unmatched anywhere else in the country. From the packed stands on Friday nights to the year-round grind that players put in to get better, baseball isn’t just a sport here—it’s part of the culture.
At Prep Baseball Texas, we’re out at the ballparks watching the best the state has to offer, and each week in the Texas Scout Blog, we’ll highlight the players who stood out. Whether it’s a top-ranked commit showing why he’s one of the best in the country, an uncommitted prospect making a name for himself, or an under-the-radar player who demands attention, we’ll shine a light on those making an impact.
This isn’t about box scores—it’s about recognizing the guys who are stepping up when the lights are on. Texas high school baseball is as good as it gets, and we’re here to make sure the players proving it get the attention they deserve.
Check back each week to see who caught our eye across the Lone Star State.
WEEK 13
Wyatt Powell
Position: RHP
School: Lutheran South Academy (2026)
Commitment: Uncommitted
Wyatt Powell, an uncommitted right-hander for Lutheran South Academy, had a dominant performance in his final high school start of the season. The 2026 prospect threw 6 innings of shutout ball, punching out 5 and allowing 0 runs. Powell has been the leader of the LSA staff this season, with his fastball sitting in the upper 80s and touching low 90s. He shows the ability to sink his fastball at the bottom of the zone, and his slider serves as a reliable swing-and-miss pitch.
With a projectable frame, Powell has the tools to continue to develop into a starter at the next level. His command and ability to generate weak contact have been standout traits, and he continues to improve with each outing. Expect Powell to be a highly sought-after arm this summer as he continues to rise on the radar.
