May 28, 2025
Now that the 2025 high school season has come to an end, we’ve decided to roll out a post-spring update to our Class of 2027 Louisiana Player Rankings, with some subtle shifts inside the list, which has now expanded to 210 prospects. With the summer season looming, we’ve decided to give a snapshot of the Top-10 and a look at some players who had a big spring.
As always, our evaluation process is fluid and ongoing, built on multiple viewings and discussions to get the most accurate feel for each player’s abilities. It’s worth noting that while some players show rapid improvement, this doesn’t suggest that others have regressed—player development is simply a journey with peaks and valleys. As the season unfolds, new names will continue to surface, expanding the universe of top prospects in the Bayou State. In addition to our player evaluations, our scouts—both in-state and nationally—have been in constant dialogue, comparing notes and making adjustments based on the latest insights to ensure the rankings are as up-to-date and accurate as possible.

BIG SPRING PERFORMANCES IN THE TOP-10
Lawton Littleton OF / LHP / Alfred M. Barbe High School, LA / 2027The 6’2”, 165-pound southpaw has claimed the top spot in the state after a dominant spring campaign for the Bucs. Littleton went 10-2 on the mound, with his only two losses coming against powerhouse Lutheran South Academy (TX) and eventual Division I (Non-Select) State Champion Sam Houston—a game in which he allowed just two hits. He finished the season with a sparkling 0.76 ERA and an eye-popping 111 strikeouts to just 25 walks. Littleton seemed to elevate his game with each outing, peaking in the playoffs where he sat 87-90 mph with his fastball, touching 91-92 mph, and pairing it with a sharp, mid-70s breaking ball that spun up to 2,800 RPMs. He also added a late-fading 78-80 mph changeup to round out a polished three-pitch arsenal. With his velocity, pitchability, and competitiveness, expect a busy summer ahead for one of the premier left-handers in the country.

Devyn Downs SS / RHP / Sterlington, LA / 2027The state’s top two-way threat capped off a stellar sophomore season by helping lead Sterlington to the Division III (Non-Select) State Championship. On the mound, Downs logged 33.1 innings, posting a 3-1 record with a 2.94 ERA, striking out 37 while issuing just 10 walks. Opponents managed only a .236 average against him. But it was at the plate where the LSU commit made his biggest impact. He slashed .366 on the year with 4 home runs, 16 doubles, 2 triples, 40 RBIs, and 57 runs scored—emerging as one of the most complete offensive players in the state, regardless of class.

Koa Romero 3B / RHP / Hahnville, LA / 2027The 5'10", 225-pound slugger burst onto the scene this spring and never looked back. Romero opened the season red-hot for the Tigers and maintained that pace throughout, finishing his sophomore campaign with a blistering .484 batting average, a .612 on-base percentage, and an eye-popping 1.493 OPS. He showcased elite bat-to-ball skills and serious power, launching 8 home runs, 11 doubles, and 3 triples, while driving in 31 runs and scoring 37 of his own. With his physical presence and production, Romero has firmly cemented himself as one of the most dangerous hitters in the state.

Owen Galley 1B / RHP / Sam Houston, LA / 2027Rankings StateRank: 7 / POS: 1
The former Jr. Future Gamer was instrumental in helping Sam Houston capture the Division I (Non-Select) State Championship and was deservedly named the Most Outstanding Player of this year’s State Tournament. During the Broncos’ playoff run, Galley posted a 1.57 ERA over 31.2 innings, tallying 18 strikeouts and delivering steady performances on the mound. He also came up big at the plate when it mattered most, going 4-for-7 in the three-game championship series against Live Oak. His most memorable moment came in Game 2, when he delivered a walk-off RBI single to complete the Broncos’ dramatic come-from-behind win and swing momentum back in their favor.
