2025 WA Scout Blog - Eastlake, Issaquah, Sumner, Curtis
May 26, 2025
The 2025 Washington Scout Blog provides information and scouting notes from Prep Baseball staff during the WIAA sesason. The running blog will feature information on underclass prospects, unsigned seniors, draft prospects and other notable performers. The Scout Blog is compiled of content and information gathered only from Prep Baseball staff. All featured games in the Scout Blog were attended by staff.
This weekend, Prep Baseball was in attendance for three 4A state playoff games, with the winner of the regional group advancing to the state semifinals in Yakima next weekend. The four playoff sides produced great, tight games, with Eastlake ultimately winning two games and advancing. Below are scouting notes on some of the players that performed well from each playoff team.
Eastlake
'26 LHP Rodrigo Montano (Uncommitted)
The lefty has been Eastlake's best arm for much of this season and got the start in their first game of the state playoffs against Curtis on Saturday. A medium-framed athlete with a calm, steady demeanor, Montano was in control through 5 innings of work, exiting after throwing just 70 pitches. FB was live early, topping out at 85 MPH, but settled more into the 79-81 MPH range as the game went on. Simple operation from the stretch throughout the whole game. Mixed in a CB/CH offspeed combination but was mostly FB reliant. Final line: 5 IP, H, 0 R, 2 BB, 3 K. The lefty also hit in the two-hole for both of Eastlake's games and reached base three times with a patient approach at the dish. Standout performer that will be a key player for the Wolves in Yakima.

'26 C/DH Larson Kohlmann (Uncommitted)
The junior has found a home in the cleanup spot in the back half of the season and was Eastlake's most consistent offensive player on Saturday. Kohlmann was the only player with multiple hits in game one, finishing 2-3 with a pair of singles, and he singled and scored a run in game two as well. The righty appeared to have added some strength in a look this winter, and the increased physicality really translated in-game. Kohlmann found the barrel with an easy RH stroke, producing loud contact to all fields. Another key bat as Eastlake advances.

'25 RHP/OF Dominic Miller (Uncommitted)
Miller produced both on the mound and at the plate, and was a key in Eastlake's second win in particular. The senior went 1-2 in both games, driving in a run and scoring in the second game as well. Physical, uphill RH swing found some holes and worked counts well. The righty also pitched the final 1.1 innings in relief against Issaquah to secure a close 4-2 win. Longer, continuous arm path with 3/4 slot release kept the opposition at bay for a scoreless appearance. Well-rounded showing.
'25 RHP/INF Cody O'Donnell (Everett CC Commit)
Another staple for the Wolves for multiple years now, O'Donnell got the nod on the mound in game two, and flashed stuff that has brought him success consistently. FB sat in the low 80's and was mostly on the edges, paired with a CB in the upper 60's that was leaned on heavily. Compact arm action with 3/4 slot release hides the ball well with a balanced, upright finish. Was held quiet at the plate, but has been a steady contributor this spring.
'26 OF Jayden Matsuoka (Uncommitted)
Speedy centerfielder was arguably the most impressive defender of the day, with multiple ranging plays in the gaps covering a ton of ground. Matsuoka also delivered one of the biggest hits of the afternoon with a 2 RBI triple lined down the RF line in game two. The compact-framed junior provided a spark from the bottom of the order, going 2-2 and scoring a run in a lower-scoring affair. Played with aggression and energy that was needed in a playoff environment.

Issaquah
'25 RHP/INF Hudson Carvalho (Oregon Commit)
The Oregon commit was one half of arguably the best pitching matchup of any playoff game, pitching against Sumner in the first game of the day. Carvalho's live arm continued to impress after multiple looks by Prep Baseball staff this spring. The FB topped out at 91.3 MPH, mostly sitting 88-89 MPH early and 86-87 MPH as the game went on. Struggled with walks at times but still found a way to grind through 5.1 IP while allowing just one earned run. Longer, quick arm action with athletic delivery and 3/4 slot release. Carvalho was also the offensive star for Issaquah all day, going 1-2 with an RBI triple and 2 walks in game one and 2-2 with a double, RBI, run, and 2 walks in game two. Incredible performance in the final HS games of his career.

'25 INF Charlie Lydum (Columbia Basin Commit)
Corner INF type delivered RBI hits in both games for the Eagles, producing from the middle part of the order. Quick stride load with handsy RH swing lined balls to all fields. Made several great plays defensively at 3B with above average arm strength from the position. Reached base three total times on Saturday, and was a key part of a big 7th inning that secured the first Issaquah victory. Impactful showing.
'25 RHP Raghav Madan (St. Peter's Commit)
Despite some mixed results, the second arm of the Issaquah staff kept his team in it for much of the game against Eastlake. FB sat 82-85 MPH as the righty generated plus extension down the mound. Lower posture with heavy bend at the hips through release and follow, with high 3/4 arm slot. Flashed a SL in the low-mid 70's as his primary offspeed delivery. Worked 4.2 innings as the starter in game two, working around traffic throughout the day.

'27 INF Seika Saito (Uncommitted)
While the sophomore won't post triple digit exit velocities or be the flashiest of players, Saito continued his great season by doing a ton of little things exceptionally well and playing a winning brand of baseball. The contact-oriented lefty bat reached base twice in each of Issaquah's games, notching 3 singles and a walk total. Short, direct bat path found the barrel, showing why Saito was reaching base at over a .440 clip this season. Rangy defender profiles well to 2B with compact, twitchy frame and developing arm. Positive showing after a quality season.
'25 OF/RHP Mason Uchimura (Uncommitted)
Lean, long-limbed senior was all over the box score in both of Issaquah's games this weekend. Went 2-4 with a walk in game one and 1-3 with a walk in game two, setting the tone consistently from the leadoff spot. Plus runner also scored 3 runs across the two contests. The righty also came in to relief and earned the win on the mound in game one, throwing 1.2 hitless innings with a low 80's FB out of the bullpen.
Sumner
'27 OF/RHP Wyatt Plyler (Uncommitted)
The third ranked player in the Washington 2027 class, Plyler got the nod on the mound and turned in a solid performance over the weekend. FB topped out at 88.5 MPH, sitting 85-88 MPH throughout. Also mixed in a SL in the low 70's to keep hitters off-balance. Worked around some command issues at times and got out of some tough jams, limiting the damage to just 2 runs over 5 innings of work. Also struck out 8 while walking 4. The righty bat also reached base three times from the leadoff spot, singling and walking twice. The multi-sport athlete has been a workhorse for the Spartans this season and will be a must-follow heading into the summer.

'26 INF/RHP Xander Cypher (Uncommitted)
Primarily an arm for much of his high school career, Cypher showed his versatility on Saturday, going 2-4 with a pair of hard-hit singles. Righty bat starts in a loose, balanced setup, showcasing a flatter path through the zone with adjustability in the swing. The junior DH'ed in this look but has enough athleticism and arm strength to play in the infield moving forward.

'27 INF Jake Miller (Uncommitted)
The sophomore has turned in a nice season in his first year of varsity action, finding various ways to impact the game. Was held hitless by a tough arm in this one, but did manage to drive in a run with a deep sac fly for Sumner's first run. Twitchy lefty swing plays to all fields with an uphill path. Hard-nosed, gritty approach to the game with range and arm to play any INF position. Average runner. Underclassman will be a key contributor as a part of a great sophomore class for the Spartans.
'28 INF Cameron Westerdahl (Uncommitted)
The Prep Baseball JFG alum was the lone freshman to start in Sumner's matchup with Issaquah, and looked far from overmatched against a D-1 opposing arm. Lefty made adjustments and fouled off tough pitches, doing a nice job staying within himself. Upright posture at contact from LH side. Finished 1-2 with a BB. Had a couple of tough breaks defensively at 3B, but should continue to develop as frame continues to fill out. Freshman will be another contributor for Sumner in the future.
Curtis
'27 RHP Cooper Hordyk (Uncommitted)
On a day where the Curtis offense was held scoreless, Hordyk did everything in his power to keep his team in it, turning in a complete game performance on the mound. The sophomore had just 1 strikeout over 6 innings of work, but induced soft contact all game and allowed just 4 hits and 1 run overall. FB sat 81-84 MPH with some sink at times from a 3/4 slot release. 11/5 CB at 68-70 MPH was only secondary offering. Both pitches had downward action with depth and missed barrels, resulting in a ton of contact on the ground. Needed just 74 pitches to work through 6 innings. Standout performance after another impressive outing earlier this spring seen by Prep Baseball.

'27 INF Harlan Carrillo (Uncommitted)
The physical sophomore had one of just two hits for Curtis, with a barrelled double deep into the LCF gap as the highlight of the day for the Vikings. Taller athlete carries a heavier barrel through the zone, using frame to generate some raw power. Finished the game 1-2 with a BB. Carrillo DH'ed in this game, but is a primary infielder with ability to stick at a corner at the next level.

'26 LHP/1B Bradley Dinelt (Lower Columbia Commit)
One of the Vikings' best arms this spring, Dinelt made his impact as a position player on Saturday, lining one of two hits for Curtis while playing a sound 1B defensively. The switch hitter made his impact felt early on in the game, forcing Eastlake to make a pitching change later in a tight contest. Simple approach from both sides shown. Lefty glove made every play that came his way defensively and was kept busy throughout.
