Uncommitted Spotlight: 2026 Southpaws

Tanner Post LHP / ILLIANA CHRISTIAN HIGH SCHOOL, IN / 2026

+ I caught Post’s third start of the spring vs Westview on a Saturday afternoon and I really liked what I saw. Post put on noticeable strength in the off-season and he now stands 6-foot-3, 215 pounds. He pitched at 86-89 mph his entire seven innings of work and even reached 89 into the fifth inning - the fastball played with carry. The southpaw showed three solid off-speed offeries, the best being a 78-80 mph changeup with late fading action that he showed a lot of confidence in. He also showed a tight slider at 77-79 mph and a curveball with slightly more depth at 75-77 mph. Post was confident in landing both early in counts to both righties and lefties. The delivery is repeatable, he lifts to an athletic inward turn with a simple move down the slope. The arm works with quickness to an over-the-top slot on the backside. In total, I liked the potential starters mix and the ability to hold velocity for the entirety of his outing.

Kaden Maxwell LHP / Andrean, IN / 2026

+ Maxwell was a huge winner from our Fall State Games in October and came back even better in this look. He used below-moderate effort while pitching with a balanced, in-line delivery. The arm action is short but he keeps the ball moving to produce an 86-88 T89 mph fastball that played with carry (17" IVB). He shows feel to manipulate shape w spin, showing a sharper, 73-74 mph sweeper & also a big, two-plane shaped, mid-60s curveball. The slider is the better of the two breaking balls, but the curveball tunnels best with the heater, it just needs to firm up at this point. The 75-76 changeup is a usable pitch and rounds out a solid 4-pitch mix. Maxwell continues to polish & is one of the top uncommitted lefties left within this uber-talented 2026 class.

Troy Barrett LHP / Chesterton Senior High School, IN / 2026

+ I loved my look at the southpaw in a conference matchup with LaPorte. Barrett is one of the most consistent strike-throwers in the state at 5-foot-9, 160 pounds and he poured in strikes with multiple pitches in this look. The fastball sat 85-87 the first two innings and he settled in at 83-85 the next 4.2 innings – it played with carry and flashed arm-side run at times. My favorite pitch was the 76-78 mph changeup, thrown with fastball arm-speed and dropping off the table late. He was comfortable throwing it in most counts. Barrett also showed feel to land his 74-77 mph breaking ball for strikes and induce swing-and-miss when needed – the pitch showed 2/8 shape. The delivery is balanced throughout, he lifts to a taller balance point before an athletic move down the slope with in-line shoulders present. The arm works clean on the backside to a ¾ slot. I love the pitch-ability with Barrett, he’s confident to throw any pitch in pretty much any count and the velocity is starting to tick.

Cam Truxal LHP / Gibson Southern, IN / 2026

+ Truxal, a wiry, undersized, 5-foot-10 southpaw, showed polish with command of all of his pitches and a low ease of operation. He pitched with a low-80s fastball that played with ride/run properties, while showing feel to manipulate shape and command a tightly-spun, low-70s breaking ball. 

 Spring '25 stats: 28 IP, 21 H, 2.50 ERA, 5 BB, 30 K.

Griffin Morgan LHP / Bluffton High School, IN / 2026

+ Griffin Morgan is a 6-foot-2, 205-pound left-hander with a physical frame and raw athleticism. He works with a cross-stride delivery that creates some deception, pairing a loose arm with average control. His fastball sits 83–86 (T86) with some ride through the zone (T2051 rpm), while the 73–75 mph curveball plays with depth. The slider at the same velo range spins well (T2414 rpm) and flashes swing-and-miss potential. He rounds out the mix with a 76–79 mph changeup that mirrors fastball intent and shows occasional fade.

Clay Austin LHP / OF / Floyd Central High School, IN / 2026

+ '26 LHP/OF Clay Austin (Floyd Central) was the biggest winner on the Indiana side, showcasing a clean left arm that establishes a safe floor. The compact, 6-foot, 200 pounder uses a simple delivery that is balanced, and creates abv avg hip-to-shoulder separation to allow the arm to whip thru with a fastball that sat 84-85. He showed some spin manipulation with a low-70s CB & SL, both abv avg pitches in their own regards. His 75-77 split was well-executed with some later dive to round out a solid four-pitch mix. There was at least abv avg feel shown for all pitches to leave starters' upside. Offensively, the stocky right-handed hitter showed off above average bat speed with exits reaching 97-plus to go along with an 87 mph outfield arm.

Louis Gage LHP / Andrean, IN / 2026

+ Gage is younger for the grade with an immature looking, 6-foot-4, 185 pound frame. There is all-kinds of upside, beginning with a clean, lower intent delivery followed by an arm that works uninterrupted on a shorter path, getting to a 3/4 slot at release. His fastball sat 83-85 with slight arm-side run and he showed feel for spin. He showed two breaking balls, a 72-73 slider that spun in 2200s with bigger sweep, and a big curveball that he showed feel to land at 66-67. His upper-70s change is still developing to this point. There is real upside in this region-area lefty, another close follow for our staff on this intriguing 2025 Andrean squad. 

Jack Levin LHP / OF / Jasper, IN / 2026

+ Uncommitted. Very dominant start of Tuesday to kickoff bracket play. He threw a seven inning complete game shutout with a no hitter through five innings. He came out controlling the zone with a fastball and curveball with an occasional change up. His fastball was 81-84, T 85 curveball was 69-71 with good break and his change up was 74-75. He was very efficient as he rarely got deep into counts and generated a lot of weak contact. Final stat line: 7IP/3H/0ER/1BB/3SO.

Ethan Kang LHP / Noblesville High School, IN / 2026

‘26 Ethan Kang (@eakang2007) is an intriguing junior southpaw that Noblesville brought out the ‘pen.

6’2” 200 lbs w some projection left, lower slot adds deception.
