Group 1 State Tournament: Day 1 Wrap Up

Day one of the NJSIAA State Tournament wrapped up with plenty of excitement across all brackets. Each bracket featured eight games, narrowing the field down to just eight teams remaining in each. The opening round delivered its fair share of upsets, as lower-seeded teams rose to the occasion and knocked off favorites. There were also standout performances from both teams and individual players, setting the tone for what promises to be an intense and competitive tournament. The action picks back up tomorrow with the quarterfinal round, as the remaining teams look to take one step closer to the ultimate goal: winning three more games and being crowned state champion. Today, we will be taking a look at the results from yesterday's group 1 games.
NORTH 1 BRACKET
+ In the North 1 bracket, 14th seeded Kittatinny upset 3rd seeded Hasbrouch Heights, 7-2. Kittatinny will move on to play sixth seeded Indian Hills on Thursday. 10th seeded Mountain Lakes upended 7th seeded Emerson, 4-2.
NORTH 2 BRACKET
+ In the North 2 bracket, 12th seeded Wallington topped 5th seede Newark Tech, 5-1. Tyler Perry went the distance, striking out 8 and allowing just three hits. In another upset, 10th seeded New Providence beat Hoboken, 6-0.
CENTRAL BRACKET
+ In the Central bracket, ninth seeded South Hunterdon pummeled eighth seeded Dunellen, 13-3. Third seeded Metuchen mercied Keansburg 10-0, Lucas Malamug went five strong innings, striking out 11.
SOUTH BRACKET
+ In the South, 10th seeded Glassboro blanked Riverside, 4-0. Jude Dempster went six innings and struck out nine and drive in a pair of runs at the plate.
