FORT MYERS, FL
– The 2025 FHSAA Class 3A Baseball State Championships at Hammond Stadium delivered a gripping three-game saga, with the Miami Springs Golden Hawks emerging as champions through a blend of explosive offense, clutch pitching, and unwavering resilience. Getting past South Walton, Hernando, and Bishop Verot, the Golden Hawks showcased their depth and determination, culminating in a nail-biting title win that lit up the Fort Myers night.=

Semifinal: South Walton vs. Hernando

The journey began on Monday, May 12, as the South Walton Seahawks faced the Hernando Leopards in a semifinal clash that turned into an offensive onslaught. South Walton wasted no time, erupting for five runs in the first inning, sparked by Coleman Borthwick’s double, Braxton Varnes’ sacrifice fly, and Hudson Quinn’s three-RBI single. The Seahawks piled on six more runs in the second, with singles from Varnes, Jackson Perkins, Jace Cunningham, and Frank Wells pushing the lead to 11-0.

The third inning saw South Walton add three more runs, courtesy of another error and Quinn’s RBI double, while Hernando managed two runs in the fourth on Austin Knierim’s home run.

Denton Lord earned the win, allowing two runs on four hits over four innings with two strikeouts. The Seahawks sealed the 17-2 rout and headed to the State Championship.

Semifinal:
Miami Springs vs. Bishop Verot

In the other semifinal, the Miami Springs Golden Hawks faced the Bishop Verot Vikings, leaning on a massive fifth inning to secure a 12-2 victory. Miami Springs struck first in the second, with Magdiel Estevez hit by a pitch and Jordany Gonzalez drawing a walk, each plating a run for a 2-0 lead. The game broke open in the fifth, as singles by Taylor Ancheta, Kelven Perera, Roydan Perez, and Gonzalez, and Estevez’s double fueled a seven-run outburst, pushing the lead to 9-0.

Perera capped the scoring with a three-run homer to left field in the sixth, finishing with five RBIs on two hits. Kevin Roque earned the win, allowing two runs on four hits over six innings with seven strikeouts.

Bishop Verot’s Joey Lawson drove in two runs with a fifth-inning homer, but it wasn't enough as Miami Springs would come out on top and head to the State Final to face South Walton.

Final:
Miami Springs vs. South Walton

On Tuesday, May 13, Miami Springs and South Walton clashed for the Class 3A title in a pitcher’s duel that kept fans on the edge of their seats. Magdiel Estevez took the mound for the Golden Hawks and delivered a masterpiece, tossing a complete seven innings, allowing one run on two hits, striking out six, and walking four to earn the win. South Walton’s Braxton Varnes was equally sharp, surrendering one run on three hits over two innings with three strikeouts, but took the loss.

Miami Springs struck first in the second, as Taylor Ancheta’s solo home run to right field gave them a 1-0 lead. South Walton answered in the later innings, with Cameron Tipton-Thomas driving in a run to tie the game at 1-1. But the Golden Hawks regained the lead, capitalizing on a clutch hit to secure a 2-1 victory. Roydan Perez led the offense, going 2-for-3, while Ancheta and Yordan Torres each drove in a run.

South Walton’s Quinn and Borthwick each had a hit, but Estevez’s dominance limited their opportunities and led the Golden Hawks to a State Championship win.
