Wisconsin Class of 2027 Rankings Updated

After a busy winter circuit and nearly all of the WIAA season, we updated the Wisconsin’s Class of 2027 rankings — expanding the board to 75 players in the process.
This group has taken clear steps forward since we last checked in, and with more live looks under our belt, we’ve made some notable adjustments at the top. Today, we’re breaking down some of the biggest risers and key names inside the top-25 as this sophomore class continues to take shape.
A NEW NO. 1
+ C Logan Hagman (Hudson) has broken out as one of the top hitters in the state regardless of class, while looking like a capable defender behind the dish the entire spring. The frame stands out, at the plate the Hagman swings one of the strongest right-handed bats in the state with seemingly easy strength. Defensively, Hagman has gained confidence throughout the spring and is capable of sticking behind the plate long term.
Underclass Blog Scout: “Uncommitted, one of the top sophomores in the Midwest, standing at a physical 6-foot, 197 pounds with strength throughout the frame. Started behind the plate and hit fourth for Hudson, going 4-for-4 with three RBIs, two doubles, a home run and scored three runs. At the plate, the right-handed hitter routinely finds the barrel and drives the baseball hard and in the air with authority. Easy and simple swing with easy power, quiet working in sync throughout with strong and loose wrists to pair with a natural hand trigger. Defensively behind the plate, Hagman is a strong receiver and athlete out of the crouch with more than enough arm strength to continue to provide strong defense moving forward.”
NEW LOOK TOP-10
+ INF Cooper Schaefgen (Oconomowoc, Louisville) true hitter with both bat-to-ball and a patient approach while showing more feel to lift the ball in the air this spring. The actions have ticked up defensively, while looking more comfortable at third with plenty of arm to stick at the position.
Underclass Scout Blog: “Louisville commit, a top player in the state’s sophomore class. Listed at 6-foot-1, 219 pounds with proportional strength to the build. Hit third and started on the mound for the Raccoons. One of the top pure hitters in the Midwest, Schaefgen routinely finds the barrel and drives the ball with authority. Driving a couple of balls to the warning track in center field, only coming up with one hit to show for it however. Simple and balanced swing from the right-side with easy power and natural bat-to-ball traits that only add to the profile offensively.”
+ MIF Kyle Rogosienski (Muskego) is a twitchy athlete with a ceiling both offensively and defensively. At the plate the left-handed hitter has shown bat speed and feel to use the entire field while hitting both right and left handed pitching this spring. Defensively Rogosienski has enough range and arm strength to stick on the left-side and has the foot speed to play shortstop.
Underclass Scout Blog: “Uncommitted, one of the top sophomores in the Midwest, standing at an athletic and twitchy 5-foot-11, 163 pounds with room to add to the frame. Started at shortstop and hit leadoff for Muskego, going 2-for-5, one hit came off of one of the top left-handers in the class, with three RBIs and a stolen base. At the plate, the left-handed hitter swings an upside bat with feel to go the other way. Defensively, Rogosienski is an athletic defender with range and arm strength to stick on the left-side.”
+ C Jack Spielmann (Milton) is an athletic left-handed hitting catcher, with a high ceiling at the plate and defensively. Spielmann has shown increased feel to elevate the ball while driving the ball with more authority this spring. Defensively Spielmann looks the part of a future asset defensively with catch and throw traits.
Underclass Scout Blog: “Uncommitted, one of the top sophomores in the state’s sophomore class and in the Midwest, standing at 6-foot-1, 176 pounds with lean strength and room to add to the frame. At the plate, the left-handed hitter collected two RBIs. In the first inning, he got Milton on the board early with a line-drive single to center field. He features a smooth, fluid swing with consistent barrel control. Behind the plate, he is a clean blocker with athleticism out of the crouch with clean and steady hands with a strong arm behind the dish.”
+ RHP/OF Ira Hilbelink (Cedar Grove-Belgium) a true two-way with an equally high ceiling on both sides of the ball. Hilbelink has been a standout on both sides of the ball all spring, on the mound the fastball has been up to 89 this spring, topping out at 90.5 mph over the winter, while showing feel for his arsenal and the zone. At the plate the right-hander works in rhythm with ease showing feel to lift the ball in the air consistently this spring, while having to play a number of positions defensively, and playing them well.
Underclass Scout Blog: “Uncommitted, a rising player in the state’s sophomore class, one of the top players in the region with real two-way upside, athletic with strength, standing at 5-foot-11, 188 pounds. Hilbelink started on the mound and struck out 11 batters across five innings, allowing two runs and walking four. Athletic mover on the mound with an easy and controlled delivery. The arm action stands out, clean, low effort with whip throwing each pitch out of the same window. Hilbelink ran his fastball up to 89 mph, sitting 85-88 mph with life out of the hand, spinning a sharp and big breaking ball in the low-70s earning swing and miss in and out of the zone. Flashing a running changeup that he would throw to both handed batters, sitting 79-81 mph.”
+ MIF Cooper Sievert (Wisconsin Lutheran) has been one of the top hitters in the state regardless of class this spring. Upping his production as a sophomore hitting over .400 while leading his team in RBIs and walking more than he’s striking out and becoming the full-time shortstop this spring. The sophomore is already an advanced defender at shortstop and should continue to be an asset defensively moving forward. At the plate, the right-handed hitter has shown easy feel for the barrel while flashing the ability to adjust.
Underclass Scout Blog: “Sievert would go 1-for-3 with a 2-run home run during Wisconsin Lutheran's first game on Saturday. The right-handed hitter was taking controlled, aggressive swings throughout the game with clear intent in all of his at-bats. A pure gamer who also showed above-average at shortstop, Sievert is a must-know name in Wisconsin's 2027 class. 5-foot-11, 180-pound frame with present strength.”
+ MIF Ryan Rose (West Bend West) one of the top athletes in the state, standing at a physical 6-foot-1, 190 pound frame with strength throughout the frame. The left-handed hitting shortstop has taken strides as a hitter this spring, making more consistent contact while flashing more power in game. Defensively Rose is a steady defender with enough range and arm strength to stick on the left-side of the field.
+ RHP Carter Gordon (Germantown) powerful and athletic, showing improved feel to pitch this spring. Clean and athletic delivery with feel to repeat, always attacking hitters with an arsenal that flashes power stuff. The fastball was up to 91 multiple times early this spring, showing a firm complimentary breaking ball out of the window. Also one of the strongest right-handed hitters in the state with innate feel for leverage the ball in the air.
Underclass Scout Blog: “Uncommitted, one of the top right-handers in the state’s sophomore class, also one of the state’s top offensive linemen on the gridiron. Physical and athletic 6-foot-4 frame, durable with present strength as well. Got the ball to start the game for Germantown on a cold afternoon where the right-hander allowed one baserunner across five no-hit innings striking out nine of 16 batters. An athlete and competitor on the mound, working from a fluid delivery that he has feel to repeat in sync while pounding the zone and challenging hitters constantly. Two pitch mix in this look, mostly fastballs sitting 88-91 mph, locating throughout the zone with ease, Gordon would mix in a firm breaking ball with 11-5 action early. At the plate, Gordon is a strong middle-of-the-order bat with feel to elevate the ball with impact, easy bat strength from the right-side with natural feel for the barrel.”
+ C Grady Cheever (Germantown) is a true switch hitting catcher with advanced catch and throw traits. Lean and athletic with plenty of upside to the frame, Cheever has flashed advanced defensive capabilities that easy to dream on being above-average one day. There’s upside at the plate too, showing easy feel for the barrel on both sides and the ability to see and hit spin.
Underclass Scout Blog: “Uncommitted, one of the top players in the state’s sophomore class. Standing at an athletic and lean 6-foot-1, 153 pounds with clear room to add to the frame. Starting behind the plate for a second straight season and hitting fourth for Germantown. Cheever is one of the top catchers in the area with natural and quiet actions, has caught some of the top arms in the state the past two years with confidence. At the plate, the switch-hitter performed from both sides during this look, collecting hits from both sides, showing feel for the barrel from both sides with growing feel to impact the baseball more consistently.”
+ LHP Mark Susa (Hudson) clear upside to the 6-foot-4, 179-pound left-hander with advanced feel to pitch. The delivery is simple and easily repeatable, working athletic and clean to the plate with release metrics that add to an already easy to like arsenal. The fastball plays with easy life out of the hand, with the velocity trending in the right direction year to year with two complimentary secondaries that have upside of their own.
Underclass Scout Blog: “Uncommitted, expected to rise in the next rankings update as one of the state’s top left-handed pitching prospects. Listed at a long limbed and lean 6-foot-4, 179 pounds with clear room to add to the frame. Susa got the ball in game one, and struck out six batters across 5.1 innings in a closely contested game. An athletic on the mound with a simple and easily repeatable delivery, extending down the mound with an athletic and clean arm action. Three pitch mix in this look with a low-80s T84 mph fastball that he located in the zone, confident in a bigger sweeping breaking ball sitting 72-75 mph and flashing a changeup at 75. One of the top left-handers in the state, serving as the ace on one of the top programs in the state as a sophomore.”
TOP-25 RISERS
+ OF/LHP Kingston Grisolono (Kewaskum) is a left-handed hitter with tools and the ability to play all three spots in the outfield. Listen at a strong and physical 6-foot, 190-pound frame with strength throughout the frame. The bat-to-ball and approach stand out, on top of the still growing power production from the left side. Also feel to pitch on the mound with feel to spin two quality breaking balls to pair with a fastball that has been up to 88 mph. A name-to-follow heading into the summer circuit, one that could become a highly sought after two-way.
Underclass Scout Blog: “Uncommitted, one of the top sophomore’s in the state, currently listed at a physical 6-foot, 190-pound frame. Grisolono got the start in center field and hit third for Kewaskum, going 1-for-2 on the day with a double, two walks an RBI and a run scored while adding two stolen bases. Impressive look at the plate, quiet and patient approach, rarely expanding while never swinging and missing in the zone. Natural and hitterish look in the box, working in rhythm and with strength behind each swing. An asset as a base runner, with feel to take the extra bag and stealing both bases almost uncontended. Defensively the athlete and foot speed are enough for all three spots to pair with a strong arm that adds to the profile defensively.”
+ LHP Cal Schneider (New Berlin Eisenhower) is one of the top pitchers in the state, performing as one of the top arms in the state this spring after striking out 69 batters across 41 innings, while allowing one earned run on the season so far. Clear projection to the frame only adds to the intrigue, standing at 6-foot-1, 150 pounds with command of all three pitches. The velocity keeps trending in the right direction as well, adding nine mph to his max fastball velocity from last year to this year, while both secondaries flash swing and miss upside.
Underclass Scout Blog: “Uncommitted, one of the top performing pitchers in the state regardless of class, slated to rise in the next rankings update as one of the top left-handed pitchers in the class. Schneider got the ball to start the game and struck out nine batters across six shutout innings, walking two. The projectable 6-foot-1 left-hander routinely worked in the zone with his entire arsenal. Known for his pitchability the lefty worked in the low-80s T84 mph with his fastball with two secondaries, a curveball and changeup that play off each other with bigger action to each pitch. One of the top left-handers in the region with a history of performing in front of our staff.”
+ OF Carter Fry (Wisconsin Lutheran) is one of the top athletes in the class and moving up two spots, standing at a lean 5-foot-10, 148-pound frame with twitch. The right-handed hitter has been a top hitter in the class the past two years while continuing to improve his tools while producing and looking the part of a top of the order bat that has a chance to stick in center field.
Underclass Scout Blog: “Fry would continue to show a dynamic toolset that makes him one of the most intriguing names in Wisconsin's 2027 class. At the plate, the right-handed hitter would go 2-for-3 with a double and home run. With wiry strength and explosive hands through contact, Fry has the makings of a high-leverage bat. Additionally, the sophomore has evident acumen in center field with above-average range and routes thanks to his top-of-the-scale speed. A ton of projection in his 5-foot-10, 148-pound frame.”
+ LHP Mason Horn (Muskego) rises up three spots to No. 18, plenty of projectability in his frame and feel for all three of his offerings. Coming out of a 3/4 slot, there’s plenty of arm speed to go with his delivery, producing a lively fastball that plays with ease of the hand. The sophomore has shown repeated feel for the zone with his CB, as well a heavy-fading CH to round out the arsenal
Underclass Scout Blog: “Uncommitted, a rising left-hander in the state’s sophomore class. Standing at 6-foot, 167 pounds with clear room for added strength. Came on in relief, pitching through some traffic, while striking out three batters across the inning. An athlete on the mound, with feel to repeat while filling up the zone with two pitches. The fastball plays with life out of the hand, reaching the mid-80s at times while locating the pitch throughout the zone. Horn spins a low-70s breaking ball out of the same window while working off the fastball. A high follow left-hander in the state with feel to pitch.”
+ RHP Eli Dreier (Wisconsin Lutheran) up five spots to No. 24, strong and physical listed at 6-foot-2, 215 pounds, Dreier is a physical arm that moves down the mound with a clean and athletic delivery. He possesses one of the more lively fastballs in his class, and has been up to 91 with arm side run, the breaking ball has flashed like a potential swing and miss option giving the right-hander two potential bat misses pitches.
Underclass Scout Blog: “Uncommitted, one of the top right-handers in the state’s sophomore class, standing at 6-foot-2, 215 pounds with strength to the frame. Dreier came on in relief for the final inning and provided a loud look, striking out two batters during the frame and running his fastball up to 91 mph multiple times with carry and life through the zone. Attacking hitters with a heavy barrage of fastballs and spinning a late breaking and bigger breaking ball off the fastball in the low-70s.”
+ RHP Chase Wolter (Whitefish Bay) moves up one spot to No. 22. Wolter has been seen hitting 88 on the mound in South Milwaukee this winter, and features a simple delivery with clean arm actions down the mound. As for his secondaries, he offers a SL with some sweeping action, as well as a harder CH with late arm-side depth. Performing well while seeing an increased role this spring, the right-hander has an intriguing mix of current pitchability and ceiling to the stuff, making him a definite name-to-know heading into the summer circuit.
Underclass Scout Blog: “Uncommitted, one of the top performing sophomores in the state. Standing at a lean and wiry 6-foot-1, 175 pound frame with room for added strength. Wolter got the start on the mound and struck out seven batters across three innings. The fastball really plays for Wolter, sitting 84-86 mph with carry, missing multiple bats in the zone and picking up a number of whiffs throughout the outing. The slider was the go-to secondary, playing with bigger sweeping action in the low-70s, locating the pitch around the zone while flashing a firm changeup.
+ RHP/UTL Ethan Hellengreen (Neenah) a legitimate two-way prospect that slots in as the No. 23 player in the 2027 class, with plenty of potential on both sides of the ball. Hellengreen features a pitch mix that comes with plenty of spin, highlighted by a curveball that averaged 2600+ RPMS at the Green Bay Preseason ID earlier in the year. At the plate, Hellengreen features a quality blend of power and speed, clocking in a 6.95 60-yard dash to go with a 98 max EV while at the same event in Green Bay. One of the more intriguing athletes in the state's sophomore class with a high ceiling on either side of the ball while having the capability of playing anywhere on the diamond.
+ INF/OF Cooper Wendt (Muskego) finds himself moving up 16 spots in the 2027 rankings to No. 25, and is one of the more intriguing athletes in the class. At 5-foot-10, 160 pounds, the sophomore possesses a compact frame with broad shoulders, with plenty of room for added strength. We saw him turn in a 6.73 60-yard dash in Milwaukee earlier this year, as well as an impressive 97.4 max EV at the same event. Wendt features one of the more intriguing combinations of power and speed in the class and we look forward to seeing how he continues to develop. The foot speed, arm and increased pop at the plate have flashed in limited game looks this spring and will be a name our staff will continue to monitor throughout the summer circuit.
