New Jersey College World Series Preview

For the first time in years, New Jersey is making a serious mark on the college baseball map. Multiple programs from the state have earned their place in the College World Series, Rowan College Gloucester County has already been crowned National Champions earlier this week for the third straigh season, as Rowan, Kean, and Felician are all competing for the trophy this weekend. What started as a promising season has turned into a defining moment for college baseball in New Jersey, as these teams now find themselves competing on the sport’s biggest stage.
+ Rowan College Gloucester County (JUCO DIII):
The Roadrunners were crowned NJCAA Division III national champions for the third straight season on Wednesday after defeating Century College 16-1 and finishing the season with a 54-6 record and a 30-0 conference record. The Roadrunners slugged 72 home runs, had a .369 team batting average and scored 711 runs in 60 games. OF Matt Brunner (Red Bank Catholic, 2024) hit .416 with 89 hits, 15 doubles, three triples, six homers, drove in 63 and had nearly a .500 OBP (.498). OF RJ Mustaro (Gloucester Catholic, 2023) hit .503 with 80 hits, 20 doubles, one triple, and 11 homers. There were three players on the roster with 10+ homers and 55+ RBIs; Mustaro, Kyle McSorley (Old Bridge, 2023), and Nick Slogik (Bishop McDevitt PA, 2024). Slogik finished the year with 11 homers and 73 RBis while McSorley had 14 homers and 64 RBIs. On the mound, Landon Edwards (Kingsway Regional, 2023), Carson Magill (The King’s Christian, 2023), and Zach Stichweh (Don Bosco Prep, 2022) were the main three starters. Edwards tossed 57 innings, carrying a 2.68 ERA, striking out 88 and walking 26, also threw two complete games. Magill threw 54 innings, posting a 1.50 ERA, striking out 69 and walking 15, also threw two complete games and had an 8-0 record. Stichweh threw 43 innings, struck out 56, walked 17 and had a 4.19 ERA. Out of the bullpen, Zack Wallace was phenomenal posting a 2.02 ERA in 49 IP, striking out 72 and carried an 8-0 record. RCGC continues their success year after year and looks to make it four straight national championships next spring.
+ Kean University (Division III):
The Cougars are 40-9 and ranked #8 in the country. Keane finished with a 17-1 conference record. Although they did not win the NJAC tournament, they received an at-large bid to the Regionals and ran away with it, going undefeated in the Regional bracket and took two of three from seventh ranked Salve Regina in the Super Regional round. The Cougars now look to take on #4 Endicott in the World Series bracket today. OF Kyle Adorno (Arthur L. Johnson, 2021), CJ Tomalavage (Union Catholic, 2021), and OF Tyler Stone (Somerville, 2022) led the way offensively. Adorno hit .398 with 72 hits including 16 XBH, 57 runs and 31 stolen bases. Tomalavage had 12 home runs, 43 RBIs, and a .507 OBP while hitting .359. Finally, Stone hit .344 with 63 hits, 46 runs scored, 40 RBIs, 13 doubles, and four homers. On the hill, Jason Gilman (Old Bridge, 2021) threw 103 innings, with a 2.09 ERA, struck out 136 and walked 32 and had a 13-1 record on the year. Christian Pareja (Passaic Tech, 2022) started 11 games, showed a 2.89 ERA in 65 IP and carried a 6-1 record. Out of the bullpen, Jason Basilicata (Donovan Catholic, 2023) made 20 appearances, 41 innings, allowed nine earned runs, and had nine saves. Kean takes on Endicott today in hopes to advance in the World Series bracket.
+ Rowan University (Division III):
Rowan has a 36-10 record and finished with a 14-4 conference record. They also did not win the NJAC tournament as they got an at-large bid to the Regional round. Rowan has not lost a game this post-season, going 3-0 in the Regional, and sweeping #5 Lynchburg in the Super Regional round. OF Phil Sedalis (Deptford, 2021) had 16 homers, .376 batting average, 72 RBIs, 77 hits, 66 runs, and 11 stolen bases, a more than impressive season for the senior. OF Jason Morgan (Gloucester Catholic, 2021) had 75 hits, 17 doubles, six homers, 59 RBIs, and a .366 average. Nick Struble (Hackettstown, 2022) has a .395 batting average, with 12 XBH, 28 RBIs, 45 hits in 114 ABs. Tyler Cannon (Gloucester Catholic, 2019) has 68 hits, 12 doubles, 51 RBIs, 59 runs scored, and a .360 batting average. There were three main starters used all season in Zach Coluccio (Timber Creek, 2021) (74.1 IP, 2.78 ERA, 71 Ks, 19 BB, 9-1 record), Steven Maiers (Kingsway, 2021) (73 IP, 3.70 ERA, 65 Ks, 19 BB, 6-2 record), and Mike Shannon (Triton Regional, 2019) (75 IP, 3.84 ERA, 74 Ks, 21 BB, 8-2 record). Rowan takes on #4 Denison in Eastlake, Ohio in the World Series bracket later today.
+ Felician University (Division II):
Felician carries a 43-20 record into the tournament, finishing 28-8 in conference. The Golden Falcons lost in the CACC championship but received an at-large bid to the regional, taking down Molloy University in the championship, advancing to the Super Regionals. In a three game series against Franklin Pierce, it all came down to the last pitch, in game three of the series, in a 6-6 ballgame, leadoff hitter Jaxson Wall (Valley Christian (CA), 2021) stepped up to the plate and crushed a walk-off solo home run to send the Golden Falcons to the Division II World Series. Wall is hitting .413 on the season with 85 hits, 15 doubles, five homers, 51 RBIs, and 37 stolen bases. Chris Corchado (Freehold Township, 2021) is hitting .345 with 70 hits, 12 doubles, 45 walks, and a .464 OBP. Luis De La Cruz is hitting .317 with 20 doubles and six homers. Haiden Walters (Coral Springs (FL), 2022) has seven home runs, 68 hits, 58 RBIs, and 16 stolen bases. The pitching staff is led by RHP Max Weber (Hicksville (NY), 2023), Weber has thrown 79.1 innings, posts a 3.86 ERA, 99 strikeouts, 34 walks, and has a 9-2 record on the year. Felician takes on University of Tampa on Saturday in Cary, NC in hopes to get off to a hot start in the World Series bracket.
