New England Diamond Notes: May 5-11

John Misiaszek was a one-man show in leading Belchertown to a 5-2 win over Agawam.

The senior hit a walk-off three-run home run to give his squad the victory, after earlier in the game driving in one run and scoring once with a single in three previous trips to the plate.

Misiaszek was also the winning pitcher, throwing a complete game for Belchertown. The right-handed hurler did not allow an earned run in the two-hit performance, striking out four, hitting one batter and not permitting a walk.

So who else had weeks that need mentioned? Read on…

HOT BATS

Big numbers on the season continue for Brandon Phillips.

The Tantasqua senior third baseman went 5-8 with three doubles and a triple this past week, scoring four runs and producing six RBIs with a 1.250 slugging percentage. A 1.875 OPS boosted his season mark to 1.123, with his OBP now at .556.

Phillips carries a .439 batting average with 13 RBIs, eight runs and six two-base hits for the year.

There were other standouts with the bat worth mentioning as well…

- Canterbury senior Tyler Harmony was 9-11 in four games to improve his season batting mark to .381. STRONG PITCHING

Ryan Marino had a pitching performance that won’t soon be forgotten.

The Reading Memorial right-hander threw a no-hitter against Lexington, striking out 17 and walking just one in an eight-inning masterpiece.

The senior, who in April gave up two hits and fanned 13 in six innings of a 6-1 win over Lexington, is now 4-0 on the season with a 1.50 ERA and 0.92 WHIP. Marino has given up only 10 hits in 32.2 innings, retiring 62 on Ks while walking 20. Opponents are hitting just .091 when the right-hander is on the mound.

There were a few more solid outings reported …
