Yellowhammer State Games: Quick Hits, Catchers

ALBERTVILLE, AL – The 2025 Yellowhammer State Games took place on Tuesday, June 17th and Wednesday, June 18th at Sand Mountain Park in Albertville, AL. This invite-only event brought together nearly 200 of the top high school prospects in Alabama from the 2026-2030 graduating classes. Over the course of two days, players participated in an extended pro-style workout featuring batting practice tracked by Trackman, 60-yard dash testing using VALD Performance, and more. Pitchers had the opportunity to compete in simulated innings during gameplay, capturing key metrics such as velocity, spin rate, and movement data via Trackman.

- 43 top EVs over 97.0 mph
- 28 top FB velocities 85.0 mph or higher
- 25 top INF velocities 85 mph or higher

+ C Colton Boyd (Orange Beach, 2027) certainly continues to add to his case of adding his name to top-tier group of catching prospects in Alabama's 2027 class. They 5-foot-10, 215-pound backstop easily passes the eye test with defined lower-half strength in the frame, and already looks like a next-level prospect. His round of BP was loud, posting a top EV of 101.5 mph and a max distance of 398 ft., both of which were at the top of the event leaderboards. The defend tool, however, is the one that catches the eyes the most, posting 1.97-2.09 pops and a 79 mph C velocity. He has strong, physical hands and wrists, which help him recieve at a high level. Impressive 2027 backstop who is a big name for college coaches to get eyes on.
+ C Parker Daniels (Briarwood Christian, 2026) has been a hitter our staff has believed is one of the top uncommitted bats in the 2026 class, and the results from this event further solidifed that recognition. Measuring in at 6-foot-1, 210-pounds, Daniels possesses massive impact ability, especially to the pull-side gap, and was evidenced during BP, where he recorded a max EV of 102. 7 mph to lead the event. The barrel is whippy and works on an upward path, allowing the ball jump off for higher exits with ease. More hit over defend right now as carrying tool, but was still quality in the defensive workout with 1.94-1.97 pop times and a 77 mph C velocity. High-level middle-of-the-order uncommitted bat that has seemed to hit in all looks, including this past spring.
+ C Sam Prier (Oak Mountain, 2026) seemed to excel in everything he did at this past week's event, whether it be an impressive round of BP or launching home runs during gameplay. Coming off a notable spring, Prier continues to boost his stock for college recruiters. Listed at 5-foot-10, 171-pounds, the rising senior has present strength with above-average athleticism showing in various parts of his game. Quick, compact left-handed swing produced pull-side contact during BP with a top EV of 95.9 mph and added three hits during gameplay, one being a three-run home run to RF. Showcased a strong arm peaking at 80 mph with pop times sitting 1.97-2.15 during the workout. 7.07-runner. Another talented uncommitted 2026 backstop.
+ Few catching prospects showcased a better collection of tools at the event than C Price Stephens (Gulf Shores, 2026), who continues to get better at each viewing. The work behind put in behind the scenes has become fairly obvious, as he shattered nearly every single previous statistics during this showing. Measuring in at 5-foot-10, 198-pounds, Stephens has a stocky, athletic build with defined strength to it. The right-handed swing is quick with good strength at the point of contact with a more line-drive approach now and chance to slug more down the road. Recorded a pair of singles during gameplay. Peaked at 98.7 mph EV with a 364 ft. max distance, and posted pop times ranging 1.94-2.10 with a 79 mph C velocity. And for good measure, he clocked a 6.65 60-yard dash at 198 pounds to round it out. Impressive two-day showing for the multi-sport prospect.
+ C Evan Taylor (Spain Park, 2027) made a splash this spring hitting in the heart of the order for the Jags as a sophomore and appears to be in the midst of a quality summer. The 6-foot-0, 199-pound backstop is a physically-gifted rising junior who flashes impressive tools at and behind the plate. From the right side, the barrel is fluid with some whip working on a clean, upward path and delivers firm gap-to-gap contact when squared up. Peaked at 96.7 mph with a 366 ft. max distance during BP. He added a pair of singles during gameplay and drove in a run. Defensively, he showcased a quick exchange and transfer to produce 1.90-2.04 pop times and a 78 mph C velocity with accurate throws to second base. Well-rounded catching prospect in the 2027 class who has a chance to continue to hit for more power down the road.
+ C Cooper Mullins (Homewood, 2026) is another talented uncommitted backstop in the 2026 class who college recruiters should have eyes on for the duration of this summer. Listed at 5-foot-8, 174-pounds, Mullins seemed to be on the barrel from the minute he walked into the park on Tuesday, as he took a professional round of BP working to both gaps and posting a top EV of 96.0 mph with a max distance of 372 ft. He back-spins the ball well with carry off the barrel using a rhythmic operation, and carried it over into gameplay where he recorded three hits against some quality arms on the mound. Behind the dish, he showcases quality recieving and blocking skills paired with 2.06-2.12 pop times on throws to second base during the workout.
+ C George Brockwell (Homewood, 2027) easily solidified himself amongst some of the top catching prospects in the attendance at the event. Measuring in at 5-foot-11, 187-pounds, Brockwell possesses a strong, broad-shouldered build and incoporates the strength well in the swing. Hitting from a simple operation from the right side of the plate, the rising junior showcased an accurate barrel with good feel for the sweet spot and some present bat speed. There's some impact ability in the profile, posting a top EV of 98.2 mph, an average EV of 93.7 mph, and a max distance of 375 ft during BP. The defensive skills aren't far behind, as he ranged 1.97-2.06 in pop times while peaking at 73 mph on throws to second base. He continued to take good at-bats during gameplay, where he recorded a single and a walk on Tuesday.
+ C Wells Ganey (Ariton, 2026) continues to make some noticable strides on both sides of the ball and flashes some quality tools packed in a 5-foot-5, 169-pound frame. A former Future Gamer, showed off some impressive physicality using his compact, strong frame with a top EV of 102.3 mph during BP using a flatter path through contact with present bat speed. The approach is gap-to-gap with consistent line drives, and pairs it with pop times that ranged 1.88-2.06 and a C velocity of 76 mph. Recieves and blocks well to save runs. Also a sneaky good athlete who clocked a 6.93 60-yard dash.
+ C Braydon Nichols (Munford, 2027) is another talented backstop in the 2027 class worth following over the next year. Coming in at 5-foot-9, 169-pounds, Nichols has a medium build with future strength apparent, and flashes some impressive skills on both sides of the ball. Easy and relaxed in the box, Nichols has a loose, fluid right-handed swing that caught multiple barrels during BP, where he worked to all parts of the field in his approach. He added a hit and a line-out to right field during his at-bats on Wednesday. Possessing some of the better catch-and-throw abilities from the event, Nichols led the event with 1.82-2.00 pop times and also posted a 79 mph C velocity.
+ C Easton Grace (WS Neal, 2026) is on the heels of a strong high school season and appears to be carrying that momentum into the summer, where he showed well in multiple facets from this week's event. Possessing a strong, mature build at 6-foot-0, 191-pounds, the rising senior had a solid showing during BP, where he consistently barreled balls to both gaps using a quick, powerful right-handed stroke that yielded a top EV of 95.6 mph. The barrel works on a mostly upward path with the strength present in the swing, allowing him to impact it well with easy pop. He also starred behind the plate, posting 1.91-1.97 pop times and a C velocity of 78 mph during the defensive workout. Also nabbed a runner at second base during gameplay.
