2025 Pitcher of the Year: KEVIN MOORE

Prep Baseball KY Staff

The 2025 high school season was one of the most pitcher-dominant years in recent memory. We saw several performances worthy of Pitcher of the Year consideration, an award reserved for the top senior pitcher in the Bluegrass State. It was another tough decision for the Prep Baseball KY staff, but, after hours of discussion and statistical analysis, we settled on one guy: Kevin Moore.

Kevin is a leader both on the field and in the locker room, and has been a longtime favorite of the KY staff for years. He turned a corner this season and stepped up as the ace of a talented Ballard rotation, answering the call with the outstanding season that he had. Here's what Head Coach David Trager had to say about him: "Kevin was our guy. He was the one that wanted the ball and wanted to put the team on his back. He did that for us all year. He’s a baseball player at heart and this is what he was born to do. As much as I’ve enjoyed coaching him, his journey has just begun. I can’t wait for him to excel at the next level and beyond."

The 6'2" 190lb RHP/INF committed to Indiana University Southeast just over a month ago, where he will continue to put his two-way talents on display at the next level. Moore was outstanding offensively this season, but he did his best work on the mound.

He finished the season with a 7-1 record in 68.2 innings pitched, recording 79 strikeouts while allowing just 11 walks and 7 earned runs on 35 hits to compile a 0.71 ERA. Four of those wins came against teams outside of Kentucky, with a complete game win over then #3 ranked Olentangy Liberty (OH), a win on Spring Break over Halifax County Sr (VA), a nine inning complete game gem against Oswego East (IL), and a complete game shutout victory over Floyd Central (IN). As dominant as these performances were, arguably his best outings were still ahead of him. In the last two weeks of the season, Moore had three electric outings for the Bruins. In a tie agaisnt the uber talented and #5 ranked Sayre Spartans, Moore went 7.0 IP, allowing 2 H, 1 ER and recording an incredible 14 strikeouts, a performance that earned him Pitcher of the Week for May 12-18. When the postseason came around, Moore gave the Bruins a 28th District Title with a 7 inning shutout over Eastern. Finally, in the 7th Region semifinals, the senior RHP battled in one of the best pitchers' duels of the year, holding #2 overall St. Xavier scoreless into extra innings in a tough loss. From start to finish, it was a remarkable season for the Ballard ace.

The IU Southeast commit was on a mission during this senior season. PPL Louisville Pitching Coordinator Travis Tingle had this to say about the talented righty: "This wasn’t a spring switch flip — the work started in the fall and continued through winter training. Kevin committed himself to a plan, showed up with intent, and made real gains in his command, delivery efficiency, and overall maturity on the mound. By the time the season rolled around, he was physically ready and mentally sharp and it showed in every outing. This award isn’t just about stats. It’s about presence. Kevin set the tone for his team, made big pitches in big moments, and continued to raise the standard for himself week after week. It’s been a privilege to watch his development, and I’m confident he’s just scratching the surface of what he’s capable of."

For these reasons and for his performance on the mound, Prep Baseball Kentucky would like to congratulate Kevin Moore on a fantastic senior season, and we are excited to name him 2025 Pitcher of the Year!
