Tennessee Top Prospect Games: Quick Hits
June 7, 2025
Nashville, TN - The Prep Baseball Tennessee Top-Prospect Games was held on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 27th/28th at Hawkins Field and Riverdale in Nashville and Murfreesboro, Tennessee. This event was an invite-only event that consisted of players from the 2026-2028 classes from the Volunteer State. Players went through an extended pro-style workout that included batting practice using Trackman, ran the 60-yard dash using Vald Performance, and much more. Pitchers were able to get numbers and metrics on TrackMan. There were some players who showed up and continued to build off of prior performances, but there were also some new names who jumped onto our radar with a strong showing at the event. Continuing our post-event coverage for this event, we take a look at some of the standouts and top performers from the event.
QUICK HITS
A former junior future gamer, Abbagnaro continues to build on what has been a LOUD year so far. A steady presence in the CPA lineup all year he would pick up where he left off in the state championship game in our gameplay during the TNTPG with a no-doubt pullside homerun. He would post the second quickest average bat speed of the event (77.7 mph) while also being 87 from the outfield.
The #1 overall player in the state for the class of 2027 (14th overall nationally) showed out once again. A member of the 2024 TN future games team shined on both days of the top prospect games. Having one of the best overall BP rounds with impressive metrics all around. 103 max ev, 94.4 average, with 71 mph average bat speed just to name a few. He carried this into gameplay with multiple loud barrels.
In a class full of top tier talent behind the plate, KJ Anderson is definitely one to keep highlighted as he heads into the back half of his high school career. He brings an explosive left handed bat with the ability to pull balls with backspin, posting a 102.4 max exit velo. Behind the dish he shows off plus arm strength with a 1.8 poptime.
The big shortstop had a great showing in front of our staff Tuesday night at Vanderbilt. A Nolensville product, Barney would start the summer off hot after a school season that was unfortunately shorter than expected. He brings an impressive frame which he is still growing into (6 '4,175 lbs), he would still put up 100+ EV’s with batspeeds in the 70s. Much more to come as he continues to grow and develop.
There is a ton to like about a still uncommitted Jack Beck. He showed off serious tools, while having a build which projects extremely well. The 6’2 and 215 pound Beck would run a 6.69 second 60 yard dash. He showed off a 90 mph arm from the infield, oh and popped a 102 with 70.2 mph average bat speed. Multiple legit tools presently, one can only imagine what those are going to develop into further down the line.
We got another great look at an 865 product during the top prospect games last week. Still uncommitted as he heads into his senior season, the SS had a great couple days that will put him on some radars as the summer ball circuit picks up. A very good runner (6.87), Bergeron was sure handed all day during gameplay with great at bats to boot.
The two sport standout for Providence Academy showed exactly why he is one of the premier names still uncommitted in the class of 2026. The primary OF made Charles Hawkins park look small with multiple tape measure bombs in bp, including one that landed on top of the building in left field. Eyepopping metrics with the swing, 75mph average batspeed, 101 max EV (103 this spring). While being a 7 flat runner with a 90+ arm from the outfield. A name that's gonna be in hot demand as we get further into the summer.
Stephen Bobo: A top 10 player in the Tennessee class of ‘27 overall rankings, Bobo had an electric performance during the TN Top Prospect games showcasing legitimate tools in the process. He would put up an event best 96 mph from the outfield, a premium defender out there where he is able to utilize every bit of his 6.6 60 speed. A great build with room to add at 5’11 and 172 lbs, Bobo should be circled and starred by coaches this summer and through the end of his HS career.
Fresh off of a State Championship with Lipscomb Academy, Borders would show why he's another stud produced by the Mustangs. The primary infielder, who has played multiple positions for LA, had an impressive couple of days over the course of the TNTPG. Borders seems to have taken a leap physically, shaving three tenths off of his 60 time (7.07 this spring and 6.7 at Vandy) as well as increasing his max exit velo nearly 10 mph in the same time frame. On a HS roster full of D1 talent, Borders is throwing his hat into that ring.
The rising junior dominated in his inning of work collecting 3 K’s in inning, while working the fastball up to 83-84 with an advanced breaking-ball in the 72-73 mph range with plus spin (2700-2800) that carried both depth and sweep to the shape. The Grace Christian product should see an immediate jump in innings next season with more velo in the tank to the profile.
The current #3 overall 2027 in the state of TN and the 4th ranked catcher nationally, Brick was on full display during the TN Top Prospect games. He would have one of the best days overall during the showcase portion, showing a quicker 60 than this spring (7.4 to 7.2). Will Brick would do Will Brick things during defense and BP, with an insane 1.71 poptime (83 mph), and put on a clinic during BP. He was not done however, because in one of the first at bats of the day, he went no doubt home run to left field. Which was one of 4 hits in the game for him. One of the premier talents in the country for a reason, one that is definitely going to get much better in the near future.
Britton continues to shine on both sides of the ball where he played smooth defensively at shortstop during the games portion of the event. He would finish the day with some hard barrels off the bat. He shows a lot of future upside on the mound where he sits effortlessly in the 84-86 mph range with present feel for the strike-zone. He would also show a slider in the 72-74 range with a plus changeup at 73-74 with 16 inches of avg HZM.
The uncommitted backstop shows switch-hitting traits in the box but does a lot of his damage from the right side the majority of the time. Shows great body control in the box with a slight one-legged back foot load that explodes toward the pitcher. Soft hands behind the dish with good movement laterally. One to follow this summer.
The cousin of Tennessee bound recruit Hutson Chance, Crew shows a lot of the same baseball IQ that seems to run in the family. Stocky build with present muscle to the frame. Continues to get better every time we see him. Played a role this spring as a freshman for one of the better lineups in the entire state of TN. Present barrel feel to use the entire field. Power output will come.
A member of Team Tennessee at the 2024 Junior Futures Games, Calloway would continue to impress as a part of the Top Prospect games. The young backstop, who put on a hitting clinic at JFG’s last year, would continue the trend with a loud round of BP. With a max EV of 98 and average of 89, there is so much more to come from the 6’2 and 180 lb frame. Uber projectable, definitely a high follow through the next couple years.
The left-hander got on our radar this spring where we got our first official look and he has stuck with us ever since. Shows a lot of pitchability working to both sides of the plate with multiple pitches. Attacks hitters aggressively with a fastball in the 82-83 mph range with boar to arm-side. Also broke off multiple sliders to left and right handed hitters at 71-74 mph. Shows a lot of present polish with more to come.
Collins was a big winner for me during the games portion where he attacked hitters with strike one. Shows a projectable frame where he currently has fluid actions down the mound. Lived 84-85, while topping 87. He also showed a slider in the 71-74 mph range with almost 20 inches of average horizontal, a metric outlier already. The CH also shows promise with 15 inches of average horizontal. If he can continue pitching like he did in his one inning of work, he should be primed to get a lot of looks this summer.
The rising junior has been a name for us for awhile now ever since we got our first taste two years ago at Junior Future Games. He was a presence out of the pen this season for state runner-up CPA, while also making quality starts. Showed the fastball in the 85-87 mph range, while topping 88. The real kicker is the slider that tunnels out of the same arm slot with tight spin at 72-75 in the 2600-2800 rpms. The changeup is advancing and shows real ability to be used to both LHH/RHH where it comes in with almost 15 inches of average horizontal at 78-80. The arsenal is good and has shown the ability to use it in games.
A legitimate 2 way prospect, Derry would really shine across the 2 days of Top Prospect games. He would put several balls out during batting practice where he posted a 97 max exit velo and 87 average. During gameplay, he would get right back to it. Showing off a very quick and tight move to turn on an inside fastball for a no-doubt home run. Brings a smaller frame at present, but shows plenty of athleticism while still having physical development in the windshield.
After recovering from an arm injury suffered a season ago, we got our second look on the young right-hander and shows a lot of intriguing upside. Shows a lot of easy fuel living 87-92 with the heater with an advanced shape and life to it (2300-2400 w 16.8 avg HZM) Lives primarily off the fastball where it gets in on hitters when in the zone and makes for an uncomfortable at-bat. Would like to see him attack hitters earlier and more consistently but the upside is there.
One of the more intriguing bats in the state for the class of 2027, Josh Duggin had a great showing during the top prospect games. A right handed bat, Duggin led the event in every blast metric, posting an insane 85 mph average bat speed with a max of 89. ++ batspeed tool at present, yet he seems to have trouble putting all that torque to the road at times. During BP he generated a max exit velo of 100 with an average of 90, with so, so much more in the tank. One to follow, as he appears to be on track to have a great summer.
A West Knoxville product, Ferrel had a very solid showing during the Top Prospect games. He features very good athleticism for his size, moving very well behind the plate to a 1.85 poptime at 79 mph. He would show off his skills behind the plate making a great throw in gameplay to hose a runner by several steps. Showed great bat speed at the plate with a 71.2 mph average, hit a lot of balls hard but at a steep angle forcing him to get under the ball. A game commander behind the plate, who should increase in athleticism as he further develops into his frame.
We got the opportunity to watch a great showing by yet another quality bat out of Lipscomb Academy. Fisher brings a big, yet projectable frame of which he is still developing into. He showed a jump in athleticism from previous showings, and should continue to trend in the right direction in that regard. A lot to like in his swing that is raw at present, there is big time juice in there which shows itself in glimpses.
The MTCS product gave us our first look since we saw him pitch this spring against GCA where we were impressed with the makeup. Shows some physicality present in the build with more to come as he matures. Lived 85-86 with the fastball that bored arm-side. Also shows great depth on the breaking-ball that carries some sweep with it to make it an effective offering to get swing and misses at 74-75.
The long and lean 6 foot 6 Foster continues to grow into the body and watch out, as the arm was lively and the body much more controlled down the mound. The prep athlete has bloodlines and already is showing the competitiveness and drive that must be had. The arms get great extension down the mound where he lived 84-86, topping 87. The breaking-ball also flashed at times in the 73-77 range. The best secondary may have been the CH at 76-77 with killed spin and decent out of hand. At the plate, Foster collected a double off of a deep shot to LCF that 1-hopped the wall. Still so much more in there and we are eager to continue to watch his development.
The backstop was fresh off of an impressive HS season which saw his Oak Ridge squad advance all the way to Murfreesboro. Free has been a staple in said lineup since the minute he stepped on campus, a general behind the dish he showed a 1.91 pop time at 79 mph at the Top Prospect games. A sub 7 runner in the 60, he barreled balls consistently hard in both BP and gameplay with mid 70s batspeed. Free looks to cement himself as a legit catching prospect in a loaded ‘27 class.
One of the premier pitching prospects in the state, French, who played everyday shortstop in HS when he wasn't pitching, can more than hang at the dish. Only scratching the surface of his frame, he would be up to 98 with his exit velo with a quick bat.
The southpaw continues to show the advanced pitchability for the age coming off of a stellar varsity season as an 8th grader. Easy and repeatable actions on the mound with a calm delivery that screams for additional velocity gains as he matures with age. Lived 82-84, while topping 85. That's not it either, the slider is legit where it comes in at 70-73 with 2600-3000 spin with tunnel out of hand. He used it to both LHH/RHH with effectiveness. The Changeup is also another offering that already shows advancement in at 77-78 with 17 inches of average horizontal movement. Not even being 16 and having advanced feel with 3 offerings is a rarity, add that to the pitchability and the future is bright for Greene.
A 2 time future gamer, Haney brings a high level of competitiveness and drive to the baseball field that is past his years. Still early in both his HS years and physical development, he should see an increase in what is already great athleticism. Showed an improvement on both 60 time and INF velo look for a big jump in hitting measureables soon.
Haselhuhn capped off a very strong and breakout spring season right where he left off. Already showing advanced physical traits at 6 foot 3 and 230 pounds, with sneaky athleticism. Metric machine where he belted multiple balls over 100 mph with a max EV of 102. Also showed off the arm strength with 92 from the outfield. Showing the two-way upside, Haselhuhn took his talents to the mound where he shows easy arm speed with breaking that should lead to future velocity gains. Lived 87-88 with the heater, while averaging over 20 inches of average horizontal on the two seam. The curveball shows some loopiness but the shape is effective with depth and sweep. We are high on Haselhuhn and this will be another break-out summer for the rising junior.
A top 20 player in TN for the class, Holland continues to make waves this year. Coming off of a great HS season he was right back to work during gameplay collecting 2 extra base hits, including a no-doubt home run and a standup double. 1.81 from behind the dish at 84 mph, and also a 7 flat runner, he shows off great athleticism from behind the dish. Having also thrown a runner out in gameplay.
Hooks is simply a gamer and performs in big situations when relied upon. The former Junior Future Gamer doesn’t necessarily wow you with anything but does everything at an extremely high level. Knows the game really well, belted balls all over Hawkins Field in tune to a 98 max EV. On the pitching side, didn’t give up a hit and missed barrels routinely in the mid 80’s, while flashing a breaking-ball that equally misses barrels.
A two sport star for the Siegel Stars, Hostetler led his high school squad deep into the state tournament. He shows off loud tools across the board, highlighted by 6.5 speed in the 60 yard dash he is also 92 mph from the outfield (up to 90 off the bump) which lets him be one of the premier defenders in the state. Plus batspeed he had again and again showed he knows how to use it when it matters in gameplay. One who may look to play both at the higher levels, Hostetler has ++ athleticism that will no doubt take him far whatever he chooses to do.
Yet another quality catching prospect out of Riverdale, Insani, who is also a very good pitcher, showed off both in 2 days across the top prospect games. He has a great physicality at 6’2 and 182 pounds which he is still developing into, he ran his exit velo up into the high 90s. Shows qualities of a serious arm talent at 80 mph from behind the dish and up to 87 on the mound. Another name to pay attention to on a great Riverdale lineup.
The Baylor product was very good again during the two days of the Top Prospect games. He brings a broad shouldered, very physical frame that keeps getting better, into an explosive swing which let him play pepper with Vandy's big left field wall at times. Jessee has shown a big jump in speed in the last year from 7.5 to his current 7 flat, he seems primed to creep into sub 7 very soon.
The southpaw got on our radar this past spring from Grace Christian and the intrigue on the upside is very real. We saw him this past winter where he was 82-83 but has taken a major leap on the bump where he sat in the 85-88 mph range, while topping 89 a handful of times. Shows sinker shaping action with 17 inches of average horizontal that will eat up lefties inside, while also being a backdoor weapon if able to command it. Flashed a slider in the 71-75 range while showing the right ingredients with the changeup at 73-78 in the 1400-1500 spin range that should be effective to righties in the box. Long and lengthy with plenty of more to add as he matures and will be a name to know this summer.
A very interesting prospect out of Ravenwood, Karkau did a little bit of everything at the top prospect games, but did it all very well. A primary catcher, he shows premium athleticism for the position as a 6.68 runner in the 60. He uses that athleticism very well on the bump as well, where he worked in the mid 80s. A legit prospect in all aspects of his game, he will be fun to watch this summer where he competes with the SE Mad Mavs.
King may have had one of the highest overall impressions where he looked good hitting and pitching. The Silverdale product looked much more physical than our last look and showed a lot of late blooming attributes. Showed a 73 mph average bat speed that translated to a 97 max EV with multiple line drives. On the mound, is where Graham really shined where he lived in the zone with all of his pitches, attacking hitters inside and outside. The fastball looked firmer in the 85-87, T88 range with quality spin. He also showed effectiveness with the offspeed that included a 78-79 mph changeup that missed bats and a 74-76 breaking ball. Looked the part inducing weak contact and striking out a batter.
Zain Kureshi-Smith: Fresh off of a state tournament championship for Farragut where he was a major standout in the tournament, Kureshi-Smith continued to standout over the course of the Top Prospect games. One can only dream what he can become physically as he currently stands at 6 foot and 165 pounds, very high ceiling as he continues to grow. He would use his extreme athleticism to post the second fastest 60 in the event at 6.48. Was a quality bat all season for the Admirals, should continue to hit the ball harder and harder soon. Circle and star this one coaches, big time potential for ZKS.
We got a very good look at the ‘27 of Jack Lauer during the TPG. He showed promise on both sides of the ball, he was impressive on the bump with a high ride FB. At the plate he had a mature round during BP, staying towards the middle of the field and not selling out for EV. Great frame that projects well at 6’1, 175, more to come for Lauer.
Another solid outing from the 2 time Junior Future Gamer in Luke Lawson. He brings a great frame at 6 '1 and 175 lbs which projects to much more physically. During batting practice he took a very professional round, staying at the L-screen and up the middle, taking care of business. Bat stays through the zone for a very long time, which will do him well as his strength increases.
The incoming junior from Baylor proved once again why he is one of the best players in the country in the class of 2027. Primarily a catcher, Lundy looked extremely smooth in the infield where he was 91 from shortstop. Behind the dish he posted a 1.73 poptime at 84 mph. His bread and butter however is at the dish, where he hit 15 home runs this HS season. Lundy would post an easy 100.5 max exit velo. Winner of both Mr. Baseball for Division 2 AA, and Max Preps State player of the year, he looks to dominate this summer at the highest level of the travel ball circuit.
The uncommitted junior RHP is someone that I continue to like. The body is physical with surprisingly decent athleticism in the way he moves. The hips fire aggressively, but within rhythm where he shows sneaky arm speed producing fastballs in the 88-90, T91 range outlier metrics that carried 2500 rpms on average with 19 inches of vertical. This is a pitch that can be used up early and often to induce weak barrels. The CB is a power pitch in the 79-80 mpg range with both depth and sweep, while showing the right makeup with the changeup in the 84-85 range carrying killed spin with developing horizontal. Coming into his own and will have a huge opportunity in front of him this summer.
Our staff got a great look at the slick fielding shortstop of Zach Madar, at 2027 graduate out of Davidson Academy. Still very lean at 6’1 and 167 pounds, he shaved .2 off of his 60 from earlier this year, down to a 6.8. Was extremely good during gameplay at short, with a first quick step and a 84 mph arm. More to come from Madar as he turns towards the end of his HS career.
Currently the 6th overall 2027 in the state, Martin is a very high follow as he gets further into his physical development. He carries great athleticism in his 6’2 and 240 frame, running a very quick 7.08 60. The power upside is evident at the plate, where he has present pop, but can smoothen out his mechanics. Martin shows plus batspeed at 70 mph average, and 78.6 max. I expect a big jump in his exit velo, and possibly a dip into the sub 7s with his 60 as he develops into his XL frame.
We got a very solid look at a switch hitting out of the providence academy. A very good mover in the infield with a lot of upside physically. He would only hit left handed at the TPG, but showed a smooth swing. Much more to come out of Martinez who is one to watch on a very good HS roster.
The two-way prospect continues to impress after jumping on our radar last fall. Already shows good makeup with confidence. The frame has some twitch and should only continue to get faster. Showed a 6.84 second 60 with budding attributes around the diamond. Showed 91 mph from the outfield with more to come. At the plate, belted lasers consistently to LCF with a max EX of 95. During the games portion, he would collect a base knock with a 2K approach barreling an 0-2 slider to opposite field. On the mound is where I am really eager to see the progression over the next few years. Lived 82-83, while topping 85 on the heater. The slider is for real where he carries two-plane tilt with late bite at 72-76. The actions are present and the ability is something that we really believe in.
There aren't a lot of uncommitted lefties with the ability that Murff comes with left on the board and this summer will be massive for his career after high school. Long with projection remaining in the profile, Murff carries present arm speed that produced fastballs in the 84-87 range at 2300 spin with 21.5 inches of average induced vertical. If he can command the offering more consistently, he should be able to miss barrels up in the zone. The breaking ball shows ability in the 76-78 mph range with both depth and sweep, while also flashing a changeup in the 75-79 range. Coming off of a District Pitcher of the Year award during the spring season, we are hoping he carries that momentum to this summer.
The left-handed hitting rising junior packs a punch in the frame where he consistently produces 100+ mph EV in the 165 pound frame. The developing frame leaves a lot of projection left to had. The defense already covers a significant amount of range in center field. During the games portion of the event, Newell worked counts in multiple at-bats collecting a walk. He will be a guy that we continue to monitor over the summer.
There is a lot to like with Ogburn where the physical traits stand out immediately. Saw him at 3rd this spring for Houston High School but the intrigue on the mound is what really caught my eye in this look at Top-Prospect Games. Collected a hit in the games portion of the showcase but was really effective on the mound. Pitched up to 88, while also inducing a changeup in the low 80’s that missed barrels. Flashed a sharp slider at times in the upper 70’s. At 6 foot 5 and about 215-220 pounds, the upside is clearly present.
This Pearl shined as bright as a diamond over the 2 days of the Tennessee Top Prospect games. Currently ranked as the 4th overall ‘27 in the state, he would leave no doubt that he is one of the top talents in the state. The OF has outlier bat-speed which he uses to full effect to produce impressive exit velo numbers. He had an average exit velo of nearly 100 mph (98) and a max of 104. During gameplay he would have an impressive HR to straightaway center that most likely beat his 104 during BP. He already has an impressive amount of physicality to him that will continue to improve.
no-doubt contender for one of the best uncommitted ‘26s. Persell seems to push the barrier every time we see him. To the point where we are now at runaway train status because Persell is showing no signs of stopping anytime soon. He has increased his max exit velo at each of his last 3 events, 99, 101 and an event best 104.5 at the top prospect games. A sub 7 runner (6.94) with an 87 mph arm from the INF. Lets also not forget the fact that he does it on the bump too, that he has been up to 90 on. Coaches, this is one to have on your shortlist as summer progresses.
A true switch hitter, the Briarcrest middle infielder has been extremely impressive over the past month. A key part of the Saints return to the State championship, Photopolus continued his run with an impressive showing at the TPG. A 6.99 runner, he holds more strength in his frame as he gets stronger, already up to 97 max exit velo.
One of the top arms in the entire 2028 class of TN, Potter jumped onto our radar a year ago and was one of our top arms at Junior Future Games. He carried that success over to this spring where he was dominant on the mound for Dickson County. Getting our first look at him this year and not much has changed in our eyes, and if anything we are that much more bought into the upside and the current ability on the mound. Lived 82-84 with the fastball where he showed truly advanced sequencing mixing both up and down in the zone. The breaking ball continues to be a weapon for him coming in the 68-72 mph range. The changeup also showed depth to the offering when used down in the zone. He shows truly advanced mental capacity for controlling a game and as he continues to develop, watch out for the velocity to continue to climb.
Our staff got a great look at the #8 overall ranked 2028 grad in the state in Jack Rhodes. He projects extremely well physically, which currently shows the early buddings of some serious tools. A left handed bat, he uses his long levers well. To the tune of a 96 max exit velo and 90 average. A 7 flat runner he moves very well behind the dish as well posting a 1.94 pop time at 77 mph. Although it's early in his HS career yet, the evident ceiling for Rhodes is extremely high and it will be extremely fun to see how he develops in the coming years.
If you were to use one word to describe Jonah Saken it would be hard to pick. At the top of the list however, is competitor and ballplayer. A member of the ‘24 TN JFG team, Saken played everyday as a freshman for Ravenwood. There were few players who seemed to have more fun during the gameplay than Saken, who brings a level of intensity to the field that not many do. 9th overall ‘27 in the state the middle infielder still has a ton of physical development before him, which should give him standout metrics to complement the top tier gamer that he already is.
Fresh off of being a pivotal piece in the machine that is the 2025 state champions Lipscomb Academy, Stark got right back to work as the uncommitted incoming senior looks to make big waves as we get deeper into the summer. The smooth swinging lefty made Vanderbilt's field look small, showing off massive power potential in his 6’7, 225 lbs frame. He creates natural lift in his swing, never selling out for launch angle. Very quick hands with only 2 mph of difference in his average and max batspeeds (76.4 and 78.5). A plus defender at first base with a 87 mph arm in the field. Definitely one who looks to burst out on the national stage this summer.
Stockton had a breakout freshman campaign for state tournament participants Liberty Creek. Shows a lot of present tools with ability to play in game as well. Shows instincts defensively and works well with the glove to both his left and right. Sprayed balls in his BP session to LCF consistently with line-drives on the approach. On the mound, Stockton continues to elevate his game where he has a quick tempo pace with a linear path to home that helped him reach 87 on the fastball, while sitting in the mid 80’s throughout his inning. Generated a lot of swing and miss and will be one to keep an eye out on.
We got a great look at a ‘27 grad out of Collierville who has been impressive all year, he would continue his breakout year after a very good showing at the TPG. He has present pop out of a very good left handed swing. Very good arm presently as he was 87 across the infield. He will look to make a splash this summer and continue to be a staple in the Collierville lineup.
We had the pleasure of watching an up and coming middle infielder from Knoxville area powerhouse Hardin Valley. Van Lant brings an ultra projectable 6 foot and 175 pound frame. There are multiple present tools with him, including a 6.7 second 60 yard dash, as well as being 88 and 85 from the outfield and infield respectively. He had quality at bats all day during gameplay with a great round of BP to boot. A lot to like about Van Lant, and should be on your watch list this summer.
A multisport star for CPA, he looks to fill big shoes as QB1 on the gridiron. First however he should continue to put on great looks on the diamond. He was a big part of CPA’s state championship appearance, collecting multiple hits in the ‘chip. ++ Frame at 6’3 and 175 pounds. At the plate he brings simple and powerful actions that produce easy line drives. There are big things coming for the rising Junior in multiple sports.
Vandercook had a really strong sophomore season for Nolensville coming in relief in the times that we saw him. Lived 84-86 with the fastball with advanced spin up to 2500’s. The shapes are already showing above average and with the frame, will be a guy that should get a lot of looks his way on the recruitment trail. Broke off a slider in the 71-73 range that generated weak contact, showing manipulation to miss barrels. The Changeup may have been his best offering where it came in at 76-77 with decreased spin in the 1300-1400 range and should be a weapon to be used against both LHH and RHH.
A freshmen this year at Lipscomb Academy, Wagner cemented himself as a two-way threat during the top prospect games. Legit frame, already standing at 6’1 and 185 pounds, he moves extremely well running a 6.9 second 60 yard dash. He had a very good round of bp under less than ideal conditions, with a best exit velo of 93.4 Off the bump he would work up to 83 with the FB, with much more to come as he was 86 across the infield. He will look to break into a loaded LA varsity squad as he continues to grow and develop physically.
A first baseman out of CAK, Waller has proven one thing time and time again, that he can Mash. He would show the ability to drive the ball with authority to the other way during batting practice, and during the game, where he would collect a stand up double off the deep right center fence. The lefty was 87 across the infield with a max exit velo of 99. Juice present as he had 8 bombs and 11 doubles over the course of his HS season.
We got a very exciting look at a young first baseman and RHP out of Brentwood in Jake West. The sky is the limit for West as he has a 6’5 and 215 pound frame that already has decent size to it. There is present power within the bat, however there is 60+ grade power in there somewhere. 98.5 max exit velo with an average above 90 is a pretty great starting point for somebody who hasn't gotten their drivers license yet. Already a top 20 player in the state, don't be surprised if at some point he makes a leap in every sense.
The Christian Brother right-hander may have had the best overall performance at the Top-Prospect Games collecting 7 outs in his one inning without allowing a baserunner or a hit. Getting 3 outs quickly, we wanted to allow him to get additional work and he was up for the challenge breaking off 72-73 mph sliders that missed every barrel, while sitting in the 80-83 mph range with the fastball. The stuff was good and the performance even better as he dominated in his showing on the mound.
Woods looks likely to be the top left-handed arm in the ‘27 class of TN and the stuff continues to play at a major level, while also still showing a lot of future projection to work with as he continues his maturing process. Shows extremely long and athletic levers with a thin/high-waisted frame that should hold a considerable amount of more velocity. Lived 85-87 with the fastball with a quick late arm that hides well behind his body. Also showed a slider at 76-77 that looks likely to be in the 80 mph range in a short time. Big summer ahead.
An infielder out of Lakeway Christian, Worsham would have as good a day as just about anyone else during gameplay. He would collect 3 hits on the day including a bomb to left field. He showed a decrease in his 60 yard time from PAS this spring, as well as a tick up in arm strength. A gamer who showed great feel for the game, one to watch.
On a day where some of the top catching talent in the country was present, Zenner hung right there with him, showing that he is more than capable of running with anybody. At the dish he keeps it simple with his setup but has a level of aggression to the ball that is right in the sweet spot. He ambushes balls, yet is not overswinging. He would show a 101 max exit velo with a 90 mph average. Behind the dish he would post a 1.87 second pop time at 78 mph. A sub-7 runner and a left handed bat as a catcher will never go out of demand and Zenner is right there in the conversation.
