Gulf Coast Summer ID: Quick Hits

Austin Sharp
Alabama Scouting Director

ORANGE BEACH, AL - The Gulf Coast Summer ID was held on Tuesday, June 3rd at Orange Beach Sportsplex in Orange Beach, AL. This event was an open event that consisted of prospects from the 2026-2030 classes. These players went through extended pro-style workout that included batting practice using Trackman and Blast Motion, ran the 60-yard dash using VALD Performance, and much more. Pitchers were able to throw in simulated bullpens during the workout and were able to get numbers and metrics off of our Trackman unit, such as pitch velocity, spin rate, horizontal & vertical movement & much more. There were some players who showed up and continued to build off of prior performances, but there were also some new names who jumped onto our radar with a strong showing on Sunday.

Continuing our post-event coverage, we take an in-depth look at a select number of standouts from Tuesday's event. Please continue to check back over the next week, as we will release other leaderboards and individual scouting reports on each player present at the event.

Brue Milner C / Tallassee High School, AL / 2027

5-foot-10, 210-pounds. Premium physicality and strength to the frame built in proportionally, especially in the lower-half. One of the top offensive prospects in Alabama's 2027 class and a high-level name to know for this summer. Utilizes the strength and physcality exceptionally well, as he generates tons of force and torque in rotation allowing him to impact the baseball at a real high level, particularly to the pull-side during BP. Swings the right-handed barrel with aggressive intent, looking to drive and hammer into the LCF gap. Ability to slug is the carrying tool currently, but has shown in-game the ability to shorten up and spray some to all-fields. Round was littered with loud contact, posting numerous triple-digit EVs with a top of 103.1 mph while averaging 98.5 mph and recorded a max estimated distance of 409 ft., all event-bests. Showcases a quick transfer behind the plate with above-average arm strength, producing 1.98-2.07 pop times and a C velocity of 77 mph to the second-base bag. Checks a good amount of boxes for our staff being able to show the pop in multiple settings, including in the spring where not many teams seemed to be able to get him out. Continues to showcases as the top backstop in Alabama's 2027 class and will be a name for college coaches to monitor closely this summer.

Boston Hanna 3B / OF / Gulf Breeze High School, FL / 2027

5-foot-11, 174-pounds. Athletic build with some present strength. Thoroughly impressive performance from the rising junior with the right-handed bat, showing tons of impact in the barrel and some positional versatility on the defensive side. Offensively, the uncommitted right-hander took some big hacks throughout his round of BP and delivered consistent loud contact to the pull-side frequently. With some upwardness to the barrel path, Hanna displays some pull-side power with a couple of home runs leaving the yard in the round with a chance for more with added strength and physicality. The bat speed is present while hitting off of a firm back-side to allow him to impact the baseball at a high-level. Moved around the field defensively and showcased some ability there, posting an INF velo of 87 mph across and an 88 mph OF velo during the defensive portion of the workout. Has athletic movements and fits the mold of a corner spot, where it be on the dirt or grass. Also clocked a 7.17 60-yard dash. Another impressive, toolsy rising junior present at the event.

Brodie Wilson RHP / 1B / Faith Academy, AL / 2027

6-foot-1, 187-pounds. Projectable build with present room to add strength and future growth. One of the top two-way prospects in Alabama's 2027 class, and flashed ability on both sides during the event. Offensively, the right-hander starts in a lower hand-set and uses a toe-tap trigger for timing. Showcases a simple move to the launch position and leads a quick barrel through the zone on an upward path, allowing for some lift and impact to the pull-side. Lived on the barrel with consistent line drives to the LCF gap recording a top EV of 99.3 mph and a max estimated distance of 387 ft. On the mound, the right-hander operated 85-86 mph with the fastball and topped at 86.7 mph while showing some late tailing action and has been as high as 88 mph in the past. Spins a hard, lateral slider at 77-80 mph showing late bite and spin rates around the 2200 RPM mark and shows some tunnel off the fastball, especially when located to the glove-side. Also turns over the changeup at 79-80 mph well with significant fading action to the arm side. Clean operation and delivery with likely future jumps to come. Another talented 2027 prospect in Alabama to follow this summer.

Eli Quinley C / Faith Academy, AL / 2027

5-9, 182-pounds. Some present strength built into the frame with quality athleticism showing. Another highly-ranked backstop in Alabama's 2027 class and coming off a good sophomore campaign at the plate. Showcases plenty of present tools and ranked near the top of most statistical categories on the offensive and defensive side. Slightly-open stance with a toe-tap trigger for timing from the right side of the plate. The barrel is whippy through the zone creating tons of easy, pull-side impact and pop, posting a top EV of 101.9 mph during his round of BP. Smooth, athletic actions in the swing. Hit .414 in batting average as a sophomore with a home run, but should continues to see higher volumes of power output in the future. Also flashed some of the best catch-and-throw abilities from the event, recording 1.94-2.03 pop times and a C velocity of 79 mph, both of which were event bests. Quick transfer with solid accuracy to the second-base bag. Also clocked a 6.97 60-yard dash.

John Gregory SS / Mountain Brook High School, AL / 2029

6-foot-1, 160-pounds. Lean, athletic build with obvious room for physical strength in the future. Has continued to cement himself as one of the top young prospects in Alabama's 2029 class with multiple standout showings at past events, including this one. A projectable right-handed bat with a swing that is simple and uses quick movements to the baseball. Continues to add strength since past viewing and has increased his top EV from 85.1 in January to 95.5 mph at this event. Has a simple stride to be on-time for each swing, and controls the barrel very well through the zone while showcasing a quality feel for the sweet spot of the barrel. Employs an all-fields approach at the plate while staying balanced and athletic throughout the swing. Displays some polish for a prospect of his age offensively. Moves well defensively at shortstop with a reliable glove and above-average arm strength for his age, peaking at 81 mph on throws across the infield. Also trimmed down his 60-yard dash from 7.71 in January to 7.04 at this event. Continues to take big strides forward in terms of development and has a chance to be a big prospect to follow in Alabama's rising freshman class.

Colin Watson OF / Daphne High School, AL / 2027

5-foot-9, 174-pounds. Athletic build with some present strength in the medium frame. One of the more advanced hit tools in Alabama's 2027 class which was showcased throughout a strong sophomore campaign at the varsity level this spring. Hits from a balanced, athletic stance and utilizes a toe-tap trigger for timing. Fluid right-handed swing with tons of bat speed and whip to the barrel allows the ball to jump off the barrel for higher exits to all-fields. Swing stays short and hands stay close to the body during the swing while displaying an innate feel to routinely square up the baseball with each swing. Loose hands through the swing with consistent firm line-drive contact during his round of BP, peaking at 97.1 mph. Also clocked a 6.79 60-yard dash during the workout and showcased the arm strength working up to 91 mph on throws to the plate from the outfield. Quality showing from one of the top outfielders in Alabama's 2027 class.

Christian Thompson C / Alma Bryant High School, AL / 2029

6-foot-0, 185-pounds. Advanced frame with proportional strength throughout. Another high-level prospect in Alabama's rising freshman class who continues to make strides forward and is coming off of an eighth-grade spring where he hit in the heart of the order for the Hurricanes. Offensively, he showcases impressive impact in the barrel for a rising freshman throughout his round of BP with consistent deep drives to the pull-side and a top EV of 91.1 mph. Using an early, controlled stride, the right-hander showcases impressive bat speed for a prospect of his age to help him generate easy pop off the right-handed barrel with more power to come in the future. Mostly pull-side approach during his round of BP. More offensive-minded currently with some ability behind the plate defensively. Has the athleticism to move to a corner spot in the outfield, as well. Multi-sport prospect who will be another rising 2029 prospect to keep close tabs on in the coming years.

Tucker Richardson SS / RHP / Faith Academy, AL / 2030

5-foot-9, 156-pounds. Lean, wiry build with athleticism and obvious projection as a high-level two-way prospect. The youngest player in attendance at the event, but easily emerged as one of the top standouts from the event, regardless of age. Twitchy actions in the right-handed barrel which found routine hard contact to all-fields during his round of BP. Repeatable swing that leads a quick barrel to impact with strong intent to drive gap-to-gap. Toe-tap trigger for timing allows him to be on-time for each pass through the zone. Posted a top EV of 94.6 mph. Also stood out defensively at shortstop, showcasing lateral range and athletic actions all-around. Picks it well with the glove and peaked at 88 mph across the INF with accuracy. Athleticism translates to the mound, where he works from an up-tempo delivery that produces a low-80s fastball with arm-side run. Spins a downer breaking ball with depth at 69-70 mph, and turns over the changeup at 75-76 mph well as a third offering. Impressive day for the rising eighth-grader.
