Public State Semifinal: Preview

The State Semifinal round of the NJSIAA State Tournament begins today with plenty of excitement across the state. Each group has been narrowed down to four teams. The action picks up today, as the remaining teams look to finish off a sucessful season. Today, we will be taking a look at the remaiming teams, matchups, and standout players for each program. 

GROUP 4 SEMIFINALS

The Group 4 final four teams feature, second seeded Passaic Tech from the North 1 bracket, third seeded Westfield from the North 2 bracket, ninth seeded Hillsborough from the Central, and the first seed from the south bracket, Charokee.

Passaic Tech Vs. Westfield
Tech comes in with a 24-6 record on the season and are riding a eight game win streak. Junior catcher and Rutgers commit, Mickey Gilligan has been their top offensive performer while sophomore Jackson Burger has been the teams ace this year. Westfield carries a 19-6 record on the year and have won 11 of their last 13 games. Senior Jake Alfano has led the offense while Brown commit Grant Como has been lights out on the bump. 

Charokee Vs. Hillsborough
The top seed from the south, Charokee holds a 25-3 record this season, all three losses coming in the  middle/end of May. Brett Jackson has been the top performer for the offense and Harvard commit, Brett Gable has been the teams No. 1 on the mound. Hillsborough comes in at 14-10 with a six game win streak, a underdog throughout the tournament. Andrew Advani has put together a quality year at the plate so far and Scranton commit Krish Patel has led the pitching staff.

GROUP 3 SEMIFINALS

The Group 3 final four teams feature, sixth seeded Morris Knolls from the North 1 bracket, third seeded South Plainfield from the North 2 bracket, first seed Northern Burlington from the Central, and the second seeded Toms River East from the south bracket. 

Toms River East Vs. Northern Burlington 
East comes in at 20-6 on the year and winners of their last six games. Pitt recruit, Matthew Ferrara has carried the offense and Dan Nafziger has been unhittable on the mound. Northern Burlington is 26-2, winners of nine of their last 10 games. Nick Dromboski has been outstanding at the plate hitting at a .500+ clip and the pitching staff has been held down by Rowan commit, Luca Mannino.

Morris Knolls Vs. South Plainfield
Morris Knolls is 14-11, riding a eight game win streak, the six seed is making a run in this tournament thanks to St. John's commit Dylan Fitzsimmons at the plate and Dean Kalecher on the mound. South Plainfield has a 18-10 record going in to this game. The Tigers offense is led by junior, Dom Massaro and the is held down by Aiden McCarthy.

GROUP 2 SEMIFINALS

The Group 2 final four teams feature, sixth seeded Glen Rock from the North 1 bracket, fourth seeded West Morris from the North 2 bracket, first seed Gov. Livingston from the Central, and the first seeded Haddonfield from the south bracket. 

Glen Rock Vs. West Morris
The Glen Rock Panthers carry a record of 24-5 as well as a 11 game win streak that they are on heading into the semifinals. Evan Lagemann has been more than impressive so far season hitting .550+. West Morris is currently 19-10, Jake Novello carries the offense as Liam Costello has been impressive on thge mound. 

Haddonfield Vs. Gov. Livingston
The Bulldogs are 24-5 and are riding a eight game win streak. Jackson Gayer has led the offense so far with Martin Foust being the ace on the mound. Gov. Livingston is currently undefeated and has a 26-0 record. Virginia commit, Zach Geertsma has been outstanding at the plate while Matthew Diskin had a sub-1 ERA. 

GROUP 1 SEMIFINALS

The Group 1 final four teams feature, second seeded Midland park from the North 1 bracket, fourth seeded Brearley from the North 2 bracket, first seed Middlesex from the Central, and the second seeded Schalick from the south bracket. 

Midland Park Vs. Brearley
The Panthers are 20-8-1, Anthony Carrera leads the bats for Midland and the pitching staff is led by senior Connor Detrick. Brearley is currently 15-9, riding a sox game win streak. The offense and pitching staff is led by senior Boston College commit Sean Budis

Middlesex Vs. Schalick 
The Middlesex Blue Jays are 21-5 and riding a six game win streak, sophomore Dominic Long is having an impressive year at the plate and Chris Kozak has been unhittable this season carrying a sub-1 ERA. For Schalick, a 22-2 record going into the semifinals, winning 12 of their last 13 games. Luke Pokrovsky has been the top offensive and pitching perfomer this season.
