Non-Public State Tournament: Semifinal Wrap Up

The Semifinal round of the NJSIAA Non-Public State Tournament wrapped up with plenty of excitement across all brackets. Each bracket featured two games, narrowing the field down to just two teams remaining in each. The Semifinals delivered its fair share of upsets, as lower-seeded teams rose to the occasion and knocked off favorites. There were also standout performances from both teams and individual players, setting the tone for what promises to be an intense and competitive tournament. The action picks back up tomorrow with the Sectional Championship round, as the remaining teams look to take one step closer to the ultimate goal: winning two more games and being crowned Sectional champion. Today, we will be taking a look at the results from yesterday's Non-Public games.
NORTH A BRACKET
+ In the North A bracket, top seeded Don Bosco Prep took down fourth seeded Delbarton 8-6, The Ironmen were down 6-1 after three innings, a hits and walks in the bottom of the fourth cut the lead to three until Virginia commit Nick Becker stepped up to the place and crushed a home run to left to knot the game up at six. Later, in the bottom of the fifth inning, Junzen Sarza got in the box with the bases loaded and two outs and drove a single into center, scoring two and taking a 8-6 lead, eventually turning into the game winning hit for Don Bosco. Becker and Sarza both finished with three RBIs. In the bottom half of the bracket, DePaul upset Seton Hall Prep in a high scoring extra inning game with a final score of 12-10, advancing to the Sectional final. Arizona State commit, J.C. Pacheco had two hits, including a double and three RBIs.
SOUTH A BRACKET
+ In the South, the top two seeds advance to the Sectional championship after Christian Brothers took down St. Joseph (Met.) 6-3 and Red Bank Catholic beat St. Augustine 9-8. Christian Brothers Michigan commit Dylan Iwanyk had two RBIs in the ball game and Dylan Reynholds had a double and scored three runs. For Red Bank Catholic, a comeback win sends them to the Sectional championship. Red Bank went to the bottom of the seventh down 8-2, a seven run bottom of the innings sent them to the next round, an improbable comeback that could carry momentum into the Sectional final.
NORTH B BRACKET
+ No. 1 seed, Montclair Kimberley edged St. Thomas Aquinas 2-0 thanks to an outstanding performance by Alessandro Rizio, the senior started on the mound, tossing a complete game allowing no runs, three hits, one walk, and struck out nine. Offensively, Rizio drove in the onlt two runs of the ball game with a two run homer in the first inning, carrying Montclair to the Sectional championship. Pope John upset Morristown-Beard 6-3, Evan Johnson had two hits and two runs scored while Scranton commit Jack Portman had two hits, two RBIs, and a run scored.
SOUTH B BRACKET
+ South B showed both top seeds advancing to the Sectional championship as Gloucester Catholic beat Ranney 12-3, East Carolina commit Braeden Lipoff had a big day at the plate with two hits including a double, run, and four RBIs. Starting pitcher and Coastal Carolina Jackson Smallets tossed a CG with one earned run allowed, no walks, and seven strikeouts. Bishop Eustace took down third seas Doane Academy 9-3, Max Sullivan had a inpressive day with the bat, finished 1-for-2 with a run scored, HR, and five RBIs.
