North Carolina Class of 2027: Rankings Update

Throughout the spring season, Prep Baseball North Carolina scouts were hard at work, covering over 320 games across the state to evaluate high school talent. With the summer now underway, our focus shifts to updating class rankings—this week featuring the Class of 2027.

Summer Spotlight: Let the Madness Begin

The early part of summer is a pivotal time for the 2027 class. These players are working to be seen and to earn spots on recruiting boards across the country. As July approaches, attention turns toward the premier event for uncommitted underclassmen—the Prep Baseball Future Games. This showcase will bring together top 2027 talent from across North America, and Team North Carolina is expected to be a standout squad. With a full workout day followed by three competitive game days, these players will perform in front of over 400 college coaches in attendance.

As college programs finalize their watch lists, Prep Baseball Player Profiles will serve as a key resource for recruiters. Athletes who participate in Prep Baseball events benefit from updated stats, advanced analytics, and video—all visible to the more than 1,000 colleges and universities subscribed to the platform. These profiles allow recruiters to track performance trends and build detailed evaluations ahead of the upcoming August 1 contact period, when coaches can officially reach out to the 2027 class through phone calls, texts, and campus visits.

Rankings Expansion & Evaluation Process

The updated Class of 2027 Rankings now expand to the Top 225 players in North Carolina—a significant increase as more players emerge and develop. This list is expected to evolve further over the next few months, especially following summer showcase events and national tournaments.

Prep Baseball’s ranking process is methodical and objective. Each player is evaluated through in-person scouting, event data, and video analysis. Once a player grade is assigned, they are entered into a class-specific database. To reduce bias, all identifying information is hidden while rankings are sorted based solely on player and tool grades. Once ordered, names are reintroduced and final edits are made for accuracy and fairness.

Rankings Risers

While Prep Baseball scouts are working the road, seeing over 300 high school games this past spring, player evaluations and grades are being updated.   While players can have an adjusement made to their player evaluation, that does not necessarily reflect in the rankings as part of the rankings process is dependent on the other players in the list.

These players saw an uptick in their player evaluation lead to significant changes in their state ranking.

Caleb Lynn OF / RHP / Cleveland, NC / 2027

Up 9 Spots in the Rankings

Spring Scout Blog Notes:
Proportional build. Defined strength present. Thin, athletic frame. Listed at 5-foot-9, 150 pounds. Has twitch. Moves with ease in the outfield. Easy catch. Has trust in the hands. Clean arm action and athletic release with good carry and accuracy during infield/outfield. Left handed hitter facing a good left handed arm. Simple setup. Balanced base. Lacks a consistent load. Average stride. Quick hands. Works flat, wanting extension. Advanced runner.

Harrison Corey SS / RHP / D.H. Conley, NC / 2027

Up 13 Spots in the Rankings

Spring Scout Blog Notes:
Average frame and solid mover down the hill. No specific height and weight available but in the 5-foot-10 range. Strength present. Coils around the back hip through the leg lift, working level. Lands on-line and square with his foot-strike. Medium arm action to an over-the-top slot. Athletic arm action. Very quick arm. Fastball bumped 90 early, sitting 86-88 throughout the outing. Soft contact, lacking swing and miss in this outing. Slider at 76-78, 2600-2750rpm. Early 10/4 tilt. More horizontal action than depth. Around the zone throughout. Lacked pure feel for any one spot on either pitch. High level competitor, made some of his best pitches in tighter situations. Down a bit from previous outings but found a way to continue to put his club in positive positions. Will be a high level follow entering the summer and into his Junior year.

Mason Hawkins 3B / RHP / Needham Broughton, NC / 2027

Spring Scout Blog Notes:

John Hucko OF / Charlotte Catholic, NC / 2027

Up 37 Spots in the Rankings

Spring Scout Blog Notes:
Average build. 5-foot-11, 180 pounds. Left handed hitter produced 3 barrels in 3 chances in the game. Two singles back up the box and an E6 on a hard hit ball to the shortstop’s left. Excellent rhythm. “Hitterish” in the box. Slightly open and tall, pressed back onto the back side in his setup. Hands work off the back shoulder with loose, relaxed swaying. Small, quiet leg kick works to an average stride, landing back even. Stable head. Active and aggressive back side. Direct hand path. Flat through the zone. Line drive, gap to gap approach. Good feel for the barrel facing quality arms. Average to above bat speed.
Took the bump in the 6th in a tight game. Fastball at 86-87, touching 88. Curveball had soft, 2/8 tilt at 72-73.

Caleb Case RHP / D H Conley High, NC / 2027

Up 13 Spots in the Rankings

Spring Scout Blog Notes:
Average build. 6-foot-2, 190 pounds. Coils the lower half around the back hip. Level, lands on-line and square. Long arm swing. Arm bottoms out just off his back hip. Elbow lead to the cocking phase. High-¾ slot. Solid arm speed. Good direction. Works with intent. Athletic mover down the hill. Stuff played above radar readings. Several good hitters took awkward swings. Something about Case’s release and stuff creates issues for hitters to center. Fastball at 83-85. Down in the zone and controlled the glove side of the plate. Breaking ball has depth at 71. Slight hump out of the hand.

Jaxon Haynes OF / LHP / Providence, NC / 2027

Up 13 Spots in the Rankings

Spring Scout Blog Notes:
Lean. Long frame. 6-foot-1, 165 pounds. Left handed hitter put together solid at-bats throughout the night. Slightly open and pressed back on the back leg just a bit. Hands work off the back shoulder. Stable with some waggle in the bat head as it lays flat. Small weight shift back and small leg kick for a load. Bat head stabilizes into launch. Small stride. Works flat through the zone. Has quickness. Stayed on the ball with a single to shortstop, running 4.51 down the line. Young player with an intriguing frame and athleticism.

Caleb Renn LHP / 1B / Holly Springs, NC / 2027

Up 16 Spots in the Rankings:

Spring Scout Blog Notes:
Our scouting staff ran into Renn twice early in the season.  While the stuff was similar to grades at the Preseason All-State East event., it was his poise and pitch-ability in game action that saw the overall player grade rise. Renn has feel for the game and the ability to manipulate his stuff.  As his stuff continues to grow, he is setup to see his prospect continue to rise.

Eli Cash RHP / C / Corinth Holders, NC / 2027

Up 35 Spots in the Rankings

Spring Scout Blog Notes:
Second sighting of Cash by our staff this spring. Lean frame with an athletic arm and release. Has been used in relief most of the year, but got the start in the Pirates 2nd game of this event. Fastball sat 83-84. Breaking ball has solid depth with a bit of an early turn at 67-68. Attacked the zone. Solid athlete around the mound.

Odin Ginader RHP / OF / Marvin Ridge High, NC / 2027

Up 13 Spots in the Rankings

Spring Scout Blog Notes:
Very efficient, attacking hitters. Groundball machine. Minimal movement in the upper half until breaking of the hands. Steps slightly toward left-handed hitter and likes to recoil on follow through. Ability to throw any pitch in any count. Showed good poise and pitched with good tempo, fun to play behind inducing contact and allow defense to stay engaged. Young pitcher to keep eyes on. 15 first pitch strikes of 25 hitters faced. 92 pitches total, averaging 13 pitches per inning.
