Non-Public State Tournament: Day 3 Wrap Up

The quarterfinal round of the NJSIAA State Tournament wrapped up with plenty of excitement across all brackets. Each bracket featured four games, narrowing the field down to just four teams remaining in each. The second round delivered its fair share of upsets, as lower-seeded teams rose to the occasion and knocked off favorites. There were also standout performances from both teams and individual players, setting the tone for what promises to be an intense and competitive tournament. The action picks back up tomorrow with the semifinal round, as the remaining teams look to take one step closer to the ultimate goal: winning two more games and being crowned state champion. Today, we will be taking a look at the results from last week's Non-public games.
NORTH A BRACKET
+ In the North section, Don Bosco Prep mercied Oratory Prep 10-0 while Delbarton needed a late inning rally to beat fifth seeded Bergen Catholic, 7-4. Top ranked 2027 Finnian O’Loughlin had two hits and two RBI, including a triple while Notre Dame commit Jamie Zee Jr. had two hits and two runs scored in his last high school game for Bergen Catholic. DePaul Catholic took care of business against St. Peter’s Prep, 9-2. Ramapo College commit Derek Brand went yard for DePaul. Finally, Seton Hall Prep rolled over St. Joe’s Montvale, 12-2. Wake Forest commit Marcelo Harsch went six strong innings, allowing four hits and striking out 10 for SHP.
SOUTH A BRACKET
+ In the South section, Christian Brothers blanked Paul VI 2-0 behind a complete game shutout by Danny DiTullio - who allowed just four hits and struck out nine. St. Joe’s Metuchen continued its hot streak, topping Immaculata 5-4. In the bottom half of the bracket, St. Augustine and Red Bank Catholic advanced to face one another, with wins 8-6 and 11-1, respectively.
NORTH B BRACKET
+ In the North, Montclair Kimberley squeaked past Newark Academy 1-0 while St. Thomas Aquinas beat Rutgers Prep, 6-1. Pope John beat St. Mary’s Rutherford 5-4 and Morristown-Beard blanked Hawthorne Christian 4-0.
SOUTH B BRACKET
+ In the South, Gloucester Catholic rolled Holy Cross 11-0. Jack Mustaro had two hits and six RBI for GC. Ranney beat Holy Spirit 11-5 with Justin Kauffman going 4-4 at the plate and throwing 4.2IP. Brayden Cox, Brody Mauro, and LSU commit Ricky Lopez all homered for Ranney. In th bottom half of the bracket, Doane Academy beat Princeton Day 7-4 while Bishop Eustace edged passed St. Rose 2-1. St. Rose’s Pittsburgh commit Peter Nolan got the hard luck loss, going 5IP and striking out 11 while Georgetown commit Eamon McDermott went 6IP and struck out 11 for Bishop Eustace.
