Group 2 State Tournament: Semifinal Wrap up

The semifinal round of the Group 2 NJSIAA State Tournament wrapped up with plenty of excitement across all brackets. Each bracket featured two games, narrowing the field down to just two teams remaining in each. The semifinal round delivered its fair share of upsets, as lower-seeded teams rose to the occasion and knocked off favorites. There were also standout performances from both teams and individual players, setting the tone for what promises to be an intense and competitive tournament. The action picks back up later today with the Sectional finals, as the remaining teams look to finish off a sucessful season. Today, we will be taking a look at the results from the group 2 semifinal games.
NORTH 1 BRACKET
+ In the North 1 bracket, Pascack Valley moved on to the Sectional championship on a wakoff in the 9th inning against Mahwah. Joe Tammaro scored twice and had two hits, Colin McMorrow scored a run and had three hits. Six seeded Glen Rock mercied second seeded Vernon 11-0 in five innings. Sean Spitaleri had a home run and four RBIs, Wyatt Morrissey scored twice and had two doubles.
NORTH 2 BRACKET
+ The North 2 bracket features a No. 11 seed in the championship as Mendham took down Bernards 4-3 in a eight inning semifinal game. Sully Dunn had three hits for Mendham includuing two doubles and a run. Four seed West Morris advanced to the championship after beating top seeded West Essex 8-0. West Morris drew 13 walks in the ballgame and the West Morris pitching staff was stellar allowing just one hit all game.
CENTRAL BRACKET
+ The No. 1 seeded Gov. Livingston snuck past Raritan 3-2 after scoring all three runs in the bottom of the seventh, walking off the five seed. Ryan Pappas had two doubles and an RBI and Stetson commit Matty Diskin tallied two hits including a double. Second seeded Robbinsville beat Bordentown 3-2 on a walkoff past ball in the bottom of the seventh. Robbinsville starting pitcher and Pitt commit Tyler Bunnell tossed six innings and struck out 11.
SOUTH BRACKET
+ In the South, top seeded Haddonfield beat five seeded West Deptford 9-3. Jackson Gayer had a stadout performance finishing 3-for-4 with a run, double, and five RBIs, carrying Haddonfield to the Sectional Championship. Six seeded Collingswood upset second seeded Haddon Heights 11-0. Andrew Schell had four hits, two runs, five RBIs, and a double, while starting pitcher Miles DeVincentis tossed six shutout innings, striking out seven.
