Chicagoland Preseason ID: Pitcher Analysis

By: Illinois Scouting Staff

On Saturday, February 22nd, the Prep Baseball Illinois staff traveled to Chicago, IL for the Chicago Preseason ID held at the Pullman Community Center. This event is a great opportunity for our staff to get a look at players from the central part of the state, as well as the surrounding areas.

RHP Bernabe Astorga III (Eisenhower, 2025) is an unsigned senior to know from the event that was up to 83 mph on the mound.

RHP Alex Ziegler (Lane Tech, 2026) is another uncommitted name from the event that spun it well, also showcasing a fastball up to 84 mph.

A pair of southpaw arms showed well at the event and just missed the cut in Carlos Gonzalez (Taft, 2027) and Ameer Rule (Brooks College Prep, 2026).

Gonzalez showed to be a quality mover down the mound while running his fastball up to 81 mph while mixing in a downer curveball.

Rule flashed explosiveness downhill while working his fastball in the 80-82 mph range (T83) with a sharp 12/6 curveball.

Today we are beginning our post-event rollout with a look at all the pitchers from the day, along with a ranking of who our staff deemed as the top pitching prospects.
