FORT MYERS, FL
– The 2025 FHSAA Class 2A Baseball State Championships at Hammond Stadium delivered a riveting three-game saga, with The First Academy Royals claiming the title through a blend of clutch hitting, dominant pitching, and steadfast defense. Overcoming Trinity Christian Academy, Berkeley Prep, and Saint Andrew’s, the Royals showcased their depth and determination, culminating in a commanding championship victory that lit up the Fort Myers night.

Semifinal: Trinity Christian Academy vs. Berkeley Prep

The journey began on Tuesday, May 13, as the Trinity Christian Academy Conquerors faced the Berkeley Prep Buccaneers in a pitcher’s duel that hinged on one critical moment. Aaron Watson was a force on the mound for Trinity Christian, tossing a complete-game shutout, allowing just one hit, striking out seven, and walking two to earn the win. Berkeley Prep’s Rivers Kurland battled valiantly, surrendering one run on eight hits over six innings with five strikeouts, but took the loss.

Trinity Christian struck early in the first inning, as a Jordan Martinez double plated the game’s only run, securing a 1-0 lead. Brady Harris, Martinez, and Chris Reali each collected two hits.

Berkeley Prep’s Ben O’Brien collected their only hit of the game, but Watson's dominance carried TCA to the Championship Game.

Semifinal: The First Academy vs. Saint Andrew’s

In the other semifinal, The First Academy Royals edged out the Saint Andrew’s Scots in a tightly contested 3-2 battle that showcased their pitching depth and timely hitting. The Royals struck first in the bottom of the first, as Roy Rodriguez’s single drove in a run for a 1-0 lead. Saint Andrew’s answered immediately, capitalizing on an error to tie the game at 1-1.

The First Academy’s Kyle Hopper was stellar on the mound, allowing two unearned runs on five hits over six innings, striking out nine, and walking none to earn the win. Blake Fields tossed a scoreless inning in relief, shutting the door on Saint Andrew’s comeback hopes. The Royals’ offense was balanced, with Max Simmons, Kinon Bastian, Erick Martinez, Rodriguez, Cannon Koronka, and Fields each collecting a hit. Bastian led with two RBIs, going 1-for-3.

Saint Andrew’s Michael Tight took the loss, allowing three runs on five hits over 4.1 innings with three strikeouts. Carter Derks paced the Scots with a 2-for-3 day, keeping the game close. But The First Academy’s pitching and clutch hits propelled them to the championship.

Final: The First Academy vs. Trinity Christian Academy

On Wednesday, May 14, The First Academy and Trinity Christian Academy clashed for the Class 2A title in a game that showcased the Royals’ offensive firepower. Trinity Christian struck first in the top of the first, as Aiden Arnett’s solo home run to right field gave them a 1-0 lead. But The First Academy responded in the second, with Kinon Bastian’s single down the right-field line plating a run to take a 2-1 advantage.

The Royals extended their lead in the third, as Erick Martinez’s double to left field drove in a run, making it 3-1. They piled on four more runs, finishing with a 7-2 victory. Martinez was the star, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI, while Thomas Achey earned the win, allowing two runs on four hits over six innings with seven strikeouts.
