Unsigned Upperclass Spotlight: SS/3B Nathan Horstmann
May 8, 2025
The high school season is coming to a close as players start to turn their focus towards the summer circuit. The 2025 preseason showcase schedule got started in January with the Utah Preseason ID that featured roughly 60 prospects. We follow up the Preseason ID with our marquee event ahead of the HS season, the prestigeous Utah Preseason All-State that featured roughly 130 prospects with a large crop of the top talent in the State participating.
Our staff has had eyes on over 190 players these past couple months and with summer just about to begin, there is still a ton of quality uncommitted talent on the board in Utah's upperclass group. Over the next couple weeks, our staff will begin highlighting some of these names in our Unsigned Upperclass Spotlight—players who need to be on the radar of college coaches looking to round out their 2025 and 2026 classes.
We continue our Top Uncommitted Upperclass Spotlight Series with '26 SS/3B Nathan Horstmann out of the Corner Canyon HS program. Horstmann has a projectible frame and has impressed at mulitple Prep Baseball events putting up an exit velo of 98.6mph and a max distance of 381ft.

Scouting Report
Nathan Horstmann, Corner Canyon (UT), 2026
Positional Profile: 3B/SS One of my favs, not only in his class, but the state in general. An all around solid D1 mid-major prospect, with 2B's power to all fields and HR power with wood as well to the pull side. Plays a solid if unspectacular 3B and show arm strength. A Future Games alum.
Body: 6-0, 183-pounds. Med to Lg frame with well props features and solid definition to his lower 1/2. Looks the part of a next level type prospect.
Hit: RHH. Crouched even prop stance with his hands held high and cocked into his load Solid slightly uphill stroke with mostly a flatter bat path, to eleviate the swing and miss. 72.6 mph bat speed with 12 G's of rotational acceleration.
Power: 99 max exit velocity, averaged 81.2 mph. 328' max distance. All fields 2B's power with LD carry and slight loft and shows pull side juice even with wood. The Power does and is starting to play in games.
Arm: RH. INF-84 mph. Loose EZ classic efficient arm stroke, that can throw from muliple arm angles.
Defense: Instinctually sound player that shows a knack for making plays. Would like to see him mix in some 2B play in the summer to gauge his versatility
ATH: 6.91 runner in the 60. Gliding runner with long strides and EZ gate at a 6.91/60
Vizual Edge: 76.4 Edge Score
Uncommitted. 6-foot-0, 183-pounds. Strong and leveraged swing that is fun to watch. Utilizes everything from the ground-up and leverages the bat through the zone with dangerous implications. Mashed a 3-run homerun on Friday (9/27) with ease; 347 feet/ 97.1 exit velocity. Simple set-up with a tad more weight in the back leg, hands coiled with elbow up high that don’t move during his load. Hands move through the zone effortlessly and connect bat-to-barrel with strong and consistent contact. Strength with simple mechanics that produced at the plate all weekend. Fun to watch and a high follow.
1st team all region (6A Region 2) 6A 2nd team All state 6A State Championship Runner Up Horstmann had a really good sophomore season at Corner Canyon as he hit over .400 hitting in the middle of the Chargers lineup and helped propel his club to a 6A State Runner-Up finish. A cousin by marriage, as his fathers first cousin is Kacee Sogard, who is married to longtime former MLB infielder Eric Sogard. Nathan works in the offseason and periodically on trips to Tennessee to visit the Sogard’s. Nathan had one of the better rounds of BP and overall workouts at the Future Games and was named to Shooter Hunt's top 75 workout day standouts. The two rounds were crisp and clean and squared every ball up on a line to LCF-LF on a line and took a professional round of BP. A solid 3B, with soft hands and educated feet for a 16 year old. The arm plays avg on the MLB scale right now and looks to be solid avg moving forward with a proper arm circle and path. Has the athletic movement patterns you look for in a quality INF’er and as he adds additional strength and size, while still maturing, you are looking at a future D1 3B, that could also slide over across the diamond and be an offensive minded 2B, if the LD gap power doesn’t translate into big corner power? The LD bat suggests a high avg, high on-base % type right now, as he has a feel for the zone and has pitch recognition and can recognize spin. It will be fun to see where this all ends up?!
