Day one and two of the NJSIAA State Tournament wrapped up with plenty of excitement across all brackets. Each bracket featured a handful of games, much of the state was covered in rain on Day 2, although some games were able to be played. Luckily, most of the games were played on Day 1 and will be again on Day 3. The opening round delivered its fair share of upsets, as lower-seeded teams rose to the occasion and knocked off favorites. There were also standout performances from both teams and individual players, setting the tone for what promises to be an intense and competitive tournament. The action picks back up today with some first round games as the remaining teams look to take one step closer to the ultimate goal: winning three more games and being crowned state champion. Today, we will be taking a look at the results from yesterday's non-public games.

NORTH A BRACKET

+ Oratory beat Paramus Catholic 8-1. Brendan Keown had three hits and three RBI for Oratory. They advance to take on top seeded Don Bosco Prep. Sixth-seeded St. Peter’s Prep, our pick for the dark horse of this bracket, slides past 11th-seeded St. Benedicts 4-3. St. Benedicts made it interesting in the top of the 7th, scoring three runs, but freshman Anthony Huaranga was able to come in a slam the door, walking one and striking out one. Ray Stein delivered a standout performance on the mound for St. Peter’s, going six innings, scattering four hits and striking out 12. St. Peter’s only amassed one hit in the game, but took advantage of walks to plate four runs. Jeremy Mercado homered for St. Benedicts and drove in two in a losing effort. Seventh seeded St. Joe’s Montvale pummeled 10th seeded Dwight-Englewood, 11-0 - just sneaking the game in ahead of the rain. 2026 Ryan McCabe had two hits and Kevin Comblo (2027; TCU) had two RBIs. Logan Jarer threw a complete game shutout for the Green Knights, going five innings and allowing just one hit and striking out four.

SOUTH A BRACKET

+ Immaculata rolls over Camden Catholic, 12-2. Jayson Labrador (2025; Babson) had three hits and three RBI while Wake Forest commit Ryan Auten punched out nine in five innings. Immaculata advances to play St. Joseph Metuchen. The rest of the south A bracket games will be played this evening.

NORTH B BRACKET

+ 10th seeded Hawthorne Christian shocks seventh seeded Gill St. Bernard’s, 3-2. Eli Higby had three hits while Matt Altomare went a complete game scattering five hits and striking out five for HC. Eighth seeded Newark Academy tops ninth seeded Morris Catholic, 11-1. Jared Levine went a complete game five innings and struck out eight while Caleb Epstein had three RBIs.
