The 2025 WIAA 3A State Tournament begins with regional action this Saturday, May 24th. 16 teams will compete at 4 various 'regional' sites in a single elimination bracket that will ultimately send 4 teams to Yakima, WA for the semifinals and finals.

Semifinal actions begins on Friday, May 30th with the winners advancing to play for the state championship on Saturday, May 31st. Number one seed Mount Vernon will look to get over the hump after finishing as runner-up last season, while defending champion West Seattle also rejoins the field.

Earlier this week, we unveiled our 4A Regional Previews and Staff Picks article. Below are Prep Baseball Washington's regional previews for each of the four 3A sites, as well as our staff's picks for the entire state tournament.

Mount Vernon Regional

#1 Mount Vernon vs. #16 O'Dea
#8 Decatur vs. #9 North Thurston

After falling just short last season, Mount Vernon enters the 2025 state tournament with high expectations. The Bulldogs have been the wire-to-wire top ranked 3A side in our Power 25 Rankings this spring. Mount Vernon is led by senior SS/RHP Xavier Neyens, the top ranked 2025 in the state and a player whose name many people expect to be called in the first round of this summer's MLB Draft. MV features plenty of other talent on the roster as well. Senior RHP Brody Olmsted has been a workhorse on the mound all spring. The lineup has great depth, with Dylan Jacobs and Bode Webb as middle of the order bats with thump, as well as Baird Brewer and Brady Collins as on-base threats. The Bulldogs will face a tough 16 seed in O'Dea, who won their play-in game over Central Kitsap earlier this week. O'Dea has plenty of seniors with varsity experience, including a pair Seattle University commits in Davonn Abaga and Jordan Holloway. Seniors Briggs Ellis and Quincey Brown have been hot lately at the plate. In the second matchup, #8 seed Decatur may feel a chip on their shoulders on being underseeded, after finishing 21-4 in a great season to this point. Seniors Eric Havili and Spencer Holloway have led the way atop the lineup all spring. Sophomores Cervantes Gatterson and Ethan Flavel have produced at the plate consistently. RHP's Hunter Buol and Tyler Buol will likely see big innings this weekend. North Thurston enter the state tournament at 17-6. The Rams are led by Rudy Larson, who has allowed a miniscule 2 earned runs with 58 K in 35 innings this season. Junior Kole French leads the team in hitting, while Jaylen Kennedy, Zachary Albright, and Ethan Shaefer will all contribute at the dish as well. Four teams with high hopes will battle it out at Mount Vernon's home grounds this Saturday.

Gig Harbor Regional

#2 Gig Harbor vs. #15 West Seattle
#7 Inglemoor vs. #10 Capital

Gig Harbor has surpassed expectations all season long, entering the state tournament 23-2 and with real hopes of contending for a state title. The Tides have a balanced lineup that can really swing it, led by seniors Ethan Mar, Cole Krilich, Jayce Corley, and Daniel Porras. RHP Quentin Bockhorn has had a breakout spring and is one of the better uncommitted junior arms in the state. Gig Harbor faces a tough first round matchup in defending champions West Seattle. The Wildcats won their play-in game over University and are led by senior 1B Lukas Cheha, who is hitting as well as anyone as of late. Lincoln Scott and Cole Williamson are other bats to watch, while Jake McCall figures to see action on the mound. In the second game, 7 seeded Inglemoor enters as winners of 6 straight, finishing 16-6 overall. Experienced players lead the way offensively in Cooper Richter and Connor Dowell. Junior Levi Stark and sophomore Brody Ledger have had success on the mound, each logging over 30 innings this season. They'll face a Capital side that was in and out of the Power 25 all season. The Cougars feature an upperclassman core that can hit for power when right, including Jacob Muench, Gavin Dolan, and Lucas Redman. Sophomore Brooks Barker is a dynamic athlete that can change the game with his speed and defense. Four teams with legitimate shots to advance make up an interesting regional that will take place in Tacoma.

Kennewick Regional

#3 Kennewick vs. #14 Snohomish
#6 Stanwood vs. #11 Enumclaw

This regional, which will take place in the Tri-Cities, may be looked at as the most likely to see a low seed advance to Yakima. Kennewick will look to repel these notions as the hosting 3 seed after exiting early in each of the past two postseasons. The Lions have won their last 10 in a row and are 18-4 overall. Seniors Dane Chavez and Dierks Chavez form a great up the middle duo, while junior Dylan Mamiya is a standout player that can impact the game with his plus speed. Dominic Driver is another player who has emerged in the middle of the order. Kennewick will face a Snohomish side coming off of a play-in victory on Tuesday. The Panthers are 17-8 and are highlighted by sophomore catcher Landon Klein, who has broken out in a huge way so far in 2025. Luke Davis and Trevor Vorderbruggen have shouldered the bulk of the innings so far this spring. Stanwood somewhat quietly enters the state tournament at 18-5 as the 6 seed. Junior Tanner Requa is having an incredible season for the Spartans, allowing just 7 earned runs in 52 IP while also nearly leading the team in batting average. Gavin Gehrman and Luke Brennan are seniors that have been steady in the lineup as well. Enumclaw will face Stanwood and are another team that may be underseeded after going 18-5 to this point. The Hornets have as good of an arm as any team leading them in Oregon commit Cooper Markham. Pitching depth behind Markham is a bit of a question mark, but the bats could well be the difference, led by Graham Wagner, Hunter Anderson, Eli Murphy, and Landon Wall. A pair of great matchups that could go either way make for an intruiging regional this weekend.

Ballard Regional

#4 Ballard vs. #13 Shorewood
#5 Peninsula vs. #12 Eastside Catholic

This regional set features teams that have gotten hot down the stretch of the season. Ballard, the host team, has been consistent all spring and enters the state tournament at 18-6, winners of 4 straight. Senior catcher and UCLA commit Truitt Madonna is one of the most imposing bats in the state, hitting over .420 with 7 home runs. Aiden DePaula has had an incredible season on the mound, while Dylan Wallblom leads the team in innings and has thrown great as well. Fischer Witt and Brady Miailovich are other top of the order hitters who could make a difference. Shorewood will face Ballard after defeating 20 seed Ridgeline on Tuesday. Jameson Connolly has been a standout two-way player for the Stormrays. RHP Joey Facilia has also been dominant on the mound, while INF Kanata Barber has one of the smoother LH swings and is a stellar on-base threat. In the second matchup, a great 5/12 matchup includes 5 seed Peninsula, who won their district championship over Gig Harbor last weekend. Kainoa Coit and Johnathan Vergara-Dykes lead the team in hitting, while INF/C Pete Browand is a physical sophomore that can impact a game with power and defensive skill. Several arms have contributed to a more balanced rotation, including Hayden Bundy and John Browand. They'll face an Eastside Catholic side that had to win their last two games to advance to the state tournament. Catcher Ryan Long and INF Micah Bartle have swung it well as of late, while RHP/OF Will Crain looks to be healthy as a two-way player. Freshman OF Kobe Reese has the ability to change a game at the plate as well. The Crusaders finished 4th in state last season and look to return to the semi's. Prep Baseball staff could see any team realistically advance in this group, which should provide for some great games at Bannerwood.
