At The Yard Podcast: New Episode LIVE now!
ELk Grove, Calif. - On Tuesday, June 10th, the Prep Baseball California team hosted a Summer ID at Franklin High School.
A talented group of 20+ players made their way out to Lancaster to participate both in a showcase-style workout and live at bats over the course of the day. Position players and two-way players started their day with electronic height, weight and grip testing before beginning their athletic testing by running a 60-yard dash on our laser timing system from VALD (providing 10 yard, 30 yard and 60 yard splits with a max run speed). From there the group underwent a defensive evaluation with Outfielders making multiple throws to 3B and home plate on video with their arm strength being recorded via a Stalker radar gun. Next up the Infielders undewent defensive evaulations with video and arm strength readings with 3Bs working out at their spot, middle infielders all working out at SS and 1Bs from 1B. Finally, Catchers completed the defensive workout by making multiple throws to 2B with pop times and arm strength readings with video. During the batting practice portion of the day all hitters in attendance had their swing metrics gathered via Blast Motion technologies to provide valuable information on their swing, batted ball data was provided from Trackman technologies and all swings are recorded via video. The pitchers or two-way players in attendance each would face five-six live hitters during the live at bats portion of the day with all pitches being tracked via Trackman technologies and video recorded of their deliveries and pitch shapes.

William Walbridge 1B / Serra High School / 2027Walbridge is another power lefty bat that was lighting up the trackman numbers from the Sacramento Summer ID, he stands at 6’4” 249.1 lbs, displaying his grip strength with his right hand of 122 and 119 with his left. Walbridge stands out physically of the group, his 60 yard dash came in at 8.07 with a peak run speed of 16.5 mph. Walbridge has a lot of juice to the poolside, there were times in BP where he would roll over some, but when he flattened everything out, he managed to lace balls to the opposite gap. Walbridge hits the ball hard and when he figures out how to get more base hits, like Busalacchi, he is going to be a guy doing damage. Walbridge had an average EV of 92.4 mph. Walbridge is an improving athlete and will continue to work on getting the power to the gaps. Walbridge has another big summer ahead of him as he will play for NorCal U and travel the country on the summer circuit. There’s a ton of potential when you look at Walbridge, I think with some added time and maturity he is going to be able to put it all together. I know he's making postive strides off the field, it will be a fun one to follow. |

Kyle McMillan SS/RHP / St.Francis High School / 2027Kyle McMillan, a right-handed pitcher (RHP) and shortstop (SS) from St. Francis High School class of 2027, is a standout two-way prospect. He has a medium, lean frame with room to add strength as he develops. On the mound, McMillan delivers from a compact, repeatable motion with a clean, high 3/4 arm slot. His fastball, recently updated to 84-85 mph, features tailing action and strong command for his age. His slider (69-73 mph) shows 11/5 shape with good arm speed and developing depth, while his changeup (71-73 mph) excels with sinking action and deceptive arm speed, making it a plus pitch. At shortstop, McMillan exhibits quick feet, excellent lateral range, and reliable hands, with an infield velocity of 87 mph producing accurate throws, solidifying his potential at the position. Offensively, he employs a tall, open stance with a smooth stride, generating a 100.1 mph exit velocity for consistent line drives and future gap power. His 7.16-second 60-yard dash reflects above-average speed. An event-best Visual Edge score of 84.63 highlights exceptional pitch recognition. McMillan’s athleticism, coachability, and high-level metrics mark him as a top 2027 prospect. |

Chase Dyer SS / RHP / Elk Grove High School / 2027Dyer played primarily shortstop for the Elk Grove Thundering Herd this season, he also plays football in the fall so there is definitely some athleticism. Dyer I thought was one of the better infielders of the day, he had an event 2nd best with an infield velocity of 86 mph, Dyer has a decent first step on balls, his hands are soft which help him get away with certain plays. Dyer’s 60 Yard Dash time (7.55) was average but his quick instincts in the infield overshadow that, in the future when he does get faster I think he will be able to stay on the left side, especially with the arm strength. Dyer had a smooth transition into BP as he kept repeatedly wearing out the middle of the field with a bunch of line drives. Dyer had a max EV of 98.5 mph with an average EV of 87.1 mph. With a full season of varsity baseball under his belt, I think Dyer can develop into a top player in his class, the maturity will get there and with playing football he will definitely mature physically with time. Dyer is the type of hitter you can see at the top of the lineup or at the bottom to turn it around, he’s not going to pepper balls over the fence, but he’s going to get on base and wear the pitcher out. |

Cole Medina LHP/OF / Patterson High School / 2028Medina came up all the way from Patterson, CA to throw a bullpen in front of the staff, we had got to see Patterson High School once during the end of the year and Medina actually got the throw. Medina had his older brother come to the NorCal ProCase last weekend and performed exceptionally well. Medina stands at 6’3 162.3 lbs and there is a lot more room to add in the frame. The mechanics are very fluid and repeatable, it looks effortless when he’s on the mound. Coming off of a great freshman campaign, Medina threw a lot of innings this year for Patterson High School. The velocity is going to come with Medina, the kid has a great feel for the strikezone and all of his secondaries. His fastball was sitting between 77.5 - 80.4 mph while topping out at 81, with tons of strikes. Medina also mixes in a sinker to go along with the fastball, explains why he gets a lot of groundballs and soft contact. The pitch that I think has a chance to be really good is the curveball, has some late action to it and makes a tough at bat for a left handed hitter. The curveball had a max spin rate of 1973 rpm with a max of 17.9 in of HM. Medina also has a changeup which was sitting between 67.4 - 69.6 mph, with potential to be a third out pitch for him. Medina is going to be a name in the 2028 class that you’ll want to write down, can’t wait to see him this summer on the circuit. |

Nico Busalacchi 1B / RHP / Del Oro High, CA / 2027Busalacchi is coming off a long season with his Del Oro team, I got the chance to see Nico a couple times during the season and he’s one of the more impressive left handed bats in the ‘27 class. Busalacchi stands at 6’0” 216.9 lbs with a grip strength of 136 on both hands. During the defensive part of the workout, Busalacchi displayed good footwork at first base, with an infield velocity of 79 mph, showing he can get the ball across the diamond and to second base. Busalacchi was by far one of the most talented bats of the day, blasting balls all over the field at Franklin High School, which is a very big yard. Busalacchi had a max EV of 104.5 mph, even poking a home run out the opposite way during BP. His average EV was 98.3 mph which was an event best, his max distance was 379ft, with an impressive hard hit rate of 92.3%. For the size of Busalacchi he will surprise you with some speed, he ran a 7.39 60 yard dash with a run speed of 18.2 mph. Lefty first baseman who can swing it are always a hot commodity, Busalacchi is set to have a huge summer, I think once he figures out his bat to ball skills and gets the average up a little, he’s going to be a very dangerous hitter in the next upcoming years. |
