Staff

EMERSON, GA: The summer is here and the State Games of Georgia kicks off our summer season at LakePoint. There is nothing better than opening the summer on memorial day weekend with teams from all over the country. Our scouting staff was out in full force watching games all weeekend long. We will be publishing scout blogs at the end of every tournament. Check out notes and videos on players than made an impression on our scouting staff in the 1st weekend back.

Cash Scarborough, RHP, 2026, Houston Memorial (TX)
Oklahoma State Commit. Cash turned in a dominant performance against a talented Canes National lineup, tossing 6 shutout innings with 11 strikeouts. He flashed quick, clean arm action with the ability to mix all his pitches effectively, keeping hitters off balance. Scarborough showed advanced pitchability, consistently locating to all four quadrants and changing eye levels. An athletic mover down the mound, he repeated his delivery well and maintained tempo throughout the outing. His presence and poise stood out, and he fits the mold of a spark plug player who rises to the occasion in big moments.

Owen Lukac, LHP, 2026, Fishers (IN)
Evansville Commit. Lukac was simply impressive in his relief outing, striking out 6 over 3 innings while allowing just 1 run against a stacked lineup. He works from a deceptive ¾ arm slot with quick arm action and natural sink, making his fastball—sitting 87-89 and touching 90—extremely tough to square up. His slider was a true weapon in this look, generating several ugly swings with late, sweeping break. Lukac does a great job sinking into his back leg and driving down the mound, creating tough angles and maintaining strong direction. He brings energy and confidence out of the bullpen, and his stuff plays well against advanced hitters.

Colt Babic, SS/OF, 2027, Hammond (SC)
Uncommitted. Colt Babic showed off one of the loudest swings in his class, hammering a ball 101.2 mph into the gap. His raw power stands out at an early age, and the swing is already well-sequenced with serious impact potential. Babic pairs his offensive juice with athleticism, clocking a 6.8 in the 60-yard dash, and moves aggressively on the bases. With a strong frame and plenty of physical projection left, he’s a high-upside player who could develop into a true threat at the plate.

John Hucko, OF, 2027, Charlotte Catholic (NC)
Uncommitted. John Hucko, a left-handed hitter, put together a standout day at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a stand-up triple and exit velocities of 94+ on all but one swing, which still registered at 91 mph. He features a smooth yet powerful swing from the left side, showing the ability to drive the ball with intent while maintaining balance and fluidity. Hucko’s hands work exceptionally well through the zone, staying inside the ball with ease and allowing him to handle velocity and offspeed alike. His advanced feel for the barrel and natural strength make him a dangerous presence in the box with clear offensive upside.

Reuben Vasquez, OF/2B, 2026, Strawberry Crest (FL)
Uncommitted. Reuben Vasquez made a statement by launching a no-doubt home run over the boxes in right field, showcasing his raw power. He does a great job staying in his backside and legs throughout the swing, generating lift and leverage with ease. Vasquez consistently gets the barrel extended and drives the ball with authority. The strength in his hands and ability to repeat his swing path give him real power potential moving forward.

Branson Crawford, C/RHP, 2026, North Hall
The #1 catcher in GA for the ‘26 class and Indiana commit would check a ton of boxes across the course of NPI. Opening it up at the plate he would find multiple hard-hit barrels throughout the week. Including on Day 2 where he would unload on a no-doubt 3-run shot to the pull-side at 98 EV/ 359 Ft. Crawford stays compact with good balance and leverage alike as he delivers an explosive barrel through the zone with great use of the entire field. The incoming senior would toe the rubber later on the week during Bracket Play for The Dream as he would churn out a quality outing where his fastball topped 90 with heavy sink and run. The two-way prowess of Crawford is amongst some of the best in the class and it was evident at NPI.

Mason Shelton, C/3B, 2027, Hardin Valley Academy (TN)
Shelton would come through in multiple spots for Exposure to open NPI on the first night. Exuding hitterish actions throughout the LHH would find a couple of barrels with a BB in a 2-for-2 performance. Firing a backside double and a pull-side 3B for a pair of XBHs. Shelton stays well-connected in the box with fluidity and present bat speed through the zone. Feel to manipulate the barrel in-zone stands out with accuracy alike and good use of the entire field. There is strong projection remaining within the lean and athletic 6-foot-1 frame.
